  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) So the Octomom fails to report $30k in income and could get a couple of years locked up. Ty Warner doesn't pay taxes on $25 million and gets a couple of years of probation. If there is one thing in the world to ever not try to find something a little cheaper is a good lawyer. Always go with the best you can afford. I think it had more to do with net worth than what lawyer they had (though i'm sure it helped a little). Warner could afford the massive civil penalty (50 million or so) which IIRC dwarfed the amount he evaded. I also recall there being a big emphasis on his philanthropy.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) I think I already know the answer to this, but I am going to ask anyway. I live in a subdivision that is about 9 years old, but the builder/developer is still selling lots and building houses. The subdivision has a HOA, but the HOA is run by the builder or its designee until 100% of the lots are sold and then it gets turned over to the homeowners. The company managing the HOA flat out sucks. They only care about getting their monthly fees and provide terrible service. Of course, the HOA charter only lists the duties/responsibilities of the HOA and does not specify any time frames or service levels. We have had a street light out for 45 days. The management company has promised that it will be fixed "by the end of next week" three different times, none of which actually happened. When I call them, I keep getting excuses such as: snow, cold, holidays, waiting for a part. To me, this is a serious safety issue, and it seems borderline negligent that it is taking this long. My guess is that I really have no legal options other than to bend over and take it, but I thought I'd check to make sure. This is in Indiana if that makes any difference. Did you contact the developer to see if they can put pressure on the management company? That would at least provide additional notice of that outage and the fact that the management company isn't dealing with it in case something does happen. It definitely could be a safety issue if it continues. Otherwise you might want to check the HOA agreement for any recourse in case the management company isn't doing its job. I'd just keep calling and bugging them. Eventually they'll get tired of hearing from you and fix it.
  3. Also, just so I can be included: LOL at the Beiber v. Jordan comment.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) Zzzzzzzzzzz As a person - LeBron > Jordan all day, everyday. Only Jordan jockers think he would be "untouchable." The gambling stuff alone would be magnified times infinity in 2014. We have entire cities devoted to gambling. Our society celebrates it. Why do you keep bringing this up as a moral deviation?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) Also with Rick(andrew lincoln) from Walking Dead. My wife pointed it out because she likes the movie "Love Actually". I cant detect the slightest bit of english accent when I watch Walking Dead. Its kind of funny how english actors are able to suppress their accents, but a large portion of american actors cannot fake the english accent. Because he hides it behind a terrible southern accent. I was pretty floored when I learned that Stringer (Idris Elba) was English.
  6. God i hate sports. I need a new hobby.
  7. Whelp, fun season while it lasted.
  8. How does Ekey not get 7-8 set plays a game? Hes the only good shooter they have.
  9. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) I'm guessing he's one of the better three point shooters in practice and the Illini need people to space the floor. That's how devoid of 3 point shooters the Illini are this year. Egwu is used to try to stretch the floor. Terrible. Doesnt work when he's made about one three in the last two months
  10. Groce, please tell him to stop shooting threes. Christ.
  11. Illinois is horrendous. So much standing around.
  12. That was an odd last 10 minutes. Wisconsin was getting everything it wanted, and then suddenly the crazy 3's weren't going in. I don't think that zone was really all that effective since they still got great looks. Good win for Indiana. Makes Illinois' win look a little better.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) I guess Im confused as to the problem. The govt didnt just let these officers walk away, they charged them pursuant to the law and a jury found them not guilty. If anything that shows that the police do have to answer for their actions, but as always in America everyone is innocent until proven guilty. If the "facts" are true, and a man with a mental disease was reaching for a cops stun gun after they tried to subdue him, what are they really supposed to do? They are Drs, they dont know if its pcp, insanity or what. If a jury found them not guilty based on the evidence, it is what it is. Was this how you reacted to the Treyvon Martin shooting? (Serious question, not trolling/baiting)
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) I went heels-up walking off of a frozen pond and knocked myself out cold when I was little. Head trauma is kind of a thing with me. That explains some things...
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) You must not know many women who are continually getting stiffed on child support. It's not that simple. Admittedly I don't, I just know what is available under the law. I'm sure there are cases out there where Judges are too lenient on guys that are habitual about being late and/or not paying, but at some point the end result is either they pay (if they can) or they go to jail.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 08:11 AM) I'm not talking about those without money. I'm talking about those making really good money and just simply refusing to send payments. States, at least in Indiana's case, don't do enough to take care of this. EDIT: Child support is by no means just a "ghetto" issue. Men of all income brackets are gaming the system to skip out on payments. In a lot of ways, it's a bigger problem at the higher incomes because the amounts being dodged are higher. I'm not sure this is as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. Any woman in this situation can go to an attorney and get the situation resolved. You can garnish wages, place liens on property, etc. to get the money that is owed.
  17. Embiid looks like a young Olajuwon.
  18. My 1.5 year old son did a header right into the corner of our big coffee table a few months ago. We bought the stupid thing because it was nice and rounded on all of the corners so he wouldn't hurt himself. The legs, however, are carved out and each have one little section that is squared off and comes to a point. I recall having a convo with my wife when we bought it about the odds of him falling and hitting himself on that leg as being astronomically small (the leg is also partially under the table, so I thought even if he did fall near it, he'd hit the top of the table first). Well, my son tripped one day on the rug and managed to hit that spot right under his lip. Just a perfect, one in a million shot. He was gushing blood all over me and the floor. I thought for sure he'd need 20 stitches and he'd be scarred for life. Luckily after a couple of minutes he calmed down and we cleaned him up and it wasn't that bad. He has a tiny scar, but you can't see it unless you really look for it. He's also done a header right into the base of our iron table out on the deck. He hit his forehead square on it. That happened like 2 weeks after a buddy of mine became paralyzed from diving into shallow water. I thought for sure he broke his neck, but again, he was fine. I've learned with this first kid that kids (1) hurt themselves constantly, and (2) are amazingly durable.
  19. Luck is better than either of them.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) Meh. Carroll, Belichick and Harbaugh are all equally "the worst" to me. Carroll cheated in college then bolted to the NFL to escape punishment. And now he coaches a team full of roided up cheaters. He's worse than the other guys IMO.

Anyone still watch Downton Abbey? They've managed to make me hate Lady Mary even more, despite her situation.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) There is pretty much nothing likable at all about this version of the 49ers. The Patriots are still the Patriots and as a Chiefs fan I detest the Broncos. So I'm all aboard the Seahawks bandwagon from here on out. Russell Wilson is one of the most enjoyable QBs for me to watch play so I'm rooting for them Ugh, but Pete Carroll is the worst.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) Yep, some people are just stupid. In one scenario the hospital doesn't get paid, in the other the hospital does get paid. Some people may be too stupid to understand that when companies get paid for services they can continue to offer services to all their customers. It's a basic business concept that the average person understands, but like you said, some people are stupid. Our health industry does not operate like a typical business. A typical business doesn't have the government as a surety.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) If the FO is "doing everything they can to get a top 5 pick" they are waiting for the lottery to end and offering Joakim Noah for one of those picks IMO they should make a package deal for Love that includes their 1st round pick, the Charlotte pick and the rights to Mirotic. Gives Minnesota a chance to rebuild with picks in a deep draft since they have to know Love is leaving after next year anyway. Noah, Love, Butler, FA shooter, Rose. Winner.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 06:26 AM) I watched the first two Brooklyn Nine-Nine's and just wasn't digging it. Maybe I'll try again if it goes on Netflix. I don't put a lot of stock into the Golden Globes though. Same, never cared for it.
