QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) God, i miss MVP Baseball 2005. Without a doubt the greatest baseball game ever made. Ya know, as much as I loved that game, I have to believe that at this point it would be absolute crap compared to the show 08 (the last one I've purchased). The graphics would be terrible, the movement of the players would be more unrealistic, and the controls would be unbearably slow and unresponsive compared to what is out there now. At the time it was the greatest, but I dont think it could compare anymore. I haven't gotten 09 yet. Anyone else have a review of it? The demo seems fine. I don't really feel like dropping 60 bucks on an updated roster from 08.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) See, that keeps throwing me off too. Its totally crass humor and then all the sudden they try and humanize kenny powers. At least Kenny Powers isnt buying into what they are selling him Yeah but I think it works. It's not like he's a character trying to be funny. He's just a dick to everyone, thinking he's still the Man. That's where the funny is.

How are you guys not loving this show? He's hilarious. I was a little suprised at how it becomes serious at times though. Still, solid A again for me. With FotC HBO has a good solid hour of comedy.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Krabbenhoft is a SR and Bohannon and Hughes are JRs. aight, well they're still better than their record indicates. That's a team I would not want to face in the big ten tourney or the ncaa tourney. -

Tried to throw it away with some dumb turnovers, but a good win nonetheless. That Penn State loss is going to bite us in the ass if we beat MSU. This was a game I was expecting to lose. I still think those that think the big ten is overrated are wrong. OSU and Wisky are good examples of teams that can beat a lot of really good teams but maybe are too young to be consistent. I dont think the big ten has a championship team, but i can see 2, maybe 3 getting to the sweet 16 or elite eight (obviously depending on the matchups). -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Thad Matta has really made himself into one of the worst in game coaches in the Big Ten. He needs to realize when his matchup zone is a bad strategy against a certain team. I think he still thinks Greg Oden is anchored under the basket. You'd think after about 8 open flashes by Davis that Thad would change up some strategy, at least to confuse the illinois players a bit. I think he went man for all of 2 seconds in the first half. Pretty typical Illinois game here. Getting whatever they want on offense and playing good defense. They're just hitting shots today. -

If the school chose not to kick him out, I think its fine he kept him around. He tried to give the guy a chance at a good life after making a huge mistake. I don't see a problem with that. I don't condone it, but far worse things have been done by college athletes. He wasn't stealing s*** from the school, he didn't kill anyone, he wasn't dealing drugs. And you sure he become a felon? Didn't he just get probation? Either way, I think he gave Smith every opportunity to prove that he was a good guy and that he made amends for his earlier mistake. It's not Weber's fault the guy was an idiot. Edit: ugh, some ugly english in my first attempt. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) They blame the refs, win or lose. Another staple of Weber is always claiming someone was sick/injured after a loss. Last night, he was saying McCamey was throwing up at halftime. If a guy is sick or injured, then don't play him! The Illini have to be one of the luckiest teams, with regards to health, all year in the NCAA. Not many other teams can start the same lineup in 25 consecutive games. Are you an Illinois State fan? You obviously have some jealousy issues. -

s***ty game last night by Illinois...another example of having no good go-to guy off the dribble dooming your team. It sucks McCamey is sick (if that's even a good excuse) but they should play through it. To not score 40 pts is ridiculous. This is worse than the MN game because at least in that game MN played solid D for 40 minutes. This game they got shot after shot after shot and couldn't hit anything. And for those that say the Big Ten is terrible, they still have the 2nd best RPI in the country. I'm not saying their great...i dont see any team getting to the final four...but when bottom feeders start beating the top you know that as a whole the conference is pretty good. The poster talking about Webers supposed bad acts is hilarious. Yeah it's really bad of a coach to give his players the opportunity to right their wrongs, ya know, instead of completely ruining their lives. Luther was supposedly involved in a robbery, though it was never shown he participated, only that he was there. Instead of kicking him off the team and ruining his life, he taught him a lesson and made him a millionare. As to the Jamar Smith thing, I dunno what else he could have done. To pretend that these guys aren't 18-22 year old college kids who are going to drink and make mistakes is ridiculous. He kicked him off the team for a year and told him not to f*** up again. He did, so he got booted. Name me a program in the country that hasn't had SOME issue with a player. He's playing with a team full of good sophmores and seniors with little to no offensive talent. In a year that they were supposed to finish at 5th or 6th AT BEST, he had them in the title hunt. That's pretty f'n good in my book. Starting next season we'll be getting some serious talent mixed with experience. And to whoever keeps posting that Illini fans b**** about the refs more than anyone else, stop beating the dead horse. EVERY team b****es about the officiating, especially when its well known the officiating sucks in college basketball. What's worse? Fans that b**** about the refs or fans that think their entitled to the greatest of great rankings because they were good 30 years ago? -
QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) Hamburgers don't have ham in them. Oh! I just learned this one the other night. It originated in Hamburg, Germany. But you still have wonder why they named it after the town.

The problem the big ten (and the officials that work the games) is that it wants to continue to maintain its uniqueness as the bruising 40 minute defense style of play versus the run and gun style other major conferences play. It's how to call those games. You either let the players play, or you call every little ticky tacky foul. I think most big ten fans don't care how you call it, so long as you stay consistent - i.e., a physical bump on a driving player isn't a foul with 15:00 minutes to go in the 1st half and it isn't a foul with :30 seconds to go in the game. Or as Weber pointed out last time they played Purdue, Kramer fouls 5-6 times ever possession and its considered "tough D." But another player who gets just the slightest of bumps driving to the hoop will get the foul. There's something wrong there. (and btw, i like how kramer plays. i don't consider his physicality "fouling" but i do have an issue with him being able to body up so much 30 feet from the basket but the big guys down low can't do that) For whatever reason, the last 2-3 years have been especially bad in this area. I'm ok with calling the game differently from game to game, but when it starts changing in the middle of the game you ruin the sport. It's like home plate umps in baseball. No ones strike zone is the exact same. All you ask if that they stay consistent and call pitches the same for each team for the entirety of the game. -

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) There is no such thing as a Big 10 ref, they rotate. That is why all of us complain about Ed Hightower. I am not bragging about KU, i just think they would slaughter Illanoy. Ok fine. The officials that work Big Ten games suck. That better? -

I'm not blaming the refs for anything. I think it's pretty clear that all season the refs in the big ten have sucked. They don't call anything consistently from one game to the next, let alone one minute to the next. That's my complaint. And IMO Hummel is the most overrated player in the big ten. There are at least 10 guys in the league right now I'd rather have. Wake me up when Kansas actually plays (and wins a game against) someone good. -

Another national big ten game, another terrible job of officiating. The last three drives: jackson (and 1 - not a foul), frazier (a foul- no call) and mccamey (and 1 - not a foul). Just terrible. I'm not even asking for fouls to be called or not to be called, just a little consistency. Purdue and Illinois are essentially the same team. Good defensive teams with no go-to guy on the offensive end that can be a difference maker. It also hurts when the best defenders are no threat offensively (Frazier/Kramer), the bigs are too small to bang down low (tisdale/johnson), and the one player that can be a difference maker falls asleep a lot (mccamey/moore). Everyone else is just icing on the cake if they do something good. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Ive never been a fan of Meacham, and was really surprised how well he contributed early in the season, but its been clear that he is in a major slump and/or isnt good. As little as Legion has proved himself to be all that much better, I think he needs to get the majority of minutes over Meacham. Legion has the chance to be the best shooter on the team, and we need him desperately to step up into that role. the problem is legion is completely lost on the defensive end, whereas meachum actually plays some good D. if he could just hit one f'n shot though. geesh. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 07:44 AM) Loved seeing Duke get exposed as a fraud last night. In order for Duke to play as an "elite" team this year they literally need everything to go perfectly. Duke will be lucky to make it into the sweet sixteen again Or to play at home where they get every call in the world. Here's why Duke wins a ton of ACC games and normally does very little in the tournament (i dont consider two to three wins each year doing much of anything when they have a one seed and play in north carolina for the first round nearly every year): 1) the rest of college basketball doesn't play the flop BS that Duke always gets (along with the other calls they always seem to get and/or not get, depending), 2) ratface relies far too much on guys that can shoot the 3, which is great until you have teams that can defend and/or you can't hit those shots, 3) They STILL don't have a big man that can really compete at the top level. Anyone else think the ACC is slightly over hyped? I'm not saying that UNC, Duke, Wake, and Clemson aren't good teams, but ESPN would have you believe this is the greatest conference in the history of the game. I hate UCONN, but even I don't think they're getting enough attention (though its finally starting). Also, thanks Mizzou. A big win makes the blowout win by Illinois look even better. Speaking of, really tough game tonight up in Madison. I give us about a 30% chance of winning that game, and that's probably too high. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) GTA 4 anyone? MGS 4 too. I think all of the review sites lost their credibility a bit with me after they gave both of those games 10/10. Both were great, but both suffered from some nagging issues (on top of the fact that no game is perfect). Unfortunately killzone has had so much pub, and for so long, that i just dont think they can meet the expectations. Basically it has to be the best looking game with the best fps controls/style of any game before it. That's pretty ridiculous.

Agreed on the RE:5 demo, which sucks because Re:4 was one of the best games of the last few years. Supposedly there will be an option to change the combat controls so that you can run while aiming (ala gears). I didn't see this option on the demo though. I also agree that the AI on your partner is terrible - she always seems get in the way, which gets annoying after a while. Hopefully they take the feedback from the demo and tweak the game before they release it. I've been trying to avoid all reviews for Killzone. I don't want to be let down from unattainable expectations.
