QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 24, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) He's actually shattering his career high in 2PT FG% by a good margin. He just need to keep building his confidence and attack the basket. Let the three point shot compliment his game instead of using it as his bread and butter. Really? That's surprising. I've seen so many shots miss the rim and hit backboard. Maybe that ugly stretch of 3's he was taking last week clouded my memory.

His shot has been so terrible at times this year, but taking over the last two 4th quarters, against decent competition.... very excite! The Bulls in general, finally healthy, are playing well. The win against Memphis was great too. Great stretch for them. I like Thibs' rotation of big guys late in games too with Noah-Taj defense, Noah-Niko stretch offense, Noah-Gasol pick and pop offense, Taj-Niko, run and gun while the starters rest.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 02:22 AM) Did anyone finish The Affair? I did. Pretty solid season I thought. Some boring parts, some exciting parts. Clearly the last 5 minutes sets the show up as a murder mystery going forward rather than a character study of an affair. How about Marco Polo on Netflix? Anyone watching that? I caught the first episode last night. Not great, but watchable. Similar to a lot of other historical epic series (Spartacus, Black Sails, etc.) Battles + boobs + political maneuvering.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) That's not what happened though. Trestman benched him to show that the system still works and Cutler is the problem. If Emery wanted to sit Cutler for 2 weeks, they would have made up an injury. It was a Trestman decision. Benching the highest paid player in the league is going to need the OK from the GM and someone in ownership. No chance Trestman went rogue on that decision.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) Totally disagree. Gyp Rosetti was amazing. He was, and it was, but it became an easy plot point. The show has many moving parts with a lot of different characters, and that season you had the one main bad guy that needed to be dealt with.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) I think I was one of the few people who took a more detailed prove it stance on Emery, largely because I wasn't sold on his draft picks along with how bad we have screwed up the LB position. I have probably been the most anti Bostic / Greene guys out there, than you add Shea to the mix (and really that whole first draft under his watch) and really you have quite a few places where he has some egg on his face. I will say this past draft was his best draft and looks like it can be an impactful one for seasons to come. I really love the young DT's we drafted and Carey looks like a solid pick as well. Punter is growing and Fuller has struggled through the rookie wall but upside is still there. Shea has been a disaster. I think Bostic less so. He isn't going to work, but he did show a lot of potential early. Chalk that up to "just didn't develop as we thought." I'd have to look and see what other LB's were picked around him and how they're doing. At least he was drafting the right need.

Let's bring this back to the NFL thread: QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) Yeah, I'm not following the logic. I suppose you could say, he realized our oline stunk and our defense stunk and tried to make changes but you and I could have realized that too. Doesn't make us that good. Fact of the matter the moves that have been made, largely haven't panned out. I guess to really make a decision I'd need to know what has been going through Emery's mind during this season and be a fly into what he did, how he's responded, conversations he's had with the coaches, how involved he really was with the coaching staff, etc. And even than I still think the write answer is to start over because this has turned into such a historical failure. This is literally the worse Bears season of my life. And it isn't like they have been dominant for the majority of my life. This is sort of my issue - nearly every move was met with "yeah, I like it!" Some people criticized his out of the box hire with Trestman, but none of the REAL criticism showed up until about week 5 of this year. Last year he was a genius. No one criticized the move to get rid of Peppers and sign Allen. We all knew Allen wasn't going to lead the league in sacks, but his no-show is an abnormality. His pick of a CB over a safety is just preference, it's not some terrible decision. Emery deserves to be fired because he's ultimately responsible for this team, a team that under performed, a team led by a guy that shouldn't be a coach in this league. I think the majority of his decisions were sound and made sense, they just didn't work out as planned. edit: he should also be fired for not stepping in to control the situation as it spiraled out of control too. That's a huge failing on his part.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) So you think he evaluates personnel and management well, but in the end he still makes the wrong decision? Yet, he has done a good job? I'm saying he has negotiated well and used his assets wisely (e.g., getting Marshall for a 3rd round pick, waiting on the Forte deal and getting a very reasonable deal for the best all around back in football, etc.). He plays the mechanics of the GM game well, which is why giving up so much negotiation leverage just to prove a point to a QB suggests a deal has already been made. It's possible he's making a stupid move, but I don't see the track record for that.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) I just couldn't get through Boardwalk . That was it for me. I was bored most of the time until some action or murder happened. I was there with you, but really the show moved past it and it was just as good. Season 3 was probably the worst (but still good) only because it introduced a cartoon villian, but the last 2 were really good, and the effects of that decision were felt through the end of the series. I'm doing a rewatch on The Wire. It's been about 7-8 years. The storytelling is so solid and tight in the first 3-4 episodes, moreso than I remember.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) You are looking for rational thought. True. But in terms of management of the personnel and making moves, I think Emery has done a good job. He's just missed (horribly) on which guys to get.

Barnwell made a good point about this benching - doesn't it sort of suggest a deal is already in place to move him? Otherwise why give up your negotiating position so soon? If no deal is in place, the Bears have let it be known that they now HAVE to get rid of him. They've lost a lot of bargaining power.

Serial Podcast
I think the producer's summary of how unlucky Adnan would be to truly be innocent basically sums up my feelings on the case. While the parts aren't all there, there's enough circumstantial evidence. Things fit together. The cell phone records are very persuasive. I would most likely convict, but I wouldn't have been upset if he wasn't. I wish there was more Adnan. I wish she would have played his answers to the tough questions. I get that she probably didn't want to make it about whether people believe him or not based on his answers 15 years later, but it really bothers me that she doesn't keep nailing him with tough questions. I feel like she's always giving him layups and then is completely satisfied when he comes up with a plausible answer. In the end it was a good series. Glad I listened. I'll tune into season 2. I hope they eventually do another "here's some new information" episode on this case in a few months. If she's getting calls from people as late as this week because of the popularity of the podcast, she's going to get more as the weeks go by. I'd also like an update on those DNA tests, although I think the only thing surprising at this point would be if there was a match with Adnan, Jay or that now-dead murderer.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) I have a theory that Trestman is doing this to show everyone that Cutler is the issue. The team played well with McCown last year, and if they can play well (but hopefully not win) their last 2 games, Tresman can say "see, it's him, not me." These two tweets are telling: @MikeSilver What I just said on @nflnetwork : Bears offensive players believe Clausen will 'light it up,' simply because he'll run offense as prescribed @MikeSilver I'm told Trestman felt he could no longer play Cutler 'simply to justify a contract' when his performance was so poor... @MikeSilver Also: Cutler has been looking great in practice but 'seeing ghosts' once he steps over the white lines... @MikeSilver I'm told it was a 'coaching decision' to bench Cutler for Clausen--meaning Trestman, not Emery, made this call. Silver later said he had 15 sources on this. 15!!! What does that say about the feelings for Cutler within the organization?? The Bears may have moved to #2 on the list of most dysfunctional NFL franchises behind Washington. What a s*** show.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 05:12 PM) Billions of dollars worth of stolen credit cards is not enough. Realistically a lot of those data breaches are worthless. If you're some Russian terrorist with SS numbers and names there's not a LOT you can get away with before you're cut off. It's not like you're taking out a loan with that information. Most CC companies these days are getting smarter about auto-fraud protection too. Yes, there might be money there, but something more like the CyrptoLocker virus, with an actual income stream, is more lucrative than stealing info. And now, stealing embarrassing information just got a big reaction and cost a studio tens of millions.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) I wouldn't exactly compare appeasing Hitler to not distributing a movie but this does seem pretty silly. When Hitler took over the Rhineland it wasn't a big deal, no need to react. All that did was embolden him to keep going. That's what the movie theaters/Sony are doing here. They just gave these guys more of a reason to hack US companies.

In fairness to Sony, they basically had to. The top 4 movie chains were refusing to show it. Still, f*** Hollywood. This is a really bad precedent set here. Agree with Rob Lowe: edit: I also agree with Newt Gingrich - Sony should release the movie for free on the internet.
