QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) The Watch is fantastic. Really, the I Am Rapaport podcast is hilarious and amazing. Jalen & Jacoby is a must listen as well. Is that with Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan? If so, yuck. Those guys are awful. I'm a huge fan of Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell. Those were all great.

Hillary's IT person pleads the 5th, refuses to testify before Congress re: the email scandal. http://thehill.com/policy/national-securit...LHgZiiI.twitter Allows her supporters to continue to claim "no evidence!"

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 11:04 AM) Great. So let's criticize them when they do the wrong thing and give them credit when they do the right thing, not ignore them when they do the wrong thing and then question their motives when they do the right thing. This is sort of like praising Assange for releasing documents exposing corruption because, hey, that's a good thing! You're ignoring (1) everything else they've done, and (2) their actual motivation for doing it. You really think the NCAA cares about transgendered people?

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) As caulfield mentions, you aren't thinking of TV. They need CBS to be profitable to get huge deals in future. It's easy choice for them to make, plenty of states have stadiums. 0.0% chance companies like State Farm or Coke or whatever are going to pull ads for the NCAA tournament because the NCAA hosts one regional final or semi final or whatever somewhere in North Carolina where two of the top teams in the sport play. Zero chance. I agree that it was an easy decision to make because they can find another site to host the tournaments. This is the NCAA riding the PR train, that's all.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 01:24 AM) http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/kevin-ha...dium=socialflow Kevin Harlan with an all-time call right there. Ha, just came here to post this. That was amazing.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) Right, the thing about the NCAA is it is too morally corrupt to ever make moral stances, but, they do respond to money. I think this is a sign that hosting there would take a bigger hit due to PR than having things hosted there. Then throw in NCAA moral outrage. I have a hard time believing that keeping those tournament games would have cost the NCAA money. People aren't going to stop going to North Carolina or Duke games because of a law that doesn't affect 99.9% of the population.

I do agree with the NC GOP lady re: her comment on Baylor. If you're willing to remove your tournaments from the state, why not remove Baylor (or other schools) from competition?

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) If only somebody would do something to get people talking about this problem and maybe work towards finding a solution. Oh, here's one. Except no one is talking about WHY he's doing it, they're only talking about what he's doing.

Narcos season 2, through 5 episodes, is some good TV.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) "Doing something" forceful means pissing off China and probably sacrificing millions of South Koreans in Seoul, though. Yeah and I wouldn't mind that. How much of China's economy do we account for? It's time to start exerting some pressure on them to kick NK into gear. edit: obviously aimed at the first part of your post, not the second!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) The problem that this has been a situation that has been festering for a long time now, and what we are doing isn't working. It's a total kick the can down the road mentality there. There's no easy solution, but doing nothing and watching them continue to build more sophisticated bombs and missiles to deploy those bombs isn't a sound strategy.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) Not sure what you're getting at. He gave his specific reasons for doing what he did, when did he mention this as one of them? i'm responding to what I thought you were saying, which is that white people wouldn't listen to the message anyway. The flipside to that seems to be that his message was important for minorities and would be listened to by minorities. End of the day, whether he protested by kneeling or whether he just stated to the media his thoughts, neither adds anything to the conversation. He's not a big enough athlete to provide more awareness. And it's a problem that people are already aware of.
-
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) I mean, from conservative types and a loose assortment of white people who were never actually listening to the message in the first place, sure. That is to be expected. MLK even touched on this. So liberal types and minorities needed a bench player in the NFL to kneel during the Anthem to learn that police brutality is a problem that we as a society need to discuss?
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) What is a better way to protest? Do people really want roads being blocked and businesses being burned down? If he just said he's against police brutality it wouldnt have reached anyone. I don't know the answer to that. I'm just saying, you poll 100 random people and I would guess that 90% wouldn't have a clue about what he's protesting against other than some general anti-black/racism/discrimination complaint. All of the talk is about the protest, the flag, whether he's s***ting on the military, etc. We're debating the meaning and role of the Anthem, not police brutality. But truthfully i'm cynical any of these protests mean anything. He did it before anyone noticed and no one cared. He had to be asked why he's kneeling. Top stars of the NBA actually used words in protest and it didn't do anything. "We" praised them for speaking out, but that was about the only thing that came out of it. Raising awareness is one thing, but we all know police brutality is an issue and no one agrees with it. His protest didn't add anything to the conversation.
-
It's a s***ty way to protest because the act got more coverage than the message.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) I don't disagree with you and I think in general the consensus is this is very bad for Bondi because she had a lot of constituents who were harmed (moreso than NY I believe). She claims they never even investigated, which is crazy! This is her job. But, I have to say, the sudden donations from ivanka and her husband, then Trump, there's a lot more fire here than "Bill clinton's aide asks for diplomatic passports that were not issued so they could take trip to north korea to rescue two american hostages, which raises "questions" and "shadows" about access" Fine, it looks bad sure, but how is it different than reading between the lines of Whitewater, where everyone but the Clintons were indicted and convicted and one of the key players who refused to talk and was sentenced got pardoned by Bill? In the end, it's rich people in authority positions taking advantage, skirting the legal and ethical rules. Both are examples of shady behavior that borders on corruption.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) Wait, didn't Simeon kinda suck tonight? Holy f***, calm down NBC. For a 7th round rookie who hadn't thrown a single pass in the NFL, going against the top team in the league (or top 3 at worst), on national TV for the first game of the season? I'd give him a solid B+. He didn't make too many mistakes, made some tough throws and some creative throws. And led 2 late 2nd half drives for scores. Yeah, Anderson was the key, but still. If you're Denver you gotta be excited that he played as good if not better than Manning last year and he's got way more upside going forward.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 09:42 PM) It'll be hard to ever top Nixon. The mam was insanely paranoid and used so many government functions and on top of that his own private goon squad to go after his enemies. Plus the whole illegal war in Cambodia and Laos thing. What do you guys think about Trump bribing the Florida AG to drop an investigation into his scam Trump university? How does that rate on the corruption scale? He gave money to a candidate who later decided against her state joining an ongoing legal case against him. Do you have direct evidence of corruption, or is it possible she didn't think Florida had standing to join (I'm asking seriously, I don't know the specifics about why she decided not to join)? That sounds an awful like the "read between the lines" deals that the Clinton's have often been accused of but you think didn't happen because there's no direct evidence.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) This is nothing groundbreaking, but it has everything to do with the lesser of two evils. If given the choice between someone I have a general dislike and distaste for, and someone who I genuinely fear causing WWIII, I'll choose the former every day and twice on Sunday. That said, I can barely stomach the state of American politics these days and avoid them at all costs. +1

I'm pretty upset with AT&T. I ordered 2 Note 7's on 8/31 and took advantage of a buy one, get one free promotion that ended the same day. I received a confirmation email confirming my order. The same day the rumors about the recall came out, and within 24 hours of my order I got a second email stating that my order was pending and that I needed to call them or it would be cancelled. I called and talked to someone who had no clue what was going on and all she could tell me was that they could not process my order and that it would be cancelled within 7 days. I told her I didn't want it cancelled and she said at best she could refer me to Samsung. So I wait a couple of days and try another person by phone. She tells me the same thing; they can't process the order because of the recall. I said that's fine, I just want to make sure that I get my buy one get one free promotion once the phones are back in stock since I put my order in on the 31st. She said no, because the order never fully processed. I said that's not my fault, that's your fault, I did everything I needed to do to accept AT&T's offer (trying to lawyer her). She of course being a customer service phone rep had nothing else to say but that she could't do anything about it, like give me a rain check, and said sorry. I told her screw it, i'm leaving for Verizon and hung up. It sucks too because i'm getting a sweet 20gb/month deal for 2 phones for cheap ($115/month total after taxes/fees). I don't want to leave, but AT&T has had some super s***ty customer service ever since the DirecTV deal. They screwed me on my internet plan too, forcing me change to Comcast.

That Commander in Chief forum just epitomized what an awful, awful election this is. Career politician robot who has sold her soul v. complete moron. One thing that depresses me is that for as dumb as Trump is, there are a few general viewpoints or at least perspectives he has that a competent politician really could have run with to change politics in 2016. Trump was asked last night about his knowledge of ISIS and his ability to be the President (e.g., will he be ready from day one). Of course he went the narcissistic route and touted that he knows more than anyone, but he could have used that as time to speak to the people of this country honestly about the weird expectation voters have that the President is or should be an expert on every issue. He could have answered honestly that he isn't an expert on healthcare, on terrorism, on the economy, etc., but that no President is and anyone claiming to be is a liar. He's going to assemble the experts to advise him on the state of X. The President is an executive. The role is a manager. You delegate tasks, you have experts advise you on the best positions, and then you make the best decision possible. That would have been such a good answer but of course he's a f***ing moron so that's not where he went with it.
