  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) Tell me what happens if LeBron doesn't get hot. I'm not the one saying it was the reason the Heat won. The lead Lebron got was gone minutes later.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) Not even trying to do the J4Life thing here, but the greatest player in the world got hot, took over the game, and left everyone in his trail. So no, no surprise. Eh, he got hot at the start of the quarter, then left and the Spurs immediately took the lead back. He made some big plays at the end, but that loss came down to the Spurs missing 4 ft's, not running offense on 2 straight trips down the floor, and a huge Bosh 3.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) There's nothing irrational about deciding that a certain civil status can only be conferred on two people. Much of existing law and private policies surrounding legal marriage would have to be reworked to allow for more-than-two-people legal marriages. SS survivors benefits, power of attorney, health insurance policies for you and your spouse, visitation rights and rights to information at hospitals, etc. I don't personally care, and just because something meets a rational basis doesn't mean it's good or correct policy. But there's an obvious difference between a civil arrangement of two people that excludes certain consenting adults and a civil arrangement that's open to any two consenting people but is limited to two. So we shouldn't change law because it'll require some work? Wasn't there quite a bit of law that needed to be changed to allow same sex marriage?
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) IGN issuing an apology for running the story that The Last Guardian has been cancelled for PS4. It might as well be. Isn't that game like 8 years into development? Maybe I'm thinking of another game, but I could have sworn they were marketing that as a PS3 exclusive for a while. edit: Yep, 7 years. Ridiculous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Guardian
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) There's no rational basis to exclude same-sex couples from two-person marriages. There is a rational basis for having marriage be a two person arrangement from a civil perspective. And what's that?
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) Van Gundy is a moron. Obvious that was intentional. There was clearly a wind up.
  7. Some truly awful officiating in the NBA feaking finals.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) Just finished The World Wars series on History Channel. Awesome stuff. I learned a TON about WWI and WWII that I never learned in school, or at least was not taught interestingly enough to remember. A coincidence that today happens to be the anniversary of D-Day too. Just remember it's a VERY brief synopsis about what actually happened, and it puts a little too much emphasis on only a few people.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-sea...0,4893281.story Pepper Spray and courage beats gun. And Jesus.
  10. Give Illinois the title! http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/110...ok-sham-classes
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) I don't understand the appeal to Nintendo. They just make baby games designed for kids. Their audience just keeps buying nostalgia. Have you played games like Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, etc.? Even for adults those games are a lot of fun. With a 2 year old and limited free time, my gaming habits have really changed. I used to love long single player campaigns. I vegged out on WoW for a while. But I can't do that anymore. Even without my son I don't think i'd have the patience to sit down in front of the TV/computer for 5 hours at a time like I used to. So I need shorter bursts of gaming. That's somewhat why the Wii U appeals to me. The mario games are nothing great (Mario Kart, Galaxy 1 and 2, etc. excluded, because they were), but they're games that aren't so serious and you don't need to devote so much time to it. You can play in 20-30 minute spurts. I still love the occasional long single player games - Last of Us, Uncharted, maybe Watchdogs. But they're a rarity these days for me. Left Behind, the DLC for Last of Us, was awesome btw. The last sequence had my heart pumping.
  12. I think it's ironic that a team full of old geezers played unscathed, while Lebron, maybe the best athlete in the world, was knocked out.
  13. Duncan with a ho-hum 20 and 10 on 90% shooting.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) I honestly think he's doing it for attention He's certainly milking the s*** out of it. Sucks this happened, but the loss of Lebron is negated by the umpteen unforced to's committed by the Spurs. Still, a very entertaining game.
  15. If the Heat lose we have the built in excuse now. And the Great One sits on the bench in the 4th.
  16. Get over it. Both teams have to deal with it. Much ado about nothing IMO.
  17. SA throwing the ball away every other trip down the court.
  18. Manu is a huge difference maker in this series.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) Congress would absolutely have the right to take the President to court over this if they chose to do so. Of course, the reality is that if Congress did that, first there is a solid chance that the entire law saying that the President can't move prisoners out of the Gulag would be declared unconstitutional. Second, then there would be the optics of the Congress taking the President to court over getting a military prisoner back during an election year, which might not play well in some districts no matter what Fox is saying. So, the end result is that Congress will complain for a few days on TV but take no action, a few complete idiots like John McCain will be caught completely contradicting themselves, and this particular potential issue will be forgotten. Instead, the President will continue to understand that he may well have the ability to ignore that law, but as long as he (or in the future she) does not massively overstep that law by, for example, transferring all of the Gitmo detainees to a U.S. Prison, the conflicting legal possibilities will never be settled. I don't think it's a constitutionality question as to what the President can do with Gitmo, it's that Congress doesn't need to be involved in this situation at all, so even if they raised a big stink about it, that requirement that the President informs the Congress under the National Defense Authorization Act for 2014 is meaningless. He's the commander in chief.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) Ty Isaac to Michigan I take it he's no longer looking for the hardship waiver?
  21. I'm getting closer to buying a wii u over a ps4 with all of these mario kart reviews. But I know in the end it's going to be a waste of money. For my gaming habits, which are limited these days, it's basically 2 mario games, mario kart, and maybe, maybe the zelda game if it's amazing (which the reviews will all say it is, despite the last couple being lame and boring). I'm torn.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 06:56 AM) Sounds like a few GOP folks were fine with this a few months ago and now flip flopped. Shocking. I haven't read they were fine with it. I've read they were informed that the admn was talking about an exchange, but weren't informed that it was actually going to be done.
  23. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) This is pretty much me. I think Chief Wahoo is farthest across this line. When I was at Illinois (in the 80's), I felt the same way about some older, cartoonish indian caricatures that you would sometimes still see around. I was very sad to see "The Chief" go, but I understood. I am more pissed about the hypocrisy that deems a horse riding, spear-chucking indian acceptable, but a dancing one "hostile and offensive." Getting rid of the Chief was f'n stupid. All the Chief stuff was a celebration of Indian heritage, and now for the sake of political correctness, no one is going to remember American Indians ever existed in Illinois.
  24. Bell's and New Glarus are awesome. Better than all the ones you mentioned except maybe Three Floyds. I love their stuff. I just visited Destihl Brewery down in Champaign. They have an excellent Roggenbier. I was pleasantly surprised.
