QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 01:03 PM) That sounds about right. I think he will be a great pickup for whoever gets him. Criminally over-criticized among Bulls fanbase. What are you talking about? The criticism is 100% valid. He posts good numbers again bad teams and then wets the bed against good teams. He's routinely taken out in the 4th quarter because his defense is subpar (how can you justify paying the guy for playing 3/4's of a game?). If he can't hit his stupid rainbow shot he's a waste of space on the floor and that's far too often for a guy making 13-14 million a year. Edit: oh, and the screaming. GET DAT JO! AHHHHHHH! AND ONE!!!!!! And what's sad is everyone said this before he was signed. David Lee would have been the better FA pick-up by far.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) 1 player is currently in jail without bond. 1 player was out on bond. Itd be much more interesting if we were comparing a player who was going to potentially miss game time due to being in jail. Im not sure I can name a player who has remained on a team while he has been in jail (convicted or not.) Not many employers are going to be cool with you not showing up to work for the following: "Sorry cant show up to work, currently in jail without bond, will be back eventually" Do they really need to wait for the trial to finish before they realize im not helping them? They released him before he was ever arraigned, shortly after he was arrested. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-f...related-charges I'm not saying he should be on the team through his trial, but I do think a lot of this was reaction to the rumors and reports and not actual facts that were known. The same sort of patience didn't apply here as it did in Lewis' case which, in the same way, was very damning in terms of rumor and reports about Lewis' involvement. Again, not saying it's right or wrong, the Patriots can do whatever they want. I just find it interesting.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) OJ? This is more comparable to Zimmerman/Martin. There is no circumstantial evidence that Ray Lewis was even involved in the fight. The evidence is that Lewis tried to stop the fight and when he could not, destroyed evidence because he didnt want to ruin his career. He flipped and helped the prosecution with their case against his friends. Even with Lewis testifying against the defendants the jury found that the murder was justified due to self defense. And putting the cart before what horse? The Patriots can do whatever they want. If Hernandez is found not guilty and signs with the Jets and beats the Patriots, thats their risk. Why do I really care if the Patriots fire a guy who is being charged with murder, unlike Lewis he is in jail. He cant really come to practice or help out with the team, so why would you keep him? It just makes no sense to compare these cases. A better comparison would be Rae Carruth, who was released after he failed to turn himself in. Hell Leonard Little actually killed someone and went on to have an 11 year career. Each team treats each case differently, but I dont really see a reason to get after Lewis for obstruction of justice. I think a lot of people have done that in their life, its just a natural reaction to s*** going down. They were both charged with murder. One team allowed the investigation to finish, the other did not. That's all that needs to be compared here. I'm not saying it's wrong or right, just that it's interesting how quickly people are erasing Hernandez from things before he even appeared in court (or maybe like A day later).

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) You sure are speculating about the Ray Lewis case. Nothing that I have ever read or seen on that case directly links him to the murder. In fact the case was so weak, no one was ever convicted of murder and I believe Lewis (due to a plea) was the only one convicted of ANYTHING. So unless you have some other evidence it really is not comparable, because there is no doubt that a melee happened and that both sides were fighting, there is just no direct evidence that Lewis actually killed them. http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2013/01/24/5...s-murder-trial/ So that would probably be why Lewis was treated differently. He was still charged. And the Ravens did nothing. This case is obviously more of a slam dunk, but I dunno, seems like we're putting the cart before the horse here, as society tends to do. Edit: and OJ was innocent too right? Too much circumstantial evidence for me to just let Lewis go on a lesser charge. Add to that he paid out settlements to the family and you know he was involved. Maybe he didn't stab the guys, but he was involved and covered it up to protect himself.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) The Patriots cut him for the murder charge, that seems fair, particularly given that it seems he's had off the field "issues" in the past. Did they immediately start the jersey exchange or did they wait a couple days? I don't remember. But Ray Lewis wasn't cut. And he had many off the field issues before his murder charge. He just got his friends to bail him out and take the heat for him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) His 2 friends rolling over on him quick and the apartment full of evidence probably did that. But the Patriots erased him from their records the day he was charged. Some of that stuff wasn't even public knowledge yet (unless I missed the news reports about it).

So.....am I the only one that thinks the Hernandez reaction has been a bit premature? The jersey buy-backs, the digging into his past in Florida, and now EA Sports is getting rid of him in their games. I mean, I get he's like 99.9% guilty if what we hear is true and admissible, but can't we just wait until the trial? Why didn't people react this way when Ray Lewis was killing people throwing away a new suit for a perfectly legit reason after getting into a bar fight resulting in a man's death?

Job Hunt Thread
My firm is in need of a law clerk and being the least senior attorney, I got stuck with basically doing all the work to find someone. After posting the job and getting some resumes, holy crap do I see the other side of the coin with hiring. I have these cover letters that are full page, singe spaced and not a lick of substance. It reads EXACTLY like my cover letter back in the day when I was looking for a job. What a pointless exercise.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) Weather does play a part. There's a reason shootings increase so much during the summer, people are outside all the time. If Chicago didn't have a cold winter, shootings would be even higher. It just makes me laugh when they city uses it as an excuse. That's why the City was trying to get schools to go as close to 24/7/365 as possible. More school=more kids off the street=less opportunity to shoot someone. So incredibly sad. I actually just watched a 48 Hours special about Chicago violence over the weekend. I think it aired several months ago, but it was still pretty good. They had camera crews in town for like 6 months following around the parents of that girl that attended Obama's inauguration and was killed. They found that girl's killer in 2 weeks after a bunch of national press started asking Rahm tough questions (and he responded by putting 200 more police on the ground). They also interviewed another mother who lost her teenage girl in a similar way. It's been over a year since her daughter was killed and the murderer is still missing. AND she claims the CPD basically refuses to get back to her when she calls for updates. So, yeah. If you want justice it helps to have politicians that need their annual PR boost by looking good in front of the cameras. They also made the case that the drug trade in Chicago is ridiculous, heroin especially. They interviewed one of the coroners for a collar county and he all but said heroin deaths are the vast majority of cases he reviews. I really believe all parties involved (the county, city and suburban communities) have agreed to "ignore" the violence problem because at least it's contained right now. If they ever actually cracked down on it like they should all this crime would be pushed out to the suburbs. As is they can just point the finger and say "no no, all this violent crime only happens in the really s***ty areas of town. Please still come to Navy Pier."

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) Yet murders are down like 25% from this point in 2012. Last year they blamed the murders on the unseasonably warm weather. I wonder if this year they will credit the cooler weather with the decline in killings. I still think armed national guard members on every corner of these bad neighborhoods with shoot to kill orders would fix this problem pretty quickly.

67 people shot in Chicago this weekend. Are we sure this isn't becoming Detroit 2.0?

Played the demo for State of Decay over the weekend. Anyone play that? It's a 360 Arcade game. Basically a poor man's Left 4 Dead but more open world with various safehouses to upgrade. A little rough around the edges, but for $20 bucks I might pick it up.

When I was at the store once I saw a hard plastic drain plug and a metal one, I chose the metal one for that reason. Whoops, just saw this.I must have over tightened the last time I changed the oil. Lesson learned.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 6, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Enjoyed World War Z. Last act was pretty intense. I gave it a C+. For being nearly 2 hours long, not a lot of story was told. It just went from set piece to set piece without much substance. I also really hate "convenience" in action movies like this. Everything was too convenient for Brad Pitt's character. Great action/adventure flicks make everything seem logical and believable (even with zombies or some other ridiculous plot). I thought this failed pretty miserably at that. Did anyone else see Matthew Fox as the helicopter pilot? He was in 2 scenes with one line to the wife. My wife caught it but I didn't believe her until the drive home when we looked up the movie's IMDB page. Apparently he was a big part of the movie before being totally cut out. The IMDB trivia page tells that story and also the "original" movie ending idea if anyone is interested.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
Look, all i'm saying is that for 2 seasons now the Bulls have added nothing but role players and a hope that the future will work out for them. Maybe Harden wouldn't have worked, but I refuse to believe that there was no deal out there to be made for anything other than a PG that could have made them better.

OMG! They would have had to give up an asset they overvalue to get better! What a crazy idea! Let's not do that, let's just stay the exact same and hope we draft really well OR hope that 4 seasons from now our projects pan out! You're the fan that GarPax loves because you buy the hope bulls***. "Just wait one more season guys. We couldn't do anything this year but oh boy do we have a plan for the future!"

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Harden's Finals point totals: 5, 21, 9, 8 and 19. He was 2-10 from the floor in both games 3 and 4. Everyone knew Harden was good. No one expected Harden would be as good as he was this past season. And, again, even if the Bulls had seen Harden's '13 coming, do you honestly think the Bulls had the assets to beat what Houston gave up? Being a third wheel doesn't help your numbers.
