  1. I spent 1.5 hours last night after work digging out 3-4 foot drifts that covered half my driveway. That sucked. Winter 2013-2014, please stop.
  2. I'm waiting for the anti-American blog post (from an American) for our unwillingness to see how spoiled we are by complaining about all of the Sochi problems. I caught a small reference to it with the toilet paper in the basket picture (that's common in most of the non-Western part of the world apparently) on Gawker. Same with packed-like-sardines hotel rooms.

I still find Lip's entire story line completely unbelievable for his character. He acts like a person without common sense despite being amazingly smart to the point that he got a full ride to this great (fake) school. They've taken a cool idea - Lip at college - and really f'd it up. The Debbie thing continues to be wrong, icky and flat out boring. This has been Debbie's story line just about every season - I act older than I really am. There has to be something else she could do. Frank's story is ok. Nothing great. The new character helps to spice up the show a little, even with the incest grossness. Kevin is hilarious as always. I cracked up with all the asbestos dust everywhere. Sadly, I think Fionna's story line is the best of the main characters. Probably because I would like to be doing those things to her. Good God.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) Go get a courtroom you two.
  5. Illinois has the third worst class of all of the major conferences, just slightly ahead of Utah and Colorado from the Pac-12. edit: I guess if you want to consider the ACC a major conference, they're the seventh worst.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) Ok, time to start considering a change of venue. My wife and I had that very conversation this morning.
  7. Everyone around me (La Grange) was sold out. So, I did nothing. My drive is currently unplowed/shoveled with about a foot of snow. We just drove through it. Tonight will suck because after the streets are plowed i'll have a 4 foot by 10 foot section at least 3-4 feet deep to shovel.
  8. Groce made one substitution the last 9 minutes of the game - a defensive sub with Nunn for a few plays - and stuck with the starers. The starters who haven't been able to close a game all season. Unacceptable.
  9. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) Why do you think this? Also, Henry shot much worse last than year than Ekey is this year and made more than 1 less three per game. Take away Rice and where is any scoring coming from? I don't think Henry was ever given much of a chance. He was a Weber hold over that Groce wanted no part of. I just remember reading about him in high school and when he got to Illinois and he was always mentioned as the guy with the best offensive game. And then he never played. I mean it is what it is. When you play the transfer game, some of them work out, some of them dont. Ekey was a miss, Rice was a hit. Let's hope some of the guys like Crosby and Starks can actually play next year, otherwise it's going to be another .500 team.
  10. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) Why do you think this? Oh, sorry. I'm wrong. I thought he committed along with Hill but that was that other guy. Whose name I can't even find now.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 11:37 PM) We returned 2 role players and a bad center from a solid but not great team and had no impact freshmen coming in. This year was always going to be worse than last unless someone made an unexpected jump. The 2011 class was horrendous and we have no 2010 or 2012 clsas. When Tracy Abrams is the best player from a 6 player class you are in trouble. I don't think Groce has done a great job coaching on the defensive side of the ball this year (and it was really bad down the stretch tonight) but the biggest problem with the D is that our big men suck on the glass and since Ekey was always a bad rebounder and Egwu was a horrendous rebounder as a freshman that isn't surprising. On offense we are just f***ed for this year. When you have no guards who consistently knock down a jumper and no big men who can finish in the paint there is only so much you can do. Can't disagree with much here. I still say they should start Nunn and Hill in place of Ekey and Bertrand. The rotation of Abrams-Rice-Nunn-Hill-Egwu is your best run and gun team. Even if they give up baskets, who cares. They score points. People on twitter last night were saying Hill's game is the reason why he shouldn't start (couple of bad shots, could of bad fouls, and some bad defense). But how is Bertrand or Ekey any better? Bertrand sucks. I don't care if he scores 20 in a game, he sucks. He continues to take awful shots and turn the ball over like a freshman at the worst possible time. He is the definition of momentum killer.
  12. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) Now imagine the team without rice, ekey, Nunn, and Tate and replace them with Shaw, Henry, James, and Orris. The roster was left in shambles. This should be the last bad year. If its not, Groce will be gone fast. Rice and Nunn are the only two worth anything these days. And Nunn would be here even if Weber was still around. Ekey has regressed to the point of being useless. He doesn't rebound and he shoots airballs now. Not sure if he's still hurt or what, but he's doing nothing to help them win. Tate is a low rated, undersized PG. He also gives you next to nothing except poor shot selection and maybe a good pass once a game. And those two are all on Groce, not the last regime. Henry is actually what this team needs. It's too bad he didn't stick around because with his shot he'd be a starter. The rest I agree would have sucked, but I'm not sure they would have been much worse.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) So remember when someone thought they'd be better than last year's team and we had a pretty long debate? Nooooooooo.... I had a reasonable expectation that 3 of the 5 starters would have improved, not regressed. And that they wouldnt be the worst shooting team in the country. Clearly I was wrong.
  14. Whelp, rock bottom. Worst losing streak in 40 years. Might be the dumbest Illinois team ive ever watched.
  15. And man, what happened to Wisconsin. They look terrible.
  16. Cant wait for the renovation to be complete. All the empty A section seats are so annoying.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) I know. It's working. That and she, up until the end of this week, was ignoring Debbie's situation even though it was right under her nose. Who's watching Liam? Joan Cusack's character I think.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) My theory would give us 5 top 50 wins. Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin and Ohio State x2. I think that would be enough for the first four. Ah, didn't realize Minnesota was top 50. The problem is assuming Illinois does make that run they're fighting with Indiana and OSU for that last spot. And they both have more impressive wins.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) Just to be clear what that says...it doesn't say there will be 2 million fewer jobs, it says that people will drop out of the labor force. The number of total jobs will not be effected. This is something you could quite easily predict...for example, it's safe to say that there are a number of people who otherwise could not afford to buy insurance on their own who are being locked into jobs because they need the health benefits. If those people are able to get insurance elsewhere, some fraction of them will drop out of the labor force. In order to draw them back in, things like "increased wages" would be useful. Well, it doesn't say that either. It just say 2 million people won't be working. That could be because they drop out, and it could also be because their jobs are being lost so that employers don't have to provide them with benefits. Like the guy today that went after Obama for this very problem. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/37030...-andrew-johnson As to the first bolded section, I love how you just poo-poo these things away. "Of course, this was obvious to begin with!" It occurring, yes. The degree to which it may occur, no. I read somewhere it's three times the original CBO estimate. And the seconded bolded there makes no sense. People are quitting their jobs with health benefits so they can....get health benefits? And ah, yes, the new talking point, "increased wages." Add it to the list of must-haves to cure the world.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) So here is the rub: You can go out and buy a 200-400 dollar toro, single stage blower and be fine for 7-15 years. But it WILL wear out. I bought one of the power clear 18in ones for my building a few years ago for snow removal and now I use it on my 120 foot driveway. Its worked great. Separate oil/gas throws snow fine, starts like a charm. However I know that within 5 years something on it will break or rust out. http://www.toro.com/en-us/homeowner/snow-b...lear-621-Series My parents have one going on 15 years and surprisingly its still chugging along pretty good. They live in DG with a typical 2 car driveway. Unless you have a GIANT driveway/area with multiple surfaces you are going to be fine with one of those. You wont break the bank and with typical snow you will be happy. When you get to two stages you have to start shopping around brands and you will need a larger place to store it and 90 percent of the time it will be overkill, however those few times when you get a ridiculous amount of heavy wet snow, your neighbors will be jealous. Most of those are heavy duty and guaranteed for life and they probably will last that long. My friends dad has a 40 year old briggs and stratton engine on his and it will throw the f***ing pavement if you want it to. Here is the little bastard I have I think http://www.toro.com/en-us/Homeowner/Snow-B...Clear-418-38272 I bought it on sale and it still kicks ass. I got it about 7 years ago. Added oil twice (they are about 5-10 bucks at jewel) and thats it. Starts up everytime with no issue and is small enough to tuck away in my garage. I would say something like this is more than enough. Yep, I was looking at that exact one at Home Depot. $399 w/ electric start. I'll probably just end up doing that. I went over the weekend and everyone was sold out of anything sub-$1,000. I just know that if I get one it won't snow again all year after tonight/tomorrow. And in 2 weeks they'll run a special on these and the price will drop $50-75 bucks.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) Illinois most realistic tournament chance: -Win the next 6. All very winnable games. Tonight will be the toughest. That gets you to 8 Big Ten wins. Lose any of these and the dream is officially over. The other 5 are Penn State, Nebraskax2, Ohio State, @Minny -Lose at Michigan State. There's 0 chance here unless MSU can't field a team do to injuries. -Michigan at home. Not a believer in them but we probably aren't winning this anyways. -Lose at Iowa. No chance again here. -Pray to the basketball gods that Mizzou only loses one more regular season game and UNLV too. That would leave Illinois at 8 and 10 going into the conference tournament. Nebraska can't win away from home so we take a free win Day 1. Beat Ohio State day 2 and BOOM! We did it. We're going to the first four! Just have to have everything go right while also replacing a bad basketball team with a good one. Frankly I'm not even sure that's enough. That would only give them two top 50 RPI wins (Wisc, OSU). Missouri is currently at 51. I think they'll have to beat MSU, MICH or IOWA in addition to getting to 8-10- or 9-9.
  22. So Illinois only has to win the next 7 or so games and they're right back in this thing. IT CAN BE DONE.
  23. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/cbo-obamacar...-154956476.html That's nice.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 11:55 AM) PROTECT JORDAN: ENGAGED Mmm, k. I'm sure Jordan sold some foul calls in his day. Not denying that. But he, and other players of that generation, never dropped to the ground like a sack of rocks on a routine basis either. That kind of crap that Lebron and others pull has ruined the NBA game. The league had to institute a fining policy because players were faking that crap so much. It's pathetic.
  25. Not even close to being the same. I'm not even sure that's a flop.
