Sounds like they were a few dumb turnovers away from being up 12-15 instead of 6.

If Illinois doesn't win this game, then they have zero reason to be talked about as a tourney team the rest of the season. I get it's a Big Ten road game, Michigan just got Harbaugh, blah blah, but Michigan is just not a good basketball team. Illinois has more talent and has played better this year. They should win this game and if not it'll be up there with Oregon as a hugely disappointing loss.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) When have they looked good? Every single game except one half vs Lou and one half vs UNC. They have the seventh best offense in the country and have been destroying teams. So the only two games against actual competition. edit: and i'll admit I didn't watch all of the Louisville game, but for the part I watched they looked totally overwhelmed.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Yes if you reset the rankings every week based on the half they just played that's true. When have they looked good? At any point this season? I get it's early and conference play just started, but OSU being ranked is based on history, nothing they've shown this year.

OSU should not be ranked. Not a good bball team right now.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) The point is that there was one more reason to go with the obvious choice in that situation, Arians. Must not have been a good interviewer. #bearsinterviewprocessisembarassing. It would be awesome to get another NFL team in town. Force the Bears to actually run the organization competently or face a huge loss.

Another under the radar stat: top 5 in the east has .600 winning pct against the top 5 of the west. I think the greatness of the west is a bit overstated.

Gentrification
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) It's still their community and where they live and who they know, and now they're just being pushed somewhere else that's probably just as bad if not worse than their previous neighborhood. Like bmags said, there are ways of doing gentrification that don't result in displacing most of the existing residences and replacing them with a bunch of yuppies, but that's usually how it goes. But for most gentrification, it's not like "someone" is deciding it. It's a market movement. It's a grocery store going in or a new business development going in and then people slowly start to trickle in over time until the area is "nice." Wicker Park, Bucktown etc. It's not like the city decided "this neighborhood here, we're going to force people to buy and sell to kick the darkies out!" And most of the people you're talking about aren't paying rent. They're section 8 folks. So if they get kicked out of CHA housing or CHA paid housing for other people, people who can actually pay the rent/buy the property, and make the land more valuable, and increase the tax base, and blah blah, that's a positive.

Gentrification
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) If it wasn't a s***hole why were they a problem? If it is a s*** hole why do they care that they're being moved out? edit: i'm interested to re-visit the Cabrini Green Re-Development in another 10 or 15 years. See how the CHA residents are assimilating into those neighborhoods. Are their lives any better? Or do they just feel like victims stuck in a different world (albeit a damn nice one). I'll still never forget the lady I met with over there who used to live in the projects in a 10 x 10 cinder block room covered in chain link fence, moved into a beautiful and brand new 2 bed, 2 bath condo, and complained that she now had to pay $50 towards her electric bill.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) Who would have played QB? Because despite his "poise" or whatever he showed in his one start, Claussen sucks and isn't an NFL quarterback, it would have been as bad or worse with him playing a significant stretch. Unless when he benched a franchised Cutler he would have bought another year by selling "let me bring a QB in" scenario? Even if they lost with Clausen, so long as Clausen was putting up points and being competitive and not throwing the ball away - pretty much what he was doing in his lone start - then Trestman and Emery could say, he look, the system works, we just need a quality QB behind it. I'm arguing that's the Bears out if it had happened that way. Not saying that would have been a good move. Just that they wouldn't have been pressured to clean house like they were in the last few weeks.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) 49ers aggressively pursuing coaches. I worry with so many new positions to hire, Bears will shuffle their feet and have a weak crop to go off of (in a pretty weak crop already). Oh absolutely. If I were a top flight coach i'd rather go to San Fran and Atlanta before the Bears.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) I know you're blinded by your Cutler hatred, but this team was god awful top-to-bottom and Trestman didn't have any sort of control over the locker room or his staff. I don't disagree, but I think you'd have a situation where Trestman gets rid of Cutler much earlier than he did and they start to distance themselves from him. You don't get the Kromer embarrassment. They point to last year where the same team was putting up franchise record offensive numbers when Cutler was out for 6-7 games. They'd point out that the defense was expected to be bad to average and it was the offense that was going to carry the day. And the worst player on offense was Cutler usually. The typical PR job of future hope that the Bears have sold fans for the last 50 years becomes much more believable. I think the whole storyline changes. They'd be a bad team looking to rebuild its defense and searching for a QB. Basically the position of like half the teams in the league.

Much easier to save your job when you have a clear scapegoat. I bet Trestman would have also benched Cutler much earlier in the season. That was so obviously a GM "you have to play that guy" decision.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) If Emery just franchises Cutler for this year instead of the big contract, does he keep his job? I bet he and Trestman both do. Cutler was one of the biggest problems this year from a performance perspective. The defense was the other problem, obviously, but that's a lack of talent more than anything and we all knew that. I bet they could have talked themselves into at least one more season to turn it around.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 27, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) Is Kevin Love a superstar? Are the Cavs a serious threat to winning it all? I am thinking no, and no. Nope and nope. Love has disappeared now that he's not the only focal point on a crap team, and the Cavs are atrocious on defense. They're still a threat, but I'm more concerned about Toronto and Washington at this point.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) I've decided I want a new game console (I currently have a Wii). I am debating between a PS4 and XBox One. It will be primarily for sports game like NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB. I do not play first person shooters. Thoughts? If you play The Show (the only MLB game on the market) you have to get a ps4. If you're playing Madden and the NBA 2k series you can get either. Long term I think the ps4 is going to be a better investment. It has stronger hardware and better exclusive IMO. The problem is right now it doesn't make sense to buy either one. The game options are still really limited.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) This Emery/Trestman era is going to be a punch line to jokes 10-20 years from now. This day couldnt have come soon enough. I think George finally gets it after this embarrassment. I think he is going to get a football guy in here that is proven and keep Ted Phillips out of football decisions. That is the most important aspect of this and should trickle down to the field in due time. No it won't. This is just another failure of this organization. Another terrible hire, another terrible signing. Add them to the list. At some point they're all forgotten.
