  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) I really like Byrd and Ward, but that is about it. Whitner is a solid player too. Lol, Major Wright at 6. I guess his age allows him to be considered a work in progress.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) She is sooo drunk... How pathetic do you have to be to get that emotional about a f***ing game. A game that you have ZERO control over.
  3. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) Kwame alone has actually made $64 million in his career. Somehow he's still getting checks. It's scary how much money you can make if you're 6'10" or taller even if you have little talent. Fun list of career earnings for bust big men... Kwame Brown- $63.99 mil Michael Olowokandi- $37.9 mil DeSagana Diop- $47 mil Darko Milicic- $52.3 mil Stromile Swift- $43.2 mil Tyrus Thomas- $37.2 mil Joel Przybilla- $44.7 mil Etan Thomas- $44.7 mil Jared Jeffries- $40.5 mil Obviously there are other examples, but I picked those guys because they still got sizeable second contracts even though they were pretty awful. Jesus what a waste of money.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) To me, this means it's a 4-5 year deal. Cutting him in years 4 and 5 would "only" save 8m a year. Base salary: 14 - $1m 15 - $4.5m 16 - $6m 17 - $7.5m 18 - $8m That could be an impact guy or two. At least this leaves the Bears with some money to make some deals the next few years. I'm ok with it.
  5. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) $37M for Candyman, $63M for Kwame. And we wonder why families can't afford to go to games anymore.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) tl;dr we know so damn little about that country, and what little we do knew can be pretty damn wacky, that it's always at least plausible. Right, I was agreeing with what he wrote.
  7. Based on the stories i've watch on North Korean prison camps and the complete mind f*** the government has on its people, I absolutely buy this as a possibility.
  8. I'm sure the general shift of most states/counties away from criminalizing lesser drug offenses due to monetary restraints is a big reason for this.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) Chicago could also use an app like San Francisco has that tells you exactly how to get from where you are to where you want to go using public transportation based on schedules, fares and time. Google and/or the CTA website doesn't do this for you?
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) It'd be nice to be able to take Metra in from the western suburbs to a central station and then easily transfer to the blue or red lines. The blue line isn't TOO far away from union station. Couple of blocks. I don't see how it could get over to the red line without digging a tunnel. Edit: and really you could just go metra to I think Clinton as NSS says to Jackson and catch the red line there. But now you're talking 20 minutes minimum probably if you don't have to wait for trains. Much faster just to get off at union and walk the 10 minutes over to the red line.
  11. Yeah I didn't really buy it. If that doomsday scenario happens, the country goes into depression and money basically becomes meaningless anyway.
  12. I can't even imagine the cost/legal fights that would be started for any rail expansion
  13. This would be fun: http://www.moneynews.com/MKTNews/billionai...=nationalreview
  14. Re: it being better on TV, I went to a Vikings/Bears game a couple years ago and sat behind one of the goal posts in the Metrodome. I think I saw more of the "game" from that angle than on TV. You can actually see what the coaches are trying to do and you can see entire plays develop. The broadcast angle limits so much of the view to where the ball is you miss a lot. But still, there's no way in hell i'd go to a game if it were 10 degrees, let alone -10. I think 30's would be my limit unless it was a superbowl and the Bears were assured of winning it.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) Except if it is blacked out, lol You can bet the teams or the NFL itself will buy up those remaining tickets just to say they got sold. Heck, they already extended a set deadline on ticket sales. Clearly the rule means nothing. There's not a chance the games will be blacked out.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) Weird that a boat would snowblow for you. Oh you!
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) I [heart] my new snowblower. For the three years I've been in the burbs I keep saying that I'm going to get one. And then the snow melts and I forget how much I hate shoveling and I put if off for a year. One of these days... Got home tonight and my wife and I were surprised to find our driveway cleared off. No idea who did it, but thanks rogue Snowblower Ferry!
  18. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) if youre going to be a distraction as a pro athlete, you better make sure you arent easily replaceable. Yeah that's my takeaway. How exactly is this different than the lady that got fired for making an offensive joke? You are the representative of a corporation and if they don't like it they get rid of you, regardless of whether what you say is good or bad. I also agree with the comment that as soon as Kluwe starting getting recognition for speaking out it became more about him than gay rights. His article just confirms that.
  19. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) I work for a company who's marketing department is the dude who puts the logo on trailers. We do just fine. Maybe that's because shippers aren't going to be brainwashed into spending twice the money on an identical product by TV. Marketing, aside from government, is the biggest f***ing waste of money I've ever seen and I do my best to avoid companies I see on TV and in ads because I know the cost of trying to trick me into buying their product is built in to the price of the crap I'm trying to buy. I still sometimes have to eat McDonalds or buy some crap at Target due to major geographic and parking (76 feet long don't park good) limitations but I'm generally proud of the job I do avoiding that crap. If it were a matter of "we charge more because we pay our employees money" I'd be a lot more receptive to buying the s***. Marketing is essential in our society. Why else would we consume so many products that aren't necessary and/or are bad for us?
  20. Probably a dumb question, but I assume a PS+ membership is valid across multiple consoles, right?
  21. That's a lot of money for a guy that hasn't played a full season in 4 years and has played 10 or 11 games in 2 of the last 3. And for a guy that's 1-9 against the Packers. And for a guy that has won, what, one playoff game?
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) No tone on message boards so please take this as a genuine inquiry that I ask whenever people say they don't want Cutler around. Who/what would you like the Bears to have done? It's a deep QB draft from my understanding, but where the Bears are drafting they were not going to get any of the top ones without making a ridiculous trade that would have cost multiple high draft picks. Stop gap would of had to be take a QB in mid 1st or 2nd round and get a stop gap guy like Schaub or franchise Cutler for about 16mm this year. Cutler is in no way perfect, but the elite QBs are going nowhere and looking at the options I'm OK with extending Cutler. Now let's work on that D a little bit, that was a s*** show ? They pick 14. The draft is pretty deep for QB's this year. Chances are they were going to be able to get a decent option without giving up anything. Depending on the money he's guaranteed, I would have found a stop gap and drafted someone or franchised him and drafted someone. If it's in the 12-13 million dollar a year range, i'm cool with it. If it's 17-18 they should have let him walk.
  23. I use an AMEX card from Costco. The annual fee is the membership to Costco and it gets 1-3% cash back on purchases. Each February I get a check for $3-400 bucks.
  24. Vonleh is going to be a beast if he sticks around. This game seems like a better talent vs. better coached/disciplined team. Indiana has more talent but is shooting itself in the foot constantly. So many turnovers and yet they're still in the game. Also, terrible T on Groce there. Ridiculous. Groce was right to complain about the no call on Ferrell. He's all over guys with no calls in a season all about "freedom of movement."
  25. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10220178...rew-bynum-trade Sigh. I hate the Bulls FO.
