QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Agreed, but I don't think we'll have that choice. If Jackson wants to transfer, I'd say our odds are much higher with him. Yeah you take him with open arms. Jackson's handlers have said he's still committed to Notre Dame though. It's funny how powerful internet rumors have become. Supposedly Brey was asked about speculation that he was transferring to Illinois. Those rumors started as a result of him not playing...so hours before the press conference.

That has to be fake. How did it not break after hitting the ground?

I have a dog (although a small one, boston terrier). While that's one thing that will suck, the non-freezing temps will be amazing.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) Not really. The only one who's going to be a hater about it is Lip, and he doesn't give a s*** if Frank lives or dies. That said, you never know what direction the show could take. Right, that's the one flaw in the theory. Debbie too, to a certain extent. She doesn't seem to care about Frank anymore either. But they seemed to make it a point to say that Fiona was his blood type. And now she's been put into a terrible situation. It would make sense.

It's going to be a muddy mess when all this snow melts. And I look forward to it.

So...are they setting up Shameless to end with Fiona giving Frank a part of her liver to make nice with the family?

Demetrius Jackson, the big basketball recruit that Illinois just missed out on, apparently is not with Notre Dame at their game tonight. Not even in the building. Speculation is he's leaving ND. Supposed to find out what happened from Brey after the game.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) Ohio State was not nearly the basketball school ILL has been when Matta got there. He single handedly made it into a destination and one of the top programs in the country. Few remember that OSU had to vacate wins and face NCAA sanctions because of O'Brien. Since he started at OSU, he's been the most dominant coach in the conference when you look at wins, conference titles and conf tourney titles. He has yet to have a season that doesn't top 20 wins. To think he wouldnt do that at ILL is foolish. Even hiring his replacement, MIller, would have been a good move. So he was a home run hire. Unless you're Marty McFly, no one knew that'd be the case at the time the hire was made. Weber and Matta had a pretty similar resume, except Weber had Big Ten experience for decades. It wasn't some huge mistake and everyone knew it. It was the wrong choice in hindsight, but at the time, eh, I don't think so. And I also think if Gordon maintains his commitment the entire history changes. Weber got screwed and then failed miserably at recovering.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) He was a year away from his Elite 8 run at Xavier but he had done extremely well his first two years at Xavier (following a good year at Butler) and he was local so he should have been on the short list if he wasn't. Plus, just from an interviewing standpoint I can't imagine it would be difficult to tell that Matta would blow Weber away as a recruiter. And apparently Matta was a candidate: http://www.news-gazette.com/sports/illini-...a-illinois.html Matta could have just as easily become one of the other no-names mentioned in that article. You can't look back at coaching hires like that.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) I would trade Weber's tenure in a heartbeat if it would mean Guenther hires Matta instead. As amazing as 04-05 was, without a championship I just don't think it makes up for Weber running the program into the ground (we are now in year 8 of being completely irrelevant as a basketball program) when there are a lot of coaches that could have made the final 4 with that team. It makes me sad thinking about where Illinois basketball would be right now if Matta would have gotten the job instead of Weber. To Weber's credit he found a diamond in the rough in Marcus Foster at KSU. That kid is a stud and is better than any player Weber recruited in 9 years at Illinois. As long as he is there KSU will be solid. Knowing what you know now, sure. But I don't think Matta was some slam dunk hire either. Was he even on the short list? I know he was a local guy but I don't remember him being mentioned along with Weber.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) Ozzie is a good comparison. Personally I wouldn't trade eithers tenure here though since they each brought us the best season in each programs history (or 90 years). Both held on too long and it's best they are gone now. I'll root for Weber because he's a nice guy and since he's no longer affecting my team that is good enough for me.. Probably not for Ozzie since he's an asshole. I'm in the same boat as you. We had a great run with him at the beginning. He had some excusable moments (the Eric Gordon situation really f***ed up recruiting for 2 seasons, and losing Frazier to that broken foot screwed their chances in the tournament on what was probably his 3rd best team) and not so excusable moments (not winning more with Dee/Augustine/Randle, not recruiting a true PG in seven seasons, the debacle of his final year, etc). But Illinois and the Big Ten were too big for him. I still think he's one of the best X and O's guy out there. If you give him players, he'll win a lot of games. But getting the players is the key. I think he'll run KSU like Keady ran Purdue - always top half of the conference, always good but not great. If he gets a real star player, they'll be dangerous. If not, they'll hover around the top 25. He should have been replaced 2 season earlier. But that was Guenther's legacy - waiting so long you end up hurting the program even more.

Thanks Groce for listening to the fan base. Too bad you couldn't have done that about 5 weeks ago. Maybe this season wouldn't have been a lost cause. Bertrand was, again, awful. Egwu continues to dominate defensively despite the cinder blocks for hands. Ekey didn't shoot an airball, so that's progress. Nunn and Hill. Thank God it seems like you guys actually have some talent AND have a swagger to win. Next year will be interesting. A player or two (I'm thinking Abrams) isn't going to be very happy about the lack of playing time if the transfers are any good.- Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) It's only significant because reports earlier said Illinois was completely out of it. So if they are even considered, that's a positive. Look, we were second for Cliff, among other things, it shows you Groce and Illinois can be in the mix for these guys. Don't act like you know what's going on, none of us do. LOL all you want. I don't know what's going on and never claim to. However, it seems the Illinois fan base continues to get overly excited about every little piece of news like this and all it does is set them up for disappointment. I've done it, i'm sure you've done it too. Yes, it's nice to be in the conversation, but conversations mean dick. Groce needs to land some of these guys. BTW, it tells you the state of the programs when the Stevenson student section started an Izzo chant during the game.- 2014 Winter Olympics
Except for the snowflake snafu, I actually thought it was a pretty cool opening ceremony. There was too much artsy fartsy stuff (they all suffer from that), but projecting pictures onto the ice and having people walk/march in line with the projection was pretty cool.- Official Recruiting Thread II
In my limited internet snooping, it seems his dad basically said his recruiting is wide open, and referenced Illinois as a team that is recruiting him. Not sure why people are getting so excited about it. Okafor and Parker both said the same things but we all know Illinois never was a serious option.- 2014 Films Thread

So the wife and I are going to San Antonio next month. She's got a conference so I get to bum around for a few days and wait for her to be done. Anyone been down there before and have any idea of what to do? I was thinking of some golf if there's anything close by that I can take a cab or shuttle to. I was down there years ago with my parents but I was like 12. So I saw some of the sights and did the riverwalk thing, but didn't really see anything else down there.- It's cold outside
Same here. Oh wait, no it's 8 degrees with below zero windchills and the course is covered in 2 feet of snow/ice.- 2014 Winter Olympics
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) F*cking people. There's a petition flying around the interwebs to "stop Sochi from exterminating dogs". There are so so so many stupid people on this planet. They're one step short of exterminating homosexual humans, but yeah, a petition from some random US website is going to stop the "extermination" of stray dogs. Meanwhile, the good old US of A euthanizes 3 million animals a year - where's the petition for that? F*ck dumb people. We at least attempt to find those animals homes first. We don't pay millions to contractors to go out and shoot cats/dogs in the streets.- Wedding Bands
I have a white gold band and wear it 24/7/365. I only take it off to mess with it and itch my finger. I'm surprised some of you don't wear yours. Is that a work thing?- 2014 Winter Olympics
