The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Thought this was interesting, not sure where to post it. Apparently, Joe Biden, when asked, suggested the President not order the raid that killed Bin Laden, until gaining further intel. And he wasn't alone. Panetta's 60 Minutes interview last night was pretty good. He was all about it simply for the fact that they had gone nearly a decade without much intel on the guy. This was their best shot, so he wanted to take it. The craziest thing he said was that Pakistani military helicopters routinely flew over the compound. They basically knew there was a good chance that Pakistan and the US would get into a battle (albeit small and brief). Still, they decided to go for it anyway. He also seemed 100% certain that higher ups in Pakistan knew who was in there.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 01:32 PM) And bringing in one of Pioli's assistants doesn't count? Eh, I guess, but it's not exactly like being in the Patriots front office/facilities. I dunno, i'd take anyone from the Packers, Steelers or Patriots organizations. They compete every year.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) Rose-Howard is not Wade-Lebron, that comparison doesn't work. Oh and the refs blowing the whistle actually screwed the Heat not the Bulls. How so? They got the ball and Chalmers shot 2 free throws as a result.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
Didn't we just learn that 3 superstars (or at worst, two superstars and one all star) with crap surrounding them is still not a guarantee to win it all? I don't get this trade the farm for Dwight stuff. No thanks. I'll take my chances with a healthy version of this years team. The Bulls should have won yesterday. That's despite the injuries and despite missing AT LEAST 6-7 lay-ups. Not contested floaters, but straight up lay-ups. Hamilton had about 4 on the break and Rose had 2-3. Nine times out of ten you get those to drop. Oh, and that game also included Lebron's ridiculous fall away three pointer with 2 seconds on the shot clock, and that complete screw job by the ref blowing the whistle and then Miami getting the ball. I'd say that was a B- effort by the Bulls and an A- effort from the Heat. And yet it was still decided in the final seconds.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) I hope so. I don't really know how to "gauge" (pun intended) whether or not were in for any culture change. In fact, Emery is familiar with Halas Hall and the way things work. I think that's a big reason he got the job. Accordingly, I'm not really excited for the hiring. I'm cautiously optimistic, mostly just because Phil Emery is not Jerry Angelo. I'm in the same boat. He might work out, but I was hoping that they would really clean house, not just bring in a guy who basically was in the same team for a number of years. I would have taken the Pats guy with one mission: bring everything they do there and bring it here.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 07:48 AM) So I was a big fan of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, but I missed the premier of Gods of the Arena when it was first airing. I managed to DVR the last 5 episodes of the season, but Starz did not air the first episode again after the initial airing. I had it in my Blockbuster queue for months but it was always a "very long wait." Finally I found it on iTunes and watched it on Apple tv. Finally, I was able to get going on this damned series...it's been pretty good, but a lot of the plotlines seem to be recycled from the Blood and Sand. Vengeance started last week so I will be excited to get into that once I finish the finale of Gods of the Arena tonight. I do miss Andy Whitfield. I checked out the new one last night. Lots of TnA and cool fight scenes but the acting and plotlines are still pretty bad. I'll do what I did with Blood and Sand - keep a bunch on the DVR and then make a marathon of it.

2012 TV Thread
I watched Monday's show last night (episode 3) and thought it was more of the same. They're going to add little hints to the overall mystery in each episode, but for the most part it's a procedural. There's not much else on at the moment so I think i'm going to stick with it. It's certainly not must-see television. I'd really like Abrams to do a cable show. Something where he doesn't have to be concerned with the drop in/drop out audience. Make something that builds for 13 episodes ala Breaking Bad, Boardwalk, Mad Men, etc

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 27, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) You can level WoW solo pretty easily, but yeah the endgame stuff you need guilds or at least a big raid of people to do stuff.... I can't say for sure but I'd be guessing Starwars would be similar that once you get endgame most of the content would be at very least groups. Also just like WoW there are quests on the way you cant do alone but mostly can pickup random groups to complete it which I'd imagine is same in Starwars. In WoW at least though all the stuff leveling wise that required groups was optional, it was fun but very easy to do majority of quests solo and might take a little more time could easily level all the way solo. That was my big issue with the WoW endgame stuff. I played that game a ton for a couple of years, and while I had 5-6 other friends that played one night a week, we could never do the true endgame stuff because you need 25+. And public groups suck. Bunch of 14 year olds ruin it.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
I've seen both of them speak in person and Obama (with or without the teleprompter) sounds like a robot churning out lines versus Newt talking like a human. He's a lot like Clinton in that way, and I think it'll appeal to a lot of people that want to compare the two directly. I think the favorability stuff will figure itself out if he gets the nomination. Right now it's up and down:

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 07:22 PM) Serious question for the Republicans and conservatives here: do you believe Gingrich could beat Obama in the national election (barring any unknown circumstances and assuming the economy keeps at its current sluggish pace)? I do, but only if there isn't some reality TV show styled issue with his wives. That's an issue of his character, I agree. But these are politicians, not saints. I think he's one of the best public speakers in the country. He'd crush Obama in a debate. Whether or not that resonates...I dunno.

Rented 50/50 with the wife last night. I'd give it a solid B+. Good, tight story with some emotion and humor to it. Luckily Rogen was tame. Anna Kendrick...man there's something about her that I like. Huge fan.
