  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) You are making the assumption that these were done for trustworthy reasons. I do not believe that. Not for a second. Especially because none of the decisions made were in a particularly brave political stance, in fact they ALL were made towards the politically favorable stance. That just screams red flag, not change of heart. You're telling me this person isn't 100% authentic?! You can almost read her mind: "what the f*** is going on here? Oh God, she's grabbing my hand. Keep your composure, keep your composure! Look moved but not TOO moved. Ok, ok. Nailed it."
  2. So I have my first job interview in about 8 years on Thursday. I applied sort of randomly to a different law firm for a similar job i'm doing now. I don't NEED it, but if it's a significant raise and I like the people/role I would probably move on. Since I haven't done this in nearly a decade, who has some pointers? What do you bring? Is it still necessary to bring copies of your resume and whatnot? Or is the "I can email it to you later" now acceptable? I've never done a lateral move interview before. It's always been entry level stuff.
  3. That's true, you both could be right.
  4. I thought the premiere was pretty fantastic. I read enough reviews to know that its going to take 2-3 episodes to "settle in" given the pretty large cast and multiple storylines, so I wasn't upset that after 75 minutes nothing really happened. Just a bunch of set up.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 30, 2016 -> 11:39 AM) I'm more questioning the wisdom of selecting Westwood as a captain's pick instead of someone like Russell Knox. Experience is great and all, but you still have to be good at golf. Westwood is not the same player anymore, but he is buddy buddy with Darren Clarke. Maybe Westwood brings in an audience? I dunno, same sort of pick as Fowler. Fowler was not deserving but he's in because everyone likes him and he's got a big following with young fans. Bubba was more deserving.
  6. I'm questioning the wisdom of pairing Westwood (aging player not on the top of his game) with Pieters (good young player but his first experience at the Ryder Cup). Why no put Pieters with someone like Rory and give yourself a chance in 2 matches v. basically throwing up the white flag in the match against Johnson/Kuchar?
  7. I don't think this is ALL political. You're going to see a big action against SA soon. Whether they can prove it or not is another matter. Jurisdiction is provided in the law btw. And the theory is that will seize foreign assets to pay. But you're right, what happens if they don't respond. There's no one to haul into court unless you go grab an ambassador maybe?
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) Hmm cant find it yet, ill keep looking. The bundle I was looking at was on Amazon, 2 controllers and BO3 for 285 Here you go: http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/accessories...9456&dgc=CJ
  9. Anyone else watch Penny Dreadful? I'm starting up season 3. The show is (1) one of the best looking shows on TV, (2) has a great score for its opening credit sequence, (3) is entertaining as hell, but Christ do I get lost when I watch it and try to figure out what the hell is going on and why.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) Dammit, PS4 prices have fallen, need.to.pull.the.trigger According to Kinja Deals, Dell has a bundle with black ops 3 and nba 2k17 and a 75 gift card for $300
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) Why do you think black voters overwhelmingly reject Republican candidates and policies across the country? Combination of terrible candidates over the years saying stupid anti-minority things and having a minor, but vocal, racist contingent of the party that unfortunately is misconstrued (and purposefully marketed by Democrats) as speaking for the entire party. I'm not ignoring that is a huge component here. But in places like Chicago, Republican voices are not heard. They have no platform because of the strong Democratic control. Rauner got like what, 7% of the black vote? And he was one of the more moderate candidates on the Republican side the state has had in a while. And again, he campaigned on a platform of we're going to make the state better for everyone by fixing corruption and waste. That's not an anti-black/low income agenda. That's probably the first step in any sort of policy towards fixing our financial mess.
  12. Man, that guy was the king of this city and was given every benefit of the doubt before he was traded. Talk about a lack of awareness.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) Do you even realize how condescending you sound when you speak about other peoples issues? First of all as I said previously, it can be worse. So when you start "It cant be worse", you show a complete lack of understanding of their issue. Second, you have no connection to the inner city, so there is an actual legitimate question of if you even know what they are looking for. So again, it comes off as a hollow because it's someone else telling them what to do, as if they cant think for themselves. If they want to be Democrats/Republicans or whatever that is their choice. If you want to try and convince people to join your side, you should probably articulate how your side is actually going to improve their lot in life. Merely saying "its not good right now" does nothing. If anything it shows how little you think of them. First off, gmab. You're the one telling me that things could be worse. Yeah, they could be, but they're also really bad for a lot of low income people in this city/county. Perhaps i'm wrong, but I doubt your typical black Chicagoan is happy with the status quo. They want to see improvement. They want better schools, lower crime, more job opportunities, etc. These are things promised by their elected officials time and time again and it has not been provided. I've only lived in the area for 12 years, but I haven't seen much improvement in any of those areas. I continue to read/see the same types of news stories and the same demands by the voters around election time. Second, I'm not telling them what to do. I'm simply asking why the same people are voting for the same types of candidates. I don't buy, like you guys do, that as a basic premise that Republican policy is automatically a failure. Yes, the national party has left a lot to be desired when it comes to minorities, but that doesn't mean that the ideas promulgated by Republicans generally aren't good for low income communities. As NSS pointed out, it's the Republicans who want to fix the financial crisis this state is in, caused mostly by Democrats in Springfield and Chicago. If we could stop wasting money, we could maybe put that money to good use.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) Just got Shadow Complex for PS4 and my god the game is awesome. I really enjoyed that on 360 back in the day.
  15. Yep, you're right guys. Why try anything different. Dem policies are totally working. At least they aren't slaves! Could be worse!
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) Running on a platform to solve the city's issues doesnt seem like a problem to me. What's exactly stopping those things from coming to fruition? Or were they just flat out lying in your opinion? I dunno, but it's not Republicans! That's the point.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) Yeah, that's a huge component of it. The whole "welfare queen" myth and everything. Those people get all that free goody stuff, us people are just trying to scrape by and get hardly anything from the government at all. Yeah, no one's saying that here. We're saying that blacks vote for Democrats and their position in society has not changed for decades. So why do they keep voting for the same types of people promoting the same types of policies that don't work or are never enacted.
  18. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) I swear to God I answered this like 3 different ways already. lol are you thinking black voters in Chicago are big fans of Rahm Emanuel? Because no no no no no NO. "Because they live in the City and are Democrats" is not an answer to "why do blacks continue to vote overwhelmingly democratic when the Democrats aren't helping them." And no i'm not thinking they're fans of Rahm. But 60% of them voted to re-elect him. And come time for the next election we all know another Democrat with the same promises he made about education and crime will get the vast majority of the votes.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Rand Paul is opposed to the public accomodations provision of the Civil Rights Act. His outreach to the black community hasn't exactly gone well in the past either. Going on about black people voting for Democrats because of "free stuff" is insulting. Not recognizing that is exactly what's meant by conservatives not listening. Decriminalization in this state was in the works before Rauner was elected, and he forced it to be weaker than it otherwise would have been. The Obama administration has recently made multiple moves at the federal level regarding imprisonment policies and has deprioritized federal enforcement of low-level drug crimes. That's bulls***. Those are literal campaign promises made by Democrats they vote for. We're going to give you more money for schools, more money for housing, we're going to stop crime, blah blah. They promise "stuff" and they don't deliver the "stuff."
  20. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Yeah, this exactly. Like the way they have built public transportation in Baltimore. We'll build highways that are good for getting OUT of the city, and fine, we'll build public transportation, but only if it's a park and ride so *they* can't get out here where we've moved to. It's not a coincidence that Chicago's trains go into the north suburbs and on the south side it only goes to 95th. 1) Which party did that? 2) Which party has been/is in power to address those issues? I guess i'm seeing a disconnect when you guys are arguing Republican policies aren't helping, but you're not acknowledging that at a state and local level, all the power has been, and continues to be, with Democrats. They either created the mess, continued the mess, or have the power to address the mess but don't/haven't. Ok so Republicans on a national level have pushed against increasing the minimum wage. What prevented Chicago, Cook County and Illinois legislative bodies from ok'ing minimum wage increases 10 years ago versus 2 years ago? You need public transit money? What's preventing those same bodies from getting it? Same with education. It'd be one thing if Democrats didn't control the government in Illinois at basically all levels, but they do. So what's the excuse? I ask again, why is it so wrong for Republicans to ask blacks to give them a chance given that what they've got over the last 40-50 years isn't working/hasn't worked.
  21. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) Republicans could try actually talking to black voters and finding out what they want and how they want it done instead of telling them what's good for them. Black voters tune Republicans out because 90% of the time they vacillate between talking down to them and being outright hostile. This is obviously a problem Repubs have, and for good reason give a segment of the Repub constituency, but it's also the nature of the two positions. Dems want to directly provide things, Repubs want to fix the system so that government doesn't have to. Which sounds more appealing if you're in the poorer areas of Chicago?
  22. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) Where are the Republicans in Chicago who would "fix" the numerous issues layered on top of one another that have piled up on the black community over the course of multiple decades? Seriously. They simply do not exist. There is no such thing. People seem to fail to understand this for some reason. Chicago is run by Democrats because Democrats live in Chicago. Additionally, municipal-level politics really have nothing to do with national parties. Repubs don't run because it's a waste of time. They have no chance. That's the point. There is no alternative option. So you've got a city and county with a myriad of problems, all created by democrats, and the fixes are all promised by democrats but never happen. So why is not ok to question whether democratic policies are working/are the answer?
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) So white people from rural ohio and iowa, what have they gotten out of voting republican? Are they stupid dumb idiots too? Your comment is basically that black people have no agency, they are voting for those policies because they think those are the best policies for city/state/country. They are pretty much like every other voters. If you want to criticize, perhaps we can get to the bottom of why white males are so certain that a racist buffoon is best to run the most powerful country in the world? Lotta farm subsidies, for one. Those rural people also generally align with the Repubs social policies versus Dems. I'm not saying they don't have agency. They obviously do. But as Trump correctly pointed out, every election cycle the Democrat for X race comes out and says they're going to fix schools, stop crime, create jobs - all directly for the benefit of black communities. And then once the election is over a lot of that talk goes away and none of those promises are delivered. I think it's a fair question to ask, why can't the black community try another way? In Illinois and Chicago for example, it's basically been democratic policies controlling the county/city for the last however many decades. An alternative republican policy isn't even considered. Why not?
