  1. I was also looking at the Nest Cams. I want one for the house and another for a baby monitor. But I was upset to learn there's a pretty massive 2-2.5 second delay in the video feed.
  2. Anyone use a Nest? I have a cheap, $20 programmable Honeywell, but my wife just found that ComEd/Nicor has a $120 rebate if you buy a Nest. New ones are like $250. My wife likes the appeal (i.e. look and fancy functionality). Anyone with reviews? I'm not sure how much cost savings i'll get since we already have the house scheduled to increase/decrease temperature depending on if we're home and if we're asleep. The Nest seems to be a LITTLE more fluid than a strict schedule, but really other than the ability to change the temp on your phone, what's the appeal? Anything else?
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) Eh, can't help it. In preseason the offense looks not very good (i.e. not built for being a heavy 3pt team since we...don't have 3 pt shooters) on offense, and really bad on defense. Playing the corpse of Hinrich is a pretty big indicator of the limit of this team without Rose. And unfortunately I hate every combination of our bigs. I bet Taj is dealt so Portis gets some playing time but that's not going to solve the awkardness of every combo with Noah, who looks so terrible offensively. And sadly, McDermott seems like a gigantic bust.
  4. And people still think it's a good idea to let the govt handle our entire healthcare system. http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/20/politics/vet...tals/index.html
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) Horrible and at-times even bigoted writing and characters. Awful special effects - impressive in ability but totally missing the mark in impact. Irritating lead actors, especially both of the Anakins. And... Jar Jar. Casting decisions have been pretty bad too. Both Anakins. Holy crap talk about a swing and a miss.
  6. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) Long article, but pretty spot on. http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/what-if-t...-too-1737539377 Yeah I read that. I agree with the vast majority of what he says, although not to the same degree. The Darth Vader being a total scary bad ass at first and then transitioning to a 2nd in command puss never made sense to me, but I figured, you know, the Force from the emperor or whatever. Has anyone re-watched the movies in that order mentioned in the comments? IV, V, I (or skip it), II, III, VI. I wonder if that helps.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Re-read your original post. You didn't ask a single question. asshat. It was implied that I was asking for some kind of comment in response, but fine, I didn't ask a question. I also wasn't like "oh boy you guys are such nerds!! Dumb dumb dumb!"
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) People who don't like Star Wars or have never seen any of them, love to tell you about it. I don't like this, so why do you like this! Hey asshat, i'm not hating. I'm asking questions.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) It is only one of the most iconic and influential movies series' every created. NBD. Heck my favorite music of all time is The Beatles. They broke up three years before I was born, but that doesn't mean I can't still appreciate what they meant to music and to everyone they influenced after them. I mean I get that from a technical standpoint, but it's not like the writing was particularly good, even in the originals.
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Whoa whoa whoa, YOU? Hating on something that's incredibly popular? I would have NEVER seen this coming. Not hating, just saying I don't understand it. It's not like a Hunger Games love or something. It's a decades long fascination. Anything Star Wars people will go out of their minds for it (see: the amount of excitement over a 2 min trailer debuting during a MNF game). It's very unique in that way.
  11. I'm curious, how old are you guys? When did you first get into the Star Wars world?
  12. The love of Star Wars boggles my mind. If you're 40-60 years old and saw the originals in the 70's and 80's, ok, I can get the fan boy stuff. Anyone born post-1980ish? I just don't get it. The originals were fun, but not earth shattering for that generation. The most recent movies were not just a let down, they were terrible. I mean, I get the excitement over someone new handling the movie and making a modern version (like Star Trek, the new ones were both very good IMO), but the pre-order, the Disney love (went there this summer and it's all over), the non-stop Twitter mentions from a million blogs. It's a complete and utter mystery to me.
  13. Real good read on Jimmy Butler: http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine...5/Jimmy-Butler/
  14. I'm confused, are these all on the same team? Or do you just get to pick one and one only?
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) Hypothetical elimination from a FB thread. Four Hall of Fame or future HOF guys that you can build your team with, but you can only take three of the four. Who do you leave off and what order would you take them? Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant Lebron James Magic Johnson I'd leave off Magic probably. He's the "worst" scoring threat in the bunch. Jordan/Lebron/Kobe.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) weird. It's interesting but I'd want someone more reliable to weigh in. You read articles like that and realize, heyyy this is only a hop skip and a jump from the conspiracy articles that all mass murders are just actors to allow the new world order to take over. That's sort of the anti-Serial argument to begin with, right? Looking back at just about any event with the benefit of hindsight allows you to create doubt where none existed in the 1st place, and/or if it did, in context, wasn't as big of a deal as it now seems.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Colts play right there worst, I have ever seen 5 guys on 2. WTF My only guess is that it was an attempt to get the pats to waste a timeout and the center snapped the ball when he wasnt suposed to.
  18. Why on earth kick the field goal there?
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) The ol Kansas City special huh? Greg, stop caring what other drivers think. No one is gonna pull a gun on you or anything so who cares? If they are mad that you're following the rules of the road, that's on them. DO YOU LIVE IN AMERICA??? HAVE YOU BEEN READING THE NEWS?!
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 10:17 AM) i am eyeing a wifi extender on yugster.com for my house. anyone have any comments good or bad? is it worth the 16 bucks? https://www.yugster.com/deals/68430-high-sp...tender-repeater I have this one ($3 more): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E98O7G...DHRT7HKM524FWMS Works pretty well. Sends out my wifi signal to the other side of my house and backyard/patio area. Easy set up too.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) Even if it's what you first said, yeah, that can lead to pretty terrible results. Plus, every job that a prisoner is doing is a job that won't go to a regular person. So long as you're getting some kind of benefit as the criminal, e.g., reduction in jail time, I couldn't care less if they're exploited. They're criminals and they're being provided a benefit they shouldn't ordinarily get. And I don't think something like city clean-up is a job that exists, or if it does, it's on an incredibly small scale. Send some prisoners from Cook County out to some of the s***ty areas of the city with abandoned lots and have them pick up garbage for a few hours. 1) they're not stuck in jail causing problems, 2) they're doing something a little positive for the city. Win-win all around. edit: and are you saying they should be paid minimum wage?
  22. Too old.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Huckabee agrees poor people should be sold into slavery for stealing. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/10/...ckabee-slavery/ Not defending what he's saying, but if he's limiting it to what we have now - making inmates perform low level tasks/labor....why is that a bad thing? Say you robbed someone and get a year in jail. You can't pay any penalty or fee because you have no money, but you can sit in jail for a year, or do some kind of state construction work/clean-up. Maybe something like city landscaping or beautifying. Would that really be awful? I think that would be a better system for both the state and the criminal. edit: eh, ok i reread that and nevermind. the host literally is saying lets follow the verse in Exodus and Huckabee agreed. Disregard.
