Is Kansas a Laughingstock or Do You Not Care?
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 10:29 AM) The better question is would we draft a law that specifically states Jews dont have to provide services for Skinheads? The answer is no. This law is unnecessary. You can already deny service to anyone for any reason provided that they are not a protected class. Last I checked gay people are not a protected class, so the question is, why is Kansas wasting their tax payer money on this bill? The law is nothing but hate, its to make people feel unwelcome. Its classic tyranny of the majority. Is it under their state law?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) I know Illinois fans don't want to hear this, but getting into players top 5's is step one. Unless you are crooked as hell, you aren't going to star pulling five star classes out of no where at Illinois. It isn't like a UNC or Kentucky where the name sells the place. It is a process. Just having guys talk about UofI is a good start. If he keeps it up, eventually that first big domino will fall, and kids will start to follow. Really though, with the amount of high level recruits that come out of Illinois/Chicago, it shouldn't be difficult at all to get into the top 5 for a lot of these players. Like DePaul, they should almost by default be in the top 5 as the "home town" school. And they have been, even under Weber. But at the end of the day you gotta land one. Part of the problem here is that people expect the Cook/Conley/Oden class Groce had in year 2 at OSU. It probably helped that OSU also happened to win the big ten championship and made the tournament in year 2.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) Exactly, and they are recruiting a ton of guys they would love to play PG for them in the 2015 class. If they miss out on every single one of those guys, then I would be disappointed. Who's the PG they are recruiting after Brunson? I see at Scout they have Jawun Evans listed, some dude from South Carolina. Doubt that's a legit possibility. It's basically Brunson or bust in 2015 from what I understand.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) Leron Black was a pretty big get. There's also no way this is a 5 year rebuild unless Groce strikes out on every PG in the next few years and Tate is the only PG on the roster. The team next year will be a tournament team. If not, a rebuild will likely be happening under someone other than Groce. With Snider de-committing and better programs offering Brunson, I'd say expect to strike out on decent PG's for the next 2 seasons. Tate will be the starting PG in 2015-2016 unless he goes with a combo guard instead. And he's most likely going to strike out with with the two top center recruits (Stone and Thomas), so there may be a hole there as well unless Morgan really takes a leap. I guess there is always the transfer route, and he's been good at that so far.

That's partly an unrealistic expectation, I know. But at some point he needs to get a guy, not just be in the top 3 or 5. The program needs a program changer or this will be a 5 year rebuild.

The craziest driving is that stretch on the northwest side of the island. Some one-lane roads that go up hundred foot cliffs and back down. You have to wait for other cars to go around the cliff before you can proceed. Breathtaking scenery though. I wonder if they eventually made that a 2 lane road given the amount of traffic that area had. https://www.google.com/maps/@20.998322,-156...N9ReRoQ!2e0

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 11:28 PM) agree 100% on all of the above I don't get the issue with SW boarding. It takes approx 15 seconds to check-in 24 hours before your flight. And you're guaranteed, at worst, a B group boarding pass which means you'll have half the plane to choose from.

Illinois needs to pull out all the stops for Brunson. "Become the next Dee Brown/Deron Williams" has to be the message beaten over his head.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 06:14 PM) If you do the road to Hanna, go all the way around. The road on the backside was fine, at least in 2005, and the contrast from the rainforest side was incredible. Ehh, I would suggest they not. My wife and I did that in Oct 2010 and the back half was LSD potholes times 1000. I guess they could have fixed it, but I doubt it since about 5 people live back there. I was legitimately nervous that our convertible was going to get a flat tire or bent rim or something. It was unavoidable with the condition of the road. I mean, it was cool because it was an adventure - we saw one car in about 2 hours of driving - but the road was awful and you see a lot of "poor desert" (starving animals and run down farms). Also, if you f*** up your rental it's not covered since they tell you straight away that you are not to drive back there. If you get a Jeep it might be ok though. I will say the end of our drive was pretty nice. Once we got back up the mountain it started to rain and we pulled over and stopped at some random winery and ended up having some interesting pineapple wine on a big estate. Shack - we stayed at the Hyatt and loved it. The pool area is pretty cool and even has a grotto with a bar. We also loved walking west along the beach for miles on the nice path and/or the beach through the other hotel properties. There are some nice shops, restaurants and bars along the way. Also you should skip the luau at the hotel (unless you get a good deal). Check out the one in Old Lahaina. Considered one of the best in all of Hawaii. And spend an afternoon in that town just walking around and reading up on the history. Grab this book: http://www.amazon.com/Maui-Revealed-The-Ul...=dp_ob_title_bk When you take your drives it points out off-road spots to check out. Definitely worth it. If you do Molokini crater let me know. Ill look up who we went through and let you know. Our captain was a Chicago guy wearing a Bears hat. He was awesome. We talked about "home" for the majority of the drive to/from the crater and he let my wife drive the boat for a while. The staff was great too. Also, grab a reservation at Mama's Fish House. Some of the best seafood i've ever had. Totally worth the hype/cost. Hit up any fruit stand you pass and try every fruit they have. Some of them will blow you away. Some will be awful. But still totally worth it. Lastly, save your money, head to a local supermarket, grab a minimum of 10 gallons of POG juice (or take containers to the buffet in the morning and fill it up) and some light, local rum and go to town. Skip the 8 dollar mai tai's at the bar (at least for some of the days). You can't get POG juice easily back in the states and you'll miss it after you leave. Sigh, I miss Hawaii. We're renting a beach house with friends next February and the wait is already killing me.

It sucks to have dropped that low, but it's extra practice and more game time. God knows that team needs it.

Jesus. And we can't perform some Osama Bin Laden/Captain Phillips type operation on the leadership there? Are the underlings really going to start bombing the crap out of SK or would they start making plays to take over leadership?

Sigh, that was Groce's best shot at a 5 star immediate impact guy. Dude was tight with Groce, his family loved Groce, his AAU (or some tournament team) was coached by Nunn's dad and one of his best friends is an Illinois verbal commit (Williams). You can't dream up a scenario better than that. And Illinois still whiffs. Illinois just does not get these types of players. It's been 14 years since Dee Brown committed.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) When we went through everything, there are certain people I wasn't expecting much from, as I know their situation, and I don't mind that, I invited them to have them there, not for money. But others that are just disrespectful, and you know they were talking crap about stuff they didn't like, who DO have the means, and give you like 100 bucks for something you paid 400$ for...they suck. I try to be generous when I got to weddings, because I know how much the bride and groom spent on that dinner, etc. I agree some people are cheap. We paid for our own wedding and spent quite a bit. We got $35 "gifts" from some COUPLES (down state family). Like, come on man, that's not even covering the pre-dinner salad.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) It's not fair to Jordan Davis to be killed because Michael Dunn was wrong. edit: we don't allow wives to kill their husbands who have no history of abuse because they think they might be abused imminently. I agree it's unfair. It's a s***ty situation. Referring to your edit, I don't think I claimed otherwise. My point was we have justified killings based on that reasonable fear of imminent harm/death. It's up to a jury to decide if that fear and action were reasonable in a given situation.

Per Tom Skilling: "The storm’s new half-foot accumulations pushed area snow tallies to new benchmarks. At Midway Airport, where snow’s been measured since 1928, Monday’s new 5.4” accumulation sends the 2013-14 total to 72.4”—that site’s 4th-snowiest on the books. The 4.7” Monday snowfall at O’Hare brings the city’s official seasonal tally to a rank of 5th-highest in 129 years of observations at 67.6”."

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) But there was no gun. He'd get credit if there WAS a gun. But instead it was just a car full of teenagers being loud and he shot them. You don't get points for being that wrong. I understand the frustration, but gun/no gun, real gun/toy gun, in the moment like that I don't think it's fair to let someone off if they were right, but convict them if they're wrong. At the time the decision to use deadly force is made, the fear of imminent harm is the same. Context matters in these situations. It's why we allow women to kill their abusive husbands in the moment, but not 2 hours after a fight.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) See, here's the thing. There shouldn't be any possibility whatsoever of Dunn's actions being legal. It is absurd to think that it could be legal to kill someone because you confronted them over loud music, went back to your car to obtain a gun, confronted them again and then shot them to death. Unless you're willing to get rid of self-defense protections, this is what you get. This same case brought 50 years ago is going to have the same issues. The jury doesn't get the instruction that he doesn't have the duty to retreat, but I don't think that was the deciding factor here.
