  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 06:44 PM) Kansas canceling in home with Cliff. 9 days until this is ova People are going nuts over this, but is it really a big deal? Why couldn't they give Cliff the same in-home presentation at Kansas when he's there? Why waste the money on the trip? I know there are lots of rumors that Kansas has cooled on Cliff and are focusing on Okafor, but I dunno, I just don't buy it. Maybe it's because Illinois rarely gets these top guys and when we do they either decommit or go crazy.
  4. last second shot away from being winless. im worried
  5. the second unit is awful
  6. And the guy was sent a $6,000 bill for the whole ordeal!! Hope that guy makes millions and never has to work another day in his life. http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/1...-in-drug-search
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Isn't this the same as Ozzie insulting the Cuban community? Do you really want a player using the word n*****? What does that say to a portion of your customers who have felt the sting of that word if you do nothing and allow the man to continue to play? Also, workplace rules and laws should apply, they are in place to protect people from this b.s. Imagine if companies are allowed to exempt themselves because outsiders don't understand the culture. I understand some flexibility between an insurance office, an NFL locker room, and an antique store. But this crosses over any reasonable boundary one would set. Not really because Ozzie was being derogatory to a major portion of the community that the Marlins wanted in the seats. And as soon this stuff came out Incognito was off the team.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) The NFL, no, but I do certainly think less of the Dolphins. Incognito has proven to be a bigger POS than anyone could have imagined and the Dolphins apparently entrusted him to "toughen up" Jonathan Martin even though they were likely well aware of his racist nature. ?
  9. I'd wait another 2-3 weeks. Amazon has had a wireless sale in November-December the last few years where they sell the top phones for a penny if you sign a new 2 year deal.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) I think you're right on the "lower level coach" stuff; these teams employ what, 10-20 different coaches and each player probably has 2-3 different guys working with him? It's kinda hard to understand the point of those huge coaching staffs if they can't keep track of player activities when the season is on. This all happened in the off season though right? I thought those voice mails were from April. And again, it could be that this was all after-practice stuff.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) But there's a good chance they're still liable in a legal sense if they did ask for that to happen. The devils in the details, but giving someone a job of toughing up a teammate doesn't mean you're demanding that they leave threatening voice mails and commit assault.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) Why would it matter if Incognito is better than Martin anyways? Incognito is a guard and Martin is a tackle. That's like saying that "because Julius Peppers is better than Henry Melton, the Bears should get rid of him." No, you'd ideally like to keep both of them so your team is better. What does that have to do with any of this? Incognito (and the Dolphins in generally) have a PR nightmare on their hands. Also, the Dolphins asking for Martin to be toughened up is pretty general. Them asking Incognito, a known POS, to toughen him up brings their ability to identify high character players into question. Oh come on. This is the ESPN spin machine at work. This isn't a nightmare. The Dolphins (and NFL) aren't losing money on this thing. It's just another story about professional players being assholes. Who honestly thinks less of the NFL or the Dolphins because of this? It was one asshole and one victim. Without more, case closed. Even if the dolphins coaches asked Icognito to toughen Martin up, they didn't know he was going to be a racist asshole about it or go about it in the way that he did.
  13. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) I'm surprised at how many people in the media have blamed Martin for this. Ricky Williams was one of the worst. Pretty disgusting stuff. I haven't seen anyone blame Martin. If that's the case, that's f***ed up. I do think being a Stanford educated adult he should have at least gone to his line coach to tell him what was going on. As of right now, it doesn't appear that he told anyone about this and then just up and quit one day. That doesn't excuse anything here, but maybe that was a mistake that could have prevented this from escalating as much as it did. Obviously you blame Icognito for all of this, but I also blame the rest of the Dolphins players. Maybe this all happened behind closed doors and it really only involved Martin/Incognito, but I really doubt that. Guys should have seen something going on, especially the other lineman. Why didn't they have his back? There's rookie hazing, and then there's assault, and it's pretty clear a line was being crossed here. I can't really blame the coaching staff or the Dolphins front office. Maybe a lower level coach that also should have seen something going on, but there's no way a head coach is going to be able to see one guy being harassed more than normal. He has to rely on his asst coaches for that kind of stuff.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 07:07 AM) My Dad was an All-State lefty pitcher in high school. Went to a small D3 college nearby (one ss2k is very familiar with). Had ML scouts watching him pitch when he blew his arm out. He was finished. Figuring that I might have inherited some of his talent (I'm also a lefty), I started throwing when I was 6. Where I lived ages 7-8 were t-ball thus no pitchers but I still kept working with my Dad. Then, my Dad got a new job and we moved to a new town. In the new town, all the little league teams had established pitchers (established pitchers = kids of the coaches). I played for two years and never got a chance to pitch in a game. At age 10 I quit baseball forever. I had a similar story although a little later in life. I was a lights out pitcher in little league from like 10-14. My nickname was always "wild thing" because I threw it harder/faster than anyone else and one pitch out of ten was going to hit someone (and usually did) so everyone was scared to face me. In 8th grade my parents got me into a newly developed travel league with some kids I knew from prior summers. One of the kids was a pitcher and his dad was the coach. And of course, he was the favorite. He wasn't anywhere near as good as me but he started just about every game. The one game I did start early in the season I threw two pick off throws wild (IIRC it was the first time every pitching out of the stretch) and allowed some runs to score. After being berated for it, and running, I never got another opportunity. This despite the fact that whenever I came in for relief I rarely let anyone get on base, let alone score. I remember my parents screaming at the coach on a couple of occasions, but nothing changed and I basically started to lose interest in the game and eventually quit near the end of the season (why drive for an hour to sit around?). Around that time I also found out that Bebe looked different (i.e., girls and boobs) and never played after that. To this day my parents bring up my baseball past as if I was good enough to play in college or beyond. I laugh it off, but you can tell my dad is still upset/pissed that I didn't stick with it.
  15. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) I dont go to jail if I refuse to give a private company my money. Nor is a private businesses money "our" money.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) Yes, pork projects happen. Dumb projects happen. I happen to be working on a sort of dumb one right now! But Duke can't actually identify anything. All he's doing is restating his priors that "government=bad/failure/waste" while also demonstrating that he doesn't actually know even the basic details of infrastructure engineering and maintenance, or what professional organizations like ASCE are and do. He's just repeating his ideology, not making an argument or presenting any sort of evidence. Right, and the problem is the government isn't supposed to waste money like that, especially when it's also asking for more from the people (well, the middle class anyway). But it does, continually.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 11:05 AM) Duke expressed exasperation about our electrical grid getting a "C," but he really should read up on the problems with it. I'm sure iamshack can provide some comments as well. Maybe he remembers back in 2003 when a huge chunk of the country lost power for days due to a series of electrical grid failures. There's plenty of reports by groups like ASCE and IEEE and news stories that detail the issues with our current grid. The paperwork. Dear god, the paperwork. Forms on top of forms on top of forms. Ha, yeah. I get to review that stuff on occasion. I am still to this day amazed at the fact that IDOT is somewhat organized in keeping records of those projects.
  18. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) How the hell could our rail network, which is almost twice the size of any other countries', be a D-? Or our electrical grid be a C? The interstate highway system is the envy of the world and its a D. Its ridiculous. I'm no expert, but I have to imagine those grades are on a perfect scale. In other words, a C might be totally acceptable and functional, whereas A is pristine. Anyone who lives in Chicago knows the roads are s*** in the winter and probably get an F, but they're still functional for the most part. Also, after litigating several cases involving huge road construction projects, i'm not at all surprised anymore with how many millions of dollars those projects spend given the amount of work involved from the design through the end of construction. It's insane the amount of stuff they (the state and its contractors) do.
  19. Duke is obviously going way overboard, but in the most general sense he has a point about government overspending on new construction projects that aren't necessary and/or maintenance work that isn't REALLY necessary. The Bridge to Nowhere is a good example. And while it wasn't built, the "Road to Nowhere" leading up to it was a complete waste of 25-30 million dollars and was only built because if the state didn't spend it, they'd have to give the money back to the Federal Government. The Thompson Correctional Center is another. Pork projects like that happen everywhere.
  20. The biggest draw to the new version of the Fire is the ability to download an Amazon Prime show for on-the-go watching. That's the only company that I know of that is offering that option.
  21. Cliff is apparently going to Kansas this weekend. His GF's team plays their first game. These next 10 days are gonna suck.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) good god the meatheads calling the Score today. "I just want to say, well the Bears wouldnt have won if Rodgers was playing. But I am a Bears fan" "They didnt have their QB..." "Lets not get excited about this" STFU, the Bears are just as injured if not more injured than the Packers at the same positions, as well as DL The Bears couldn't stop the run with 8 guys in the box. If Rodgers was behind center, they wouldn't have had 8 guys in the box. So, their running game would have been BETTER and you're giving the ball to the best or 2nd best QB in the league. Bears were rightly a 10 point underdog.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) I've decided that Jay is permanently broken. He will never trust an offensive line again. Last night we saw that our offensive line is one of the best in the league, because the QB actually moved with the pocket and didn't collapse the moment pressure was coming towards him. Yeah, stepping IN to the pocket was huge and allowed guys to get open. I feel like Jay either just sits there or backpedals. He rarely step into his throw like McCown was doing.
  24. That was one of the most enjoyable Bears games I can recall watching over the last several years. LONG, extended play drives. Getting first downs out of third and longs. Running the ball down their throats when it mattered most. Everyone on offense gets an A. That line was/has been amazing.
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 03:43 AM) DJ Williams verbals to illini http://www.highschoolcubenews.com/news_art...errer_id=599124 Groce on a roll with 3 top 50 kids in less than 2 months. Williams is the first Simeon kid to EVER commit before his senior season. That is so huge for future recruiting at the best school in the state.
