  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) Mike Hampton pulled from his start with an injury, again. Do I even need to provide a link? Seriously? To a Hampton injury? Just find one. Seriously, I was just watching the Braves/Pirates game and they showed him straining his pectoral muscle while warming up....he's seriously made of glass or is a total wuss.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Yes, the 21 year old is still at AAA. He may end up being the nastiest of them all if he pans out. I dunno, man. His stock has been dropping like an anvil.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:59 AM) I said in the preseason that the Tigers are boom or bust, and I'm not about to back away from that right now. Either that team is going to explode and put up absolutely monstrous numbers and take the division on the back of their offense, or they'll be mediocre and finish in 3rd-ish place with about 84-85 wins. It's interesting to watch, but the Tigers have been sort of shadowing what the White Sox have done the past few years...I predicted in about June of last season that the Tigers would collapse in the second half just as the 06' White Sox did. Could they possibly follow the White Sox again and be terrible this season?
  4. I'm going to withhold judgement regarding Danks for a while. He looked pretty impressive last year at this time. He needs to prove he can sustain it throughout the season.
  5. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) Great point, completely forgot about that. The choice would have to be Thome hands down unless he gets injured this year. Thome has never had an OPS under .900 when he plays over 100 games. That's 12 seasons with an OPS over .900, and 5 of those were over 1.000. Dye has only 2 seasons with 100 games and an OPS over .900 (2000 and 2006). If he gets injured, the option likely won't trigger and so you would either pick it up or buy him out for $3 million...
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) Remember, there are rumors of a hand shake deal between KW and Philly that would have the Phillies kicking in some cash (around half I believe) for Thome's option year which would mean you're getting Jim Thome, who put up a .973 OPS last year on a one year deal worth under $10M. That seems like it would be against some sort of transaction rules, but assuming that is the case, what do we do with Dye?
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) A lineup with Dye at DH and a combination of our young outfielders in the OF would be better than Thome at DH and Dye in RF, I think. Our defense would be drastically improved, and we'd probably take a step back offensively in the start, but it would come along as the year went on for the young guys. Thome's getting up there in the years, and with his powerful swing, I can't imagine him being able to stay healthy for that much longer. Well, people have been saying that about Thome for about 3 years now. Personally, I'd rather try and get Dye waive his NTC and keep Thome, but trading either one would be quite a difficult task...
  8. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Basically. Saying Dye should be in LF is one thing, saying we should take a .800-.900 OPS player out of the middle of our lineup is quite another. Especially considering that despite his defensive shortcomings, Jermaine has looked awfully good at the plate this series. The Ranger was just speaking to this a few minutes ago, saying he envisions Dye taking over at DH next season. Which begs the question, would we rather have Dye at DH for $11 million, or Thome at DH for $13 million, and what will we do with the other one? Keep in mind Thome's option automatically triggers if Thome reaches 600 PA's this year, or 1,100 PA's between 07' and 08'. I believe Thome had 536 PA's last season, so he would need 564 this season to reach 1,100.
  9. Mr. Super Legkick coming in...let's make him throw a strike this time...
  10. Would have rather let Swish run, and sub Anderson in at Center in the bottom of the 8th, moving Swish to Right.
  11. Oh Joe, why oh why are you allowed to be on this team?
  12. Seriously, sometimes I wonder why some of you watch the games...
  13. JD looks so awful on balls hit over his head.
  14. We are the only team that cannot sac bunt. Every time we do that they gun our lead runner down at third. Jesus, we suck.
  15. Good job, JD. How about we cheer for the guys that are playing for now, since we have no control over what the organization chooses to do regarding roster management at this point?
  16. Please, enough of the Fields/Crede bulls***. We've beating the ever-living s*** out of that poor horse already.
  17. Why does everyone single out Crede? I seem to remember him getting a big hit on Monday and driving in one of our two runs yesterday night. It's not like anyone else other than AJ is hitting anything since Monday...
  18. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) CLE is hitting the ball hard. It's just a matter of time. Sox need to put something on the board. Not sure I agree with that. We seem to be hitting the ball harder than they are...
  19. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) Huh? White Sox v. Tigers are ESPN's Sunday Night Game of the Week.
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Actually, at least when I was taking AmIn classes in undergrad, after much back and forth, the generally accepted terminology became American Indians. Not because it was correct, but, at least among anthro folks and AmerInd tribal leaders themselves, they decided it was the least offensive. Ben Nighthorse-Campbell led a campaign of sorts to solidify that. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled game thread. I do actually learn something new every day..."American Indians."
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) OK I'm tired of deleting posts, so... please stay on game topic and avoid snide or offensive references to Indians. Try to keep focused on THE Indians. I believe they're called "Native Americans."
  22. James Loney absolutely destroyed Ray Durham last night, almost injuring him, and no interference was called. I understand what the people saying OCab's actions were blatantly interference in the fact that they were so obvious. But the way the rule is written (and the purpose of the rule), and the way it is interpreted and called simply do not mesh.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 11:45 PM) I'm not saying close should be good enough. I personally get pissed when umpires give the leeway at 2B. What I'm saying is if you have no problem with it at second, you should have no problem with it at any other base. Well, it's more of an acceptance that there is nothing you can do about it if that's how they are going to call it. But when they begin calling plays like that at other bases, and you are not accustomed to it, it is extremely frustrating.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) There's been a lot of complaining everywhere about the non call yesterday. Anyone who has ever played above little league has had it beaten into their heads what their job is going into second on a potential DP ball. If you want to go by the rule book, just about every game there could be an interference call or 2, but the runner does have a right to slide or dive into the base. Cabrera grabbed the guy. That's going to get called every time. On the DPs, I've been in a couple of game threads were people were pretty pissed when it was blatantly obvious there was a phantom force out. If everyone just accepts that close is good enough, the play at first with AJ shouldn't have raised anyone's ire, because that was close, and the play with Crede shouldn't have pissed anyone off because it was close to a force, in fact, the umpire initially appeared to indicate Crede was out by a force out, and he did come within inches of tagging him. I think second base is the force play that the most leeway is given on a regular basis. But saying that because those other plays were force-out situations, and thus, close is good enough, is ridiculous.
  25. Watching Jon Garland pitch against the Twins tonight, and he's got the sinker working big time. I think he's got 7 or 8 groundball outs out of the 9 he has recorded thus far....sort of sad seeing him making that familiar slow walk off the field after each inning.
