Carlos Quentin - Nick Swisher - Jermaine Dye
iamshack replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) It is uncanny. And he looks to have that same sort of unreal power, except it looks to be legit, and not pharmaceutical. I just hope he doesnt end up with the same sort of back problems that Canseco ended up with because of his corkscrew swing. And the team obviously realizes it too, as Swish called him Carlos "Consequito" Quentin yesterday... -
Buehrle (0-0) vs. Verlander (0-0)- KEEP IT UP!!

Who thinks Quentin stays in the lineup or who thinks Anderson gets his first start of the year? -
I touched on this a week or two ago, in one of the Crede/Fields threads. I come here because it is the best place to come for intelligent discussion on the White Sox. When I leave my homepage, and start to type a url address, Soxtalk.com is the first that comes up, because I come here more than any other website. That being said...I have raised the issue of just "why people come here?" if they're going to constantly spew negativity. Or just "why do some people even watch the games?" if they constantly hate every move we make or expect the worst to happen. And regarding some posters, and some reasonably significant percentage of posters, I'm still not certain of what the answer is. Perhaps masochism or self-flagellation? I know that I am a poster who is rather optimistic about things, whether that is the direction of the front office, the direction of the organization, or the direction of the team on the field. And while that may be as inaccurate as some of the more negative posters in regard to the White Sox, I feel it is certainly more logical an attitude to have if one is to frequent a site such as Soxtalk. I don't mind opinions, and I am not one to stifle discussion in any matter. But honestly, a "Negative Rant" thread is required where those who wish to criticize and spew negativity can go and vent. Otherwise, all of our threads become infected with negativity, which eventually gets called-out by some of the more positive posters, and everything just becomes sort of a good v. evil debate, rather than a rational, logical, and informative discussion of the topic at hand. I do enjoy the quirky personalities we have here, and I love sarcasm as much as the next guy. But it's time to start cheering for the team we have on the field, whether you agree with it or not. It's fine if you want to *hope* your guy gets in the game or gets called up. But it's really difficult to enjoy a game thread when so many are hoping for certain players to fail so that change will occur more quickly or drastically. These are some of the things I enjoy and dislike about Soxtalk.

Quentin looks like he is trying to hit everything out of here all the sudden...

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) OC won the gold glove at SS last year. Uribe did not. And although it's not totally defensive based...Uribe's arm is what makes him good on Defense, not his actual defense...except for 05. BS. Uribe can pick it with anyone, even if his style is unorthodox. YES AJ!

I like Cabrera taking pitches, but I wish he would be a bit more aggressive at times. He's reminding me of Scottie up there looking perfect pitches right into the mitt. As for Jose, I wonder if he is incapable of throwing over the top exclusively anymore without hurting himself...because it sure seems like everyone else in the world seems to think Jose's downfall is connected to these arm-angles except for our coaching staff...

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Contreras has no business still being a starting pitcher in the AL. He'll be out of the starting rotation soon enough. I'd honestly like to see him just go back to throwing over the top every pitch instead of this multiple arm-slot bs.
-
It's funny how much Hawk HATES this version of Jose. Whether he gives up the runs or not.
-
The sad thing is that wasn't a bad pitch at all by Jose to Pudge....he does need to get over the Cuban thing and get some cajones though.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) It's the 4th f***ing game of the season one of the worst things you can do as a fan is overreact to early season happenings. Soxtalk would be nothing if not for fans who overreact, all the time.
-
I like OC as much as the next guy, but just because he makes plays look harder than Juan did doesn't make them better plays...
-
Thank you very much....unfortunately I didn't put him in my fantasy lineup...damn this "wait and see" approach!
-
QUOTE(Linnwood @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Well here to hoping Contreras fixed whatever was wrong! Yeah, a new wife!
-
QUOTE(scenario @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) Because Quentin is better. Since when is that a reason for him to be in our lineup?
-
QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) No problem. Kind of wish Anderson was playing... As do I.
-
QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) Swish, CF Cabrera, SS Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Dye, RF AJ, C Quentin, LF Crede, 3B Uribe, 2B Thanks!

QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) Thomas cf Polanco 2b Guillen 1b Ordonez rf Cabrera dh Renteria ss Rodriguez c Jones lf Inge 3b There is the Tigers' lineup, but I have no clue about the Sox.. Yeah, I don't want the Tigers stinkin' lineup...
-
Anyone have a lineup for today yet? Trying to set my fantasy lineups...

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) Hmm, do we have scouts in the Dominican Republic or what? If fricken Cincinnati is capable of developing this type of arm there should be no excuse for our lack of results. It'd only be appropriate if DLS turns into a comparable pitcher............for Oakland. Are you capable of any other type of response?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) He took a lot of money from them and didn't perform well at all. They run the "Give the ball to LeBron" offense. LH needs the ball. It was never a good fit...
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) That's just Bobby Cox proving once again that he's smarter than all of us. Yeah, the Braves were strapped for pitchers as their pen has been taxed a bit, and then they had to have an emergency starter because of Hampton injuring himself before his start. Too bad it didn't work out, but it was fun to watch.

Very interesting move in the Braves/Pirates game. Chris Resop came in to pitch in the top of the 10th, pitched to a few batters and got in a bit of a jam. Bobby Cox came on and brought in Royce Ring to pitch to a lefty. Cox kept Resop in to play LF. Ring then struck out the lefty, and Resop came back to the mound to pitch. Resop then gave up another hit and the Pirates took the lead... Extremely interesting move that we AL fans don't get to contemplate much....

Great quote from Ozzie after yesterday's game....I just read it in the Sun-Times: ''Last year after the first game,'' Guillen said, ''you looked around the clubhouse, and it looked like they all owed something to someone.'' Hah....that one made me giggle...
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) Considering how many surgeries he's had, i think it's the former. If that were you though, considering what an absolute waste you've been for both the Rockies and the Braves since 2004 or whatever, wouldn't you try to go out and pitch anyways? Can you imagine him having to tell his coaches that once again, he was injured? They must have had a hard time not laughing...
-
I think they're all sort of lame... I wish they would have stuck with the South-Side Board of Tourism thing, but I guess they got a new marketing agency this year, per the usual course of action...
