  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) People obsess about first round picks, but teams need good overall drafts. You can miss on the first round if you hit in the later rounds. First round picks used to be more important because the contracts used to be huge. Not that way anymore. Sure, but you can either trade your high pick for more picks, or keep it and have better late round picks as well. Being "better" is of zero value going forward. Winning close games against bad teams does nothing.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) Um, no. I do not think longterm we are better off if our last two draft classes are irredeemable just so that we have a chance at 1 dynamic player. Beating bad teams is the first step to beating good teams. We just beat a team with 1/3 of our offensive line missing, a hobbled QB, 3 of our top receivers out, our starting safety, our starting ILB and starting rookies all over the place. That is what getting better looks like. I'm not saying you don't play them to see what they can offer, but winning close games is moronic at this point. They're not making the playoffs. They have no chance of being good this year, so why hurt your draft position? It makes no sense. Frankly they need to start selling pieces for whatever draft picks they can get. This team needs a rebuild, not a minor repair job.
  3. OK guys, I appreciate the enthusiasm, but come on. They're not beating good teams. And they're doing so on quite a bit of luck. Yes, Cutler made some great throws, but those are throws that connect 1 out of 10 times. And he got two of them in close succession. And they were two, late, come from behind victories. Tanking and getting the best draft pick possible is still the play here. Going 8-8 and getting the 15th pick is not good long term.

I think last night I hit my limit with zombie shows. 1.5 hours of The Walking Dead and it was pretty boring.
  5. Dammit. I don't want to be happy about that but I am.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Illinois really needs points on the first drive of the second half. The defense has played well overall but they are going to run out of gas if the offense doesn't start moving the ball. Got 3 at least.
  7. Illinois playing like a Big Ten team. It's been a while.
  8. One thing that's way undereported in those figures is the number of cases that remain unsolved. It used to be 60-70% of cases were cleared. Now it's like 25-30%. And falling. http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20130104/ch...han-two-decades
  9. Hail, Ceaser! looks amazing.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 01:25 PM) I didn't say anythign about racism, just the f*** YOU part of it. If you want civility, at some point you have to display it yourself. That headline is uncalled for. He's a writer for Deadspin that I've been reading for years. It's in the same voice as most of his stuff. I didn't really think twice about it really, whether it was in GQ or not.
  11. eh, (1) why does he deserve some feigned level of respect? (2) how is it racist? Let's not stoop to the level of our PC fear-mongers.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 09:24 AM) Then you should ask Illinois' governor, senators or reps why they're not expressing condolences to the victims in Chicago like McCain already in AZ. What's that have to do with you starting a new thread over a seemingly "regular" murder crime in hopes of tying it into the media frenzy/hysteria over "mass shootings."

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) Ugh. Everybody says that. I just don't see it. She's decent looking but if she wasn't famous or didn't look good in comparison to the other MMA fighters, I don't think anyone would give her a second glance. Agreed. Flat chested and too muscular.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 08:31 AM) If it was a school/university-related shooting, sure...why not? Or if the Chicago shooting was a copycat. But why did you feel it necessary to post this story in a new thread? It's a shooter on a campus with one dead and three wounded. No other details provided, but it sure sounds like a premeditated murder crime, which happens all over this country on a daily basis. There are awful people in this world who do awful things. Everyone knows that.
  15. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...1008-story.html One person dead in Chicago. 6 others wounded. Can we make a new thread each morning for those people too? Or do they matter less?
  16. Illinois bball doomed from the start. JCL may or may not be back for game 1. Black is out 4-6 weeks with a meniscus tear. Tate has a concussion.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) Hook is still fun to watch with the kids. It isnt a oscar winner, but I enjoyed the "What happened after peter pan grew up" take on the story, and I thought Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman and Bob Hoskins all nailed their roles. When my kids watch Jake and the Neverland Pirates, i still think of Bob Hoskins as Smee I do the same. Really anything Peter Pan related I refer to Hook. I watched that way more than the Disney Peter Pan movie as a kid.
  18. The trailers were bad, no surprise the movie is too: http://mashable.com/2015/10/07/pan-review-...nk#yrVVm6nfcPqc
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) He didn't though. “Regardless of how senseless it may (sound), in one breath I’m hearing that if Kevin Durant doesn’t stay in Oklahoma City, L.A. is his primary objective and landing spot as opposed to South Beach or even his home of Washington, D.C.,” Smith said. That's all he said. Stephen a smith has been covering the nba for ages. I'm sure someone probably did tell him that, because the whole nba is talking about it. He didn't say it came from kd's camp even. There's plenty of whispers about where kd will land around the league and has been for years. This wasn't even a bad one, as it infers he probably stays in okc If all you're doing is "reporting" rumor, you're not better than any regular joe who reads/listens to random people talk about basketball. "I'm hearing Rose is going to return early!" ESPN has a problem with this reporting stuff. Broussard and SAS are notorious for throwing stuff against the wall, hoping it will stick. I guess if you're right 1 out of 10 times, you can always point to that one time you're right, but at some point you lose credibility and people will tune out. Sadly, there's a decent size chunk of this country that finds SAS and Bayless entertaining enough to watch on a daily basis. I don't know who these people are or what sort of IQ they have, but they clearly need help/need to get a life.
  20. Said some crap about KD and made some dumb, threatening "do not come after me. You don't want to do that" statement. If KD wanted to end this, cut any interviews with ESPN. Or pull a Marshawn Lynch when you're forced to do the interviews. That'd hurt SAS more than anything else.
  21. If they're in the top 5 they should trade to get more picks.
  22. Boo. They should have lost.
  23. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Explain to me how these people function in today's society then. They can't work without a ss card and an ID, you need tp provide that with your job application and the I9 form. They can't get government benefits if they don't work since the government has no clue who they are. They can't cash checks without an ID, even at a currency exchange. You can with a govt that doesn't enforce laws.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) What's the voter fraud rate in states like Washington and Oregon where everything is vote by mail? Voter id laws are ostensibly a solution to an imaginary problem. In practice, they're a means of disenfranchising generally poorer and minority citizens ie people who don't vote Republican. It's to combat the millions of illegals democrats let into the country without enforcing the law because they don't vote republican. Also I still think it's hilarious how sacrosanct voting rights are to you guys but other constitutional rights are just outdated ideas that should be repealed/made worthless. It's a frigging ID. It's not making people walk 100 miles to vote. Hell the fact that voting take place on a business day is more of an inhibitor to voting than getting an ID.
