  1. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) I'm afraid to say I like this blog because the writer there will make a post that says, "White People Love This Blog Because They Love Making Fun of Themselves. That's Why They Love Black Comedians Who Make Fun of White People." Hah, exactly! "And fortunately, there is a way to personally gain from this desire to be above being offended and laugh at other people laughing at them...." Honestly, I love the natural medicines one the most I think...this is excerpted from there: http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/...tural-medicine/ Because of a rather shady history, white people do not trust the pharmaceutical industry. Using pretty sound logic, they believe that the drug companies have no motivation to find real cures for things like AIDS since the real profit are in drugs like Viagra and Xanax. Using their powers of deduction, white people have determined that herbal remedies are unilaterally better than anything produced by a drug company. Since white people can’t really blame any race for their problems, they need to blame corporations. In this case, the reason that they are sick or fat or without energy is because the drug companies are in a conspiracy to keep them addicted to placebos. This helps them shed accountability, and it lets them feel like they are helping the environment by rejecting the polluting, greedy, awful drug companies and taking natural, organic medicine from the earth. But perhaps it goes deeper. Hundreds of years ago, another group of people believed firmly in natural medicine and it’s ability to cure disease. Then white people gave them blankets with small pox and they all died. So perhaps turning to natural medicine also helps white people feel better about killing natives.
  2. Honestly, once in a while I'll start going and a rogue stream will break away off to the side from the main stream. The other week I was in the bathroom in a bar, and I was at a urinal, and there was a guy dropping a deuce in a stall right next to me, and I literally pissed right on his shoe.... I've never reeled it back in almost in midstream like I did that time... I don't know if he didn't know it happened or if he just didn't know who did it to him.
  3. Interestingly, Ellis makes $5 million this season. Perhaps the only way we could take on that additional $ is if someone claims Uribe?
  4. Surprisingly, Uribe led the AL in defensive win shares (at short) and was second in all of baseball...
  5. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) Could it be that the team just put him on waivers to gauge other teams interest? And that we all got excited over nothing because in 3 days the Sox will revoke the waivers and he'll still be on the roster? I would hope we already know what the interest is. This isn't a player that the public would react negatively to if mentioned in trade rumors. This is a guy who has lost his position, has been the source of constant criticism both by the fanbase as well as the organization, and who's play has deteriorated both offensively and defensively. I don't mean to sound like a dead horse here, but it seems as if the only logical explanation is that they are hoping someone will claim him and thus have to pay his entire salary, as opposed to the team eating a portion of it as part of a potential trade. Who knows though. Seems everyone is fairly baffled by this.
  6. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) I wouldn't be surprised to see Ozuna at second on opening day. He's 12 for 30 (.400) lifetime against CC with 4 doubles. Good call, Patrick.
  7. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) I don't think anyone is denying that Fields isn't perfect, hes far from it. Obviously, everyone has their flaws (e.g. A-Rod in the playoffs), but the general theory here is that this team is only going to get better if Fields is playing. We need to give our young guys a chance, and theres less of a risk with Fields than Crede. His back is a mess, and he's extremely inconsistent at the plate. In my opinion, we need to end the Crede era and let the Fields era begin. It's truly what is best for this team, in my opinion. I don't think this is the case anymore as a result of the surgery he had last season.
  8. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:18 PM) Is there any theory on why this happened now? Is it because there are about 10 days until the season starts and they wanted to clear this up before opening day? My guess is that they want to move him but other teams are asking them to eat more salary than they wish to.
  9. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) If they don't think he'll be claimed, what's the reason for putting him up? Hoping he gets claimed? Yep.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) If this means Ramirez is going to get a lot of time at 2B, why is he in CF today? This is all very weird. Uribe is a very popular guy on the team. It could have some sort of effect on the team if they think he got screwed. Yeah, I agree. Something doesn't smell right. Maybe they DON'T think he will be claimed? I have no idea...
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) Bruce is as accurate as carpet bombing. Well, he usually can figure out technical details such as this, rather than trade "rumors."
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) Taking any information that any cub fan posts on any board is asking for trouble. They think that baseball was a game that originated in a large outdoor stinky bar, and that tubs are for urination. They don't know the rules, and barely are sober enough to know who is on first. Well, Levine supposedly stated this. He didn't just make it up.
  13. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) Given the name, I figured that. Just joking around (hence the smiley). So now it's 48 Hour waivers. This just keeps getting more confusing.
  14. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) From the Orioles board (member "Harry Carry"), can anyone confirm? Do we avoid Levine so completely that O's fans hear him before us? The Cubs fans have been squatting on Orioleshangout.com while the two teams have been rumored to be involved with the Roberts trade. That's a Cubs fan on an O's board posting.
  15. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) No, I beleive if the Sox release him, he gets the $4.5M plus anything he agrees to with another team. MLB contracts are guaranteed. The thing is, is that he becomes a free agent after the 72 hours and if there are 3 or 4 teams that want him they will drive up his price thus KW is forcing them to take him and his full salary before another team can claim him. Depending on the waiver order this could really benefit a team..... Incorrect. There is no way he can make any different amount than what his contract is for- $4.5 million. The only thing that can change is who is paying that $4.5 million. If he is claimed on waivers or a trade is worked out within the next 72 hours, the other team pays the $4.5 million. If not, he becomes a FA. Any team he signs with will pay him the league minimum, which is $390k. That amount is then subtracted from the $4.5 million we pay him, which leaves $4,110,000.
  16. Fathom is correct. They have 72 hours to trade him or for another team to claim him. If they do so, that team will pay his entire salary. If no one claims him, Juan will become a FA and sign elsewhere for the league minimum. That amount $390k, will then be subtracted from the amount the White Sox are paying him, so they would pay him $4,110,000 rather than $4,500,000.
  17. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) I'm just saying, it's far from a certainty. How would the Sox know that he'd be picked up, anyway? If there was interest in him, he would have been traded. The Sox may be betting that he'll be claimed, I'm not sure. But even then, I don't have to think they're right. Not trying to make you think they're right. But it absolutely boggles my mind that people think they were the first to consider other options, without knowing what actually happened, and yet the Sox brass did not. Come on guys, have a little faith in our front office.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) Absolutely correct, I don't think everyone understands what this particular waiver situation is. You don't think he TRIED to do that? I don't think everyone understands that this s*** isn't only apparent to them.
  19. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) If they are certain someone will pick him up why not trade him for at least a PTBNL. They could also include some cash. This move is just odd. Because teams either wanted us to eat some of the $, or they wouldn't give up anyone we wanted. This way, if a team really wants him, they risk losing out on him if they don't claim him.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) I highly doubt someone claims him in 72 hours. Also, after thinking about this more, there's no way this is a prelude to a Roberts trade. If it was, we wouldn't have released Uribe. We would have just included him in the trade. I thought it was 10 days? Secondly, the Orioles may have been trying to get us to eat $ or take back Payton in exchange. Regardless of Roberts, this may be a way to get the O's to pick up the entire contract.
  21. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) I'm really not sure about that, whatever Orioles fans say. If you look at what I posted when we first got word of this, you will see I had the same opinion then. They wouldn't have DFA'd him if they didn't think someone will pick him up.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) How do you know that 4.5 million couldn't have been used elsewhere to upgrade this team? Well, it certainly was not a good situation to be in, but I agree with the other poster who pointed out that with no ss, we might have had to pony up more for Cabrera. Either way, it doesn't look like the decision to resign Uribe will cost us anything. Someone will pick him up on waivers.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) I have been advocating Fields as a centerpiece for a Roberts deal. Even if Crede walks at the end of the year, you still have Ramirez who could probably play 3rd if you re-sign Cabrera. With Roberts leading off, the Sox line-up becomes as good as its ever been. Better.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) Ubaldo Jiminez threw the ball too. Yeah, I replied to that in the other thread....OUCH!
  25. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) I think it was more of the forearm. He looked moderately hurt, went to first, stayed there for a pitch or two, and went to the dugout. Ahh, no fun.
