  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) I remember. He had a nice little 8-10 start stretch in which he carried the staff. Even with that, his era was a full run higher than the previous season. I won't even get into his peripheral's. I'm sure you know they were bad. Jon was disturbingly bad last year. Especially when you consider Angel stadium is more of a pitcher's park. Yeah, I agree...I am sort of throwing last year out and chalking it up to him being on a new team, trying to impress his hometown fans, etc... Were he to come back here, I would fully expect him to come back to about a 4.00 ERA or so...
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) Because he's done nothing but regress since 2005. I for one thought that he had turned the corner after that season. I was wrong. He actually pitched very solidly for us after about mid-May in 06'. Kept us in the race into September when the rest of the rotation was just god-awful... I think most of us understand what we're getting from Jon, and in my humble opinion, that is easily worth $8-9 million...
  3. I'm confused...most of us seemed to be fairly happy when Kenny re-signed Jon after 05' to the 3 year/27 million...why would some of you now balk at $8 million per? I'd personally love to take him back at 3/$27 or so...
  4. I don't think he is particularly speaking to the value of Javy Vazquez as much as he is the straight-forwardness and no-nonsense of Kenny in making deals. It was clearly a barb meant for Furcal's agents, not so much a sigh of relief that Javy is some kind of savioir...
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) Or if you live south of the Mason-Dixon, they flip the f*** out down there b/c they just don't know what to do. This is what happened here in Las Vegas when it snowed twice this week...chaos! This kids here had a snow day yesterday and there wasn't even any snow on the ground!
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) Sounds good. I can host a few pre-drinking parties...
  7. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) The White Sox will go to Las Vegas - but will Brian Anderson be able to leave If not, he can crash with me...
  8. QUOTE (rangercal @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) True! (I hope) The person below me is ready for football to end and baseball to start False. I'm still waiting for Kenny to round this squad of rag-tag warriors into a mean, lean, fighting machine! The person below me loves Ari Gold.
  9. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) Link Oh, this is just beautiful....my boys are coming to me....must have been that conversation I had with Ozzie last week...
  10. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/15/world/mi...723&ei=5087 Bush stood up strong against the shoe tossing...
  11. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) False. The person below me wants to know what a ponzi scheme is. False, I already know what it is. A ponzi scheme is basically an investment scheme where the initial investor's are paid with later investor's money to make the scheme look legitimate. The person below me has been to New Orleans and Las Vegas in the same year.
  12. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) True, in a way. I do things with both hands, lean towards left handed though. The person below me doesn't like chinese food. False. Not my favorite, but can't say I don't like it. The person below me has lusted over a friend's mom or dad at one time...
  13. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) False. The person below me uses "That's what she said" at inappropriate times. False. At one time, perhaps. No more. The person below me thinks the person above him is a straight-up pimp hustler.
  14. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) That information has been out there for a couple days. Until we know what the market will be for FA outfielders, particularly Abreu, nothing is going to happen with this deal. I don't see Bobby Abreu signing with the Reds, regardless of whether or not they are interested in him (they need a righty bat, not a lefty bat) at this stage of his career. I would think he is ours for the taking if we do indeed get this Dye deal completed...
  15. QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:16 AM) Cubs apparently very close to getting Peavy per rotoworld: One source close to GM Jim Hendry characterized the Cubs as "very close" to completing a deal for Jake Peavy. Cubs and Orioles sources told the Chicago Sun-Times that those two teams have agreed to a swap of Garrett Olson and Felix Pie, contingent on a Peavy deal. Olson would then go to San Diego. The Sun-Times also believes the Phillies are in the deal, but isn't sure the pieces are finalized there. Dec. 9 - 2:28 am et Source: Chicago Sun-Times I dunno man....I watched Jim Hendry milling around the Bellagio half the night with Lou...didn't look like they were in any serious discussions....of course, this deal has been on the table for weeks now and maybe Hendry was just waiting for the Padres to come to a decision...I do know this...Hendry and Pinella certainly didn't look all that concerned about a possible deal... As for the other goings on...I saw a ton of people: Dusty Baker, Steve Phillips, Ozzie Guillen, Ken Rosenthal, Chuck Garfein, Mike Scoscia, Tommy Lasorda, Jim Hendry, Lou Pinella, Tito Francona, Ron Washington, and I am sure some others I have forgotten... What a fun evening! Unfortunately, the evening was more social for everyone it seemed then about working...although several GM's were nowhere to be found, such as Kenny Williams.
  16. Just met Ozzie...got a picture with him...Kenny was calling him just as I met him...
  17. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) I saw reports that say he didn't get into Vegas until this afternoon. So he and Ozzie, who were scheduled to meet with the media Monday afternoon, pushed it back until Tuesday. There is honestly very little going on here, except perhaps in private rooms...there is a crapload of media personnel just standing around the elecators waiting for something, anything, to happen. I almost want to run up to them all and tell "Sabathia signed with the Angels!" I did see Gammons talking with Dusty Baker earlier...so whatever he said in regards to Dye is probably pretty accurate... Just in the sportsbook watching the football game at the moment...Go Bucs!
  18. About to head down to the Bellagio now....I'll post something from my phone if I hear anything exciting...
  19. Has Hal McCoy reacted to all this denial of what his source is telling him? Has he defended his story or his source at all?
  20. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) Jocketty is denying this now, doesn't sound like anything is close at all. http://hotstove.mlblogs.com/archives/2008/...ailey_rumo.html Well, that, I might have to believe.... Still, there is something to this...
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) Maybe this trade happening is contingent on some other things being done first, hence the denials. It seems like something in that vein. I found the Reds denial of "We haven't talked to the White Sox since we've arrived in Las Vegas" particularly unimpressive....
  22. Why am I having flashbacks to Bill Clinton's response to the Monica Lewinski thing? These denials are sort of in that mold: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman. Ms. Lewinski..."
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 02:49 AM) Personally, I think everyone is overvaluing Escobar right now. I don't know how he bats, but it seems to me that he is the next Omar Vizquel at the very best, and that's how Cesar Izturis was valued at one time as well. There's no way in blue hell I'd deal Jenks for Escobar, and I'd honestly have to be convinced to deal Hardy for Jenks, merely because the Sox are losing a huge (no pun intended) portion of the bullpen in doing so. If the Sox deal Jenks to the Brewers, it'd be Weeks and a pitching prospect. Quite honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Weeks and Villanueva. I agree about Weeks, but after seeing what Javy brought back, I think we'd be getting 2-3 other prospects as well. Weeks' value has fallen greatly due to both performance and injury concerns. I don't think you can discount what Bobby has done the last 3.5 years while Weeks has not lived up to his advance billing. This protential move actually makes a lot more sense to me than many of the others that have been discussed. Perhaps we could take a page from the Reds' book and Brandon Phillips him...
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) I read an article or 3 from NY papers a couple of weeks ago, and Jenks was about option #6 for the Mets. I don't necessarily think it's the idea of Jenks or Dye that the Mets are enamored with, but rather the fact that they can do some one-stop shopping and get both players in one deal. They probably save by doing this, whether it is financially or in terms of other resources (or both).
  25. I agree it wouldn't be the worse thing in the world if he accepted. It would buy us some time before Beckham is ready to come up while providing us with some cost-certainty. I never bought into OC being the player I read he was prior to coming here, but he still is a solid player with some welcomed competitive spunk.
