QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) Unless Illinois wins its next 3 I may actually root for Illinois to have a bad finish to the season so that there is no doubt at all in Mike Thomas's mind that Weber should be fired. Just got done finishing the game (had it taped). Not at all surprised they lost. You have your typical bad road loss, and today was the typical home loss under Weber. At least they finally decided to throw the ball to Leonard a good amount. Credit Wisconsin for hitting a lot of timely three's, especially in the last 5-7 minutes. I can't decide if I agree with you about them tanking the remainder of the season. I have this irrational hope that they make a decent run in March and Leonard gets convinced that another year won't hurt his draft stock (i.e., Sullinger). Another year with these guys, no Sam, Abrams with more experience, etc. etc, maybe they can be a contender next year in the Big Ten. If Weber and crew leave, the whole program goes into shambles for a season or two (or more). All of the Chicago recruiting pipelines with Howard go to Kentucky (or wherever he ends up). After the PSU game I was all for him getting fired. But after talking with some friends and getting my anger out, really we're sort of stuck. Who else could Illinois get that would be better? And what about recruiting? He's in on a lot of top guys from Illinois in 2013 and 2014. Better be damned sure we can keep those lines open. I think after this year Thomas has to make a change. Get rid of Mclain and Price. Hire some good assistants that might be able to take over in a season or two. Illinois needs a transition, not a straight up change.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 01:52 PM) Sam is absolutely atrocious. Not smart either. I hope he costs Weber his job. Yep, he has no quickness or lift. hurting more than he's helping

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) I spent $800-1000 a semester in law school and refused to sell the books back for dimes on the dollar. Now I have a bunch of heavy law books I am still lugging around. Textbooks on the iPad is something I fully support. They look nice in an office though!

Snowmageddon 2012!
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 10:19 AM) Don't you remember the last storm, and the one before that, and the one before that? The hype machine happens with every snowfall of 1+ inches. Fixed.

SOPA
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) so it really isn't an issue then! Certainly not one that requires changing the nature of the internet. Us laws can't stop overseas piracy. It only restricts us access to it, and even then not really. It's not changing the nature of the internet. They did the same thing with online poker/gambling sites and the world is still standing.

SOPA
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 08:54 AM) The compelling counter example is current reality--these things are readily available for free, yet they still generate billions. I also have zero sympathy for industries who fight vehemently against innovation and do everything they can to stop it in order to protect their current positions. Goods are stolen from retail stores frequently. Is the appropriate response security checkpoints and strip searches at mall entry points? Or do we instead go with much less intrusive measures? Again, appropriate responses in scale with the problems. I'd dispute "readily" available. They're available to a pretty small minority of those who (1) know where to find it and (2) make the decision to do get it despite it being illegal/immoral. So, probably 5% of the US internet population. Ignoring the domestic side of this (since you keep bringing that up despite all indications being that none of that will be included in the bill), how else could you stop overseas pirating of copyrighted materials? You can't go after the source, so you have to go after the means in which people access the source.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) That's the thing, it works for them. They play good defense without fouling, don't turn the ball over, and take high percentage shots. Illinois has the athletes to ram it down opponents throats. The turnovers are certainly the difference. I think it all comes back to Weber being from the Keady school of coaching from the 80's - we run a system and if you don't play well in it, tough s***. As I said last night, I am officially done defending the guy. I've excused the relapse in recruiting following the NC run (which has been fixed...at least for a few years). I've excused the fact that he got some good players who just didn't have the right mindset to play high-caliber Big Ten competition (McCamey/Davis/Tisdale). I've excused the fact that he's gotten unlucky at times (the injury to Frazier on a hot Illini team the day before the NCAA tourney started; the debacle of Jerome Richmond, etc). But no more. This loss, and those that preceded it, is absolutely inexcusable. Penn St was without two of its starters. They had about 10 people in the stands. You have a lottery pick for a center. You have a Big Ten freshman of the year winner. You have a guy that just dropped 43 on the top rated defense in the country. And yet you lose. You go 11-12 minutes without a field goal. You go something like 17 minutes with more turnovers than field goals. I mean at some point a coach would call a timeout and start drawing up set plays if s***'s not working. But he refuses to do that. It was painfully obvious that Sam just doesn't have the quickness/jump that he had at the beginning of the season. He wasn't even close on the NBA three's he was throwing up. He couldn't get past anyone, and he was getting beat on the defensive end. Even if Abrams is terrible inefficient, at least he gives you effort. Seems like the new AD is well aware of the fans' opinions of Weber, so hopefully something will happen if they continue to be mediocre.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 07:44 AM) As for the posters who refrained from talking smack.... Howard isn't going to be able to convince these players Illinois is the place for them anymore. Not only is one of your most talented players in Henry not playing, Illinois runs the worst motion offense I've ever seen. How do you struggle to score 50 points, multiple times per season? Wisconsin has a bunch of games in the 50's too. Hell one game they scored 41. It's just the style of play - use the full shot clock to get a good shot. Unfortunately for Illinois it's just pass-pass-pass heave up a contested three pointer.

I can't believe Henry isn't getting more playing time. He was one of the best scorers coming out of a pretty solid state of Illinois class.

Get Weber the f*** out of there. I'm so tired of defending his dumb ass. Call timeouts and get some set plays if your moron players can't run your offensive sets on their own. This is an embarrassing loss. Completely inexcusable.

Good thing Illinois had like 8 days to prepare for this s***fest. And Leonard fouls out.

Get Sam out of the f***ing game. He and Griffey have absolutely no business being in these games. How many bricks will it take to get pulled?

OMG. Over the back lost rebound, then a foul. WTF Illinois. Do they even realize what how big this win is?

Again, typical Illinois. Leonard unguardable this second half, so let's go away from him in the most important part of the game to get an air ball fade away jumper a foot inside the 3 pt line.

need a couple baskets here. Get the ball to Leonard.

I would immediately bench every single guard that misses Leonard when he has position. It happens at least every other possession. At some point I gotta believe it's beyond Weber and it's just his players being morons.

God I miss the days when Illinois would just blow out s*** teams. f*** this use the clock for 35 seconds on each possession. Let them run and get some f***ing rhythm.

Letting them hang around, this is why we lose 1-2 pt games to Penn State.

I see Illinois spent a lot of their off week working on that post feed. Would help if Leonard was on the right side of the court every time the guards reversed the ball.
