  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) The midwest is flat as a pancake, it should be easy to lay down high speed rail. It's not that simple. Maybe 70% of the route is flat farmland that would be easy (but not cheap) to build on, but as soon as you get close to the suburbs it's going to be insanely expensive to acquire/upgrade land and infrastructure near the cities. If it cost a billion dollars to build one stupid football stadium, imagine the cost of building a new high speed line from Chicago to St. Louis.
  2. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) I would be all for pumping money into infrastructure. America is so ass backwards compared to some of the other first world countries of the world. What other country can compare to the geographic obstacles we have? We put things off too long, and there's plenty of work to be done, but I don't think it's very easy to compare Europe or Asia to the US.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) That movie feel short IMO because they explained NOTHING. All of a sudden they are on a train and the food is amazing, but WHY?? There was no narration at all. I'm the opposite. I think the movies dwell too much on the non-games stuff. We got in the first movie that all of the districts are poor, hungry and have little to no luxuries, but the capital and everyone who lives there are well fed and rich. Really the big upgrade in the movies is not having to read 40 pages of inner monologue about what boy Katniss likes/dislikes and why. That crap was awful.
  4. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 04:18 AM) That's a good point. I didn't event think about how the controllers are bluetooth. You could play all the great Playsation games on your PC with a wireless PS3/PS4 controller in your hands, which makes it quite literally a portable playstation. Hello, long plane rides. I read a story last night that a ps3 controller is mandatory for it.
  5. So one reason I love console games more than PC games, despite my preference for keyboard/mouse over a controller: not having to spend hours "fixing" a game that I just downloaded. I got the Max Payne 3 package deal from Amazon for 6.99 last week. After taking a full day to download, I was excited to play it last night. I click on the shortcut and boom, immediate failure. Something about not being able to find a game key. Literally 2 hours of internet searching and basically hacking my way into the game later, I was able to play it. By then it was 11pm and I had no more energy. With a console you stick the disc in and play. No bulls***.
  6. I agree generally that the books are almost always better than the movie, mainly because of time constraints. One recent exception? The Hunger Games.
  7. Whelp, that's enough time wasted for me. Expecting a loss, but not a blow out. Hopefully this gets the team refocused.
  8. I think that's 8 pts from layups missed by Tate.
  9. At least they came out with some pride and made a run. Rice needs to continue to drive and get to the line. Get this down to 10 with 10 to go and who knows what happens.
  10. Illinois should have a few more trips to the line with the contact inside. Shooting so poorly and playing no defense is the reason they're getting bown out. I f***ing hate wisconsin.
  11. 13-3 free throws advantage to wisconsin. And this aint a Bruce Weber jumpshot team.
  12. Jesus, cant get anything to go in. Meanwhile wisky getting to the line anytime they want.
  13. Cant hit a shot, even the bunnies
  14. Not a good start on either end of the floor
  15. What's with the DVD quality qualifier to these posts? It's either full HD or it's not worth it IMO.
  16. If the Iowa game was any indication, it's going to be called old school with a timely touch foul here and there.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) To be fair, there is plenty of documented evidence of police departments classifying lots of items to improve crime statistics, (Oh that wasn't a Mexican we stopped, he was Caucasian, right, RIGHT?) and it isn't like Chicago exactly has the cleanest reputation as a PD. It isn't that hard to imagine murders being called suicide or accidental death here and there to fudge a number a bit, when the opportunity arises. According to The Wire, that stuff happens all the time. Seriously though, the New York PD just got in trouble for doing this. I'm sure most large PD's do.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) Pretty excited for this game tonight too. For some reason I think ILL matches up well with Wisconsin. This is going to sound hilarious coming from an Illinois fan but.....it's going to depend on the officials. And by that I mean how they call the game. If they call it per the new rules, Illinois has a good shot because they'll get to the line a lot. If they play a physical game, their ability to drive to the hoop is less of an advantage. In Madison, I think it'll be a long night. I think Egwu gets a bunch of cheap fouls early, and Illinois plays from behind the majority of the game. Not a blowout, but something like 67-59 Wisconsin.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 06:45 PM) I think the right answer is probably that the hospital is paying for it but they're doing so because they're compelled by law to pay for it up until a certain point. The family appeared to be an African American family from near Oakland and gave no impression that they're independently wealthy, so the hospital is probably paying for it as part of one of the cases we talk about where hospitals are compelled to admit and pay for anyone who shows up at an ER and can't simply let people die. In the case where either an insurance company can pay or the family can pay, then those groups could continue paying for care as long as they'd want or as long as they're under contract to do so. If they were insured, my guess is that the insurance company would be involved in the legal process regarding removing life support. As far as I can tell the court case has been the hospital against the family, with the family not wanting the hospital to keep the body on life support. That mostly likely tells me that the hospital is the one footing the bill due to a legal compulsion to do so without the permission of the family to remove that support. Racist! Also, this thread is all sorts of disgusting/depressing.

I just read a story about "Dryuary" - no alcohol the entire month of January. I think i'm going to try it. That, and exercising 4-5 nights a week. And eating healthier. 30 days, hard core. Try to lose 10-15 lbs.
