Why aren't they tested/calibrated before actual votes are cast? Seems like a no brainer.

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2016/11/08/...-head-to-polls/ How is this even possible? Why would the voting machine have such a feature?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) No need to the other way. Republicans play by the rules. Democrats cheat. This election is rigged. Trump is so great, he may win anyway. Your party gave every advantage to Clinton to beat another candidate in the primary. Throw rules and fairness out the window when it comes to either political party.
-
Wait, are they competing campaigns trying to win!? Color me surprised! Welcome to American Politics. I'm not saying it's a moral decision, i'm saying it's smart one on their part, and it is. And if Clinton did the same s*** none of you would have a second thought about it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Trump has said get out and vote, yet when people do just that, he sues. If you are in line when the polls close, do you not think you should be able to vote, or does it totally depend on who you are voting for? If you're in line they should absolutely count and this should be dismissed. If they have some evidence that people were allowed in line after 7pm and those people cast their votes, they should not be. We have rules for a reason. This isn't 'Nam, Smokey. edit: oof, messed up the name on the quote. Long night with the newborn.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) It's dumb because it's both state and federal law that anyone in line when the polls close gets a chance to vote. This lawsuit is already being mocked by Clark County itself and will got tossed quickly, but it sure does make Trump look like a sore loser before the first state is called. I'm sure they're going to contest that people voting at 10pm arrived after 7pm. I guess we'll see, not a lot of details out there yet edit: and again, this is the 1st step to preserve those ballots in case there is a future challenge.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Donald Trump is such a f***ing loser. FWIW, they're suing to keep those ballots they feel were cast after 7pm separate from other ballots in case there is a legitimate gripe. Given that Nevada is a close race, that seems like a prudent move on his campaign's part.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) No one wrote Trump was lying about the Belichick letter. There was question about Brady because his wife did say they weren't backing Trump. But I don't think even Trump would lie about that, so I imagine Brady did vote for him. ? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=3444169 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=3444175

A few pages back someone said Trump was lying about that Belichick letter. But it looks to me like the reports say it's true. http://thebiglead.com/2016/11/08/bill-beli...ump-per-report/

I went with: yes for the constitutional amendment. I thought about the catastrophe hypothetical but figured they could do some make-em-up accounting to find money in an emergency. I like the idea that they'd be held to standards on how to spend money. And our roads are s*** in a lot of places. Voted for Gary Johnson. Obviously couldn't vote for Trump or Clinton (douche and a turd) and while I think Johnson's an idiot too, I know he's not going to win and it's a vote for a 3rd party candidate that can only help with exposure. About the only positive I could think of in the general. Voted for Kirk and Munger. My wife and I have met Duckworth and she's a miserable human being. Munger is not connected to Madigan which is an easy choice for me. All of the judges I didn't vote for or against except the ones I have appeared before. If they were an asshole I voted no. If I liked them they got a yes. It's f***ing pathetic that the list of 30 or so are nothing but democrats. Also voted yes consolidating the recorder of deeds. Read somewhere it would save a million or so a year. Every little bit helps. My polling place was fine except for the 1-2 napoleon election judges. I voted electronically for the first time and immediately regretted it. They only had 2 machines so it took too long to wait for people to finish. I thought it was funny that the machine is electronic and you vote on a touch screen, but at the end it actually prints your ballot and makes you review it before submitting it. Also, the machines are all clearly from 1993. Saw a lot of 24 pin connecter-type wiring equipment in there. For something so important to this country, how do we not have a more up to date voting system? edit: i should add it took about 40 minutes but i was 4th in line so it should not have taken that long. We have a dual precinct polling location so people in front of me for my precinct spent 5 minutes with someone looking up their information only to find they needed to be at the other precinct table.

Reading Sepinwall's review, he makes a good point:

I'm still not sure what to think of Westworld. It's beautifully shot, i'm engaged on a "wtf is going on" level, but....I dunno, something is missing. There's been little character development, so i'm not sure who i'm supposed to be rooting for/against. I don't know anything about the main, non-host characters except for Ford, and really there i'm not sure what we've been told. He's got a God complex and wants to find out what his partner did 30 years ago. Beyond that I have no clue. What are Bernard's interests, for example? MIB is the only person we know that has a goal (the maze) but who knows wtf the maze is, if anything. And i'm still not sure how the park works, which is still sort of bothersome. We keep getting these episodes where Delores is talking to William or whatever, and then it cuts to her being interviewed. That has to be on a different timeline. Same with the prostitute. And her storyline is weird because it seems like that whorehouse is a common stop for all the guests, but if she's being shot every night and fixed, wouldn't guests have a period of time where she's not around? Do they use doubles? I wouldn't think so if the point is that the hosts are remembering things. I was also confused about one timeline - a few episodes back Ford goes with Bernard on a walk and they go to a new area Ford is cooking up and it shows a church. Is that supposed to be the same church as the one we saw in the last couple of episodes that Delores is having flashbacks about (with the girl who drew the maze in the dirt?) If so, wouldn't that mean that the Ford/Bernard conversation actually happened in the past, and the storyline with Delores and William was in the present? But how does that make sense given that Ford has the conversation with the MIB? I'm so utterly confused. Lastly, holy s*** was that orgy scene overrated. I just caught the last episode last night (f*** the Cubs!) and I read a bunch of stories about it this week as if it was some big thing. It was all background dressing. Don't understand why that was talked about so much.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) False! In said trade they acquired the son of a Cuban immigrant, a Spaniard, and a black guy. Yeah but that's the "i'm not racist, I know a black guy!" response.
-
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) The example he used involved (NC Republican voter suppression) involved the specific targeting of black people for negative outcomes. Sure, and that had discriminatory intent, I agree (i'm not saying discriminatory results don't sometimes come from actual racist beliefs). But the vast majority of the time that people screamed racism with Obama, it had nothing to do with race. Even the birther crap was more about his religion and secret want to destroy America via terrorism (clearly nonsense), not that he was black. Will someone undoubtedly say something sexist about Clinton? Sure. Does that mean that when the Republican-controlled Congress doesn't want to work with her they're doing that because she's a woman? No. If she fails to get her policies enacted is it because of sexism? No. Will people still play that card? Yes.

Has anyone followed his first few games in NY? Is he sitting out for general soreness yet?
-
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) It's funny, when you replace "Obama" with regular black people, this is pretty much verbatim the NC GOP's justification for their vote suppression tactics. The way you guys throw around the term racism though it literally means anything that results in a negative outcome for a minority. Derrick Rose got traded? GarPax are racist. Obama can't get a SC justice confirmed? Racist. Lester Holt was interrupted by two rich white people? Clearly racist.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Is not voting on Supreme Court justices reasonable? That is not a liberal or conservative position. It's not and I hate that the GOP is doing it. But they're not doing it because Obama's black and they hate black people. They're doing it because he's a Democrat.
-
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) That's silly. Obama didn't face any opposition based on him being black, and the current election cycle demonstrates no racism or sexism in America whatsoever. I don't think he did face opposition because he's black. I think he faced opposition because he's a democrat with democratic policies. She will be treated the same way and liberals will of course blame it on sexism vs. disagreement with policy/position, because God knows there's no reasonable position that can be taken that isn't a liberal one.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) We don't know anything about these latest emails, though. So far the whole "scandal" is that Huma Abedin logged into her email on her husband's computer. I thought her entire email file, including her time working at the State Dept., was backed up on Weiner's computer? I don't think it's just a matter of logging into his computer. I think it was all saved on his computer.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) So, I don't have a problem with people being upset about these emails. Information that should have been protected went through a private email server, chosen by Clinton. She showed very poor judgment. That said... are the same people upset about it, also people who were upset by Condi Rice doing it? And all those emails that were deleted back then? Can't have it both ways. Did anyone know that Rice did it at the time though (I also would have been upset to hear that, but I didn't know). And then when people did find out, did Rice delete emails? And then after that, did she make up about 5 excuses and lie to people about why she did what she did? At some point it moved beyond the stupid mistake of having the private server and moved into an "i'm above the law/position" situation.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) Nobody is even supporting Trump. How long into the Clinton presidency will the "at least she's not Trump" card be played? One month? Six months? Two years? Will she be untouchable her entire term because of him? It'll be replaced with, "it's because she's a woman and you're a sexist!"
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) Remember when Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women and then over a dozen women including some teenagers came forward with allegations of improper behavior and sexual assault? BUT EMAILS!! Hey, 'member when we had a President who acted the same way and abused his positions of power to sleep with women? Yeah! I 'member!

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Does this stuff become FOIA available once in FBI investigation? Or only the items a warrant would allow? Definitely not DURING the investigation. Maybe after, after some heavy redaction (personal information, state security, etc.)

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Worth noting that by everyone's account other than people actively in the Trump Campaign, the Clintons have been as forthcoming as technology allows in handing stuff over. Right, it's not like they delete emails or anything...
