QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) Who are the 2 lottery picks? Gordon and ? I really doubt White goes in the top 15 (thats a lottery pick right?) And Jenks, How can you say Indiana wont finish 1st or 2nd, your just an idiot. No one could possibly see any holes in that team. (lol) And I think Illinois may surprise some people, but surprise equals finishing 4th ahead of OSU. Wisconsin is better than last years team, just they dont have the name recognition of Tucker. And honestly watching the Badgers this year, Im glad Tucker is gone. He was great for Wisconsin, dont get me wrong. For a few years he was the man, but the Badger talent keeps getting better and Tucker was a tweener. He was to small to really be a paint player (where he was most effective) and did not have the shot to be a dominant outside guy. He found his points, but often Wisconsin would just force the offense through him. There of course is also the chance without a go to player like Tucker, Wisconsin will fall apart. But hey, Ill let some one else come in here and say that. My bet is White doesn't get drafted at all in day one. He's not that good. People are trying to jump on this Indiana bandwagon because of Gordon and a new coach. I just don't see it. As was stated earlier, they are a small team and are going to get beat up when they play the big boys. I don't think they'll be a bd team, far from it. But I'll consider them (sorry for this soxbadger) the Wisconsin of this years football season - totally overhyped because of what they have on paper. As for Wisky - who is going to score points? I'm confident that Ryan is going to have another solid team - that's all he does is win - but I don't see where their points are going to come from. As for Illinois - my thinking is that even with all of the crap that happened last year (just about everyone hurt, the dui's, etc) they still managed 23 wins, a close 4th place (should have been 3rd) finish in the big ten and an NCAA tourney bid (which they should have beaten v-tech but choked). This year they field an incredibly deep frontcourt with at least 4-5 guys, two guards that can actually penetrate and dish, and the team itself is healthy. So based on the fact that I assume they'll be better than last year, I'm looking at 4th place in the big ten as the worst case scenario, but a big win or two on the road and I think they have a shot at the conference title. -

DJ White is the most overrated player in the Big Ten. I think Indiana will be good, only because they have an unstoppable traitor in Gordon. The team is good enough to keep them in games, but Gordon will ultimately win it for them. My prediction: MSU ILL IND WISC PUR crap crap crap crap crap crap (and yes, this is based mostly on my own Illinois bias, though I do think, based on what I've seen thus far, they are going to be better than most predict) -

Top three: McCain Thompson Romney, Tancredo, Hunter, Guliani (tied) Bottom Three: Richardson Hillary, Edwards Obama (tied) Gravel, Dodd, Kucinich (tied) (least amount of pts) From Select Smart: 1. Theoretical Ideal Candidate (100%) 2. Duncan Hunter (67%) 3. Alan Keyes (65%) 4. Stephen Colbert (campaign ended) (65%) 5. Tom Tancredo (65%) 6. Newt Gingrich (says he will not run) (61%) 27. Alan Augustson (campaign suspended) (30%) 28. Bill Richardson (29%) 29. Dennis Kucinich (27%) 30. Elaine Brown (12%) Lol, that really scares me that Alan Keyes is so high on that list. And I've never heard of Duncan Hunter. Looks like I'll be waiting for Gingrich to jump into the race. -
I picked up CoD4 for the PC - I have a mid to high range PC (ATI Radeon x1950 pro, 1 gb ram, dual processor) and it runs and looks fantastic. I think it's so cool because once you start a battle you go non-stop for 20-25 minutes. There's not much downtime. Very happy with my purchase. IBKILLIN is my online tag if anyone else has it for the PC. Anyone pick up Gears of War today? I was going to pick that up this weekend - the reviews have been pretty favorable.

Does it bother anyone else that big corporations are starting to promote how great they are because they are going (or have been) "green?" Case in point: NBC. All week long their logo has been all green and in just about every prime-time commercial segment there's an ad about all the great energy saving products and environmentally friendly practices they promote in their company. Yet, it's GE. Their products still pale in comparison to European products in terms of energy savigns costs. And really they just paint this completely unrealistic picture when they show famous characters planting trees in the middle of Manhattan. I guess I just laugh because at the end of the day it still comes down to money, not actually making the world better. They see a profit from promoting the fact that they are green - even though in reality they produce so much waste and continue to do more harm than good. I'd much rather see this self-agrandizing when a company builds plants that are eco-friendly or decide that they're doing away with X plastic and instead are going to use biodegradable plastic. I think Hyundai or Toyota (some Japanese auto maker) opened up a plant a year or two ago that's totally eco-friendly. I remember watching the commercial and thinking - that's great they are promoting their new plant and not trying to sell people on the fact that their entire company and its practices are perfect.

For those that did watch the Illini game last night, any thoughts on Kenny Battle? I dare say that this guy was better: He was soooooo bad. How do they not screen these guys? Just because you've got a name doesn't mean you can work as a commentator. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) My guess is that they tried intentional infliction of emotional distress and lost, because that is more inline with what happened. Ive yet to see how they had a privacy right when they were availing themselves to the public. From the two articles I read this was count II and they won on both counts. And I'm not so sure on the privacy issue. I think its arguable they violated the privacy rights of the family. The Court has decided before that there exists a "right" to be "left alone" in certain situations. In Hill v. Colorado for example, the Court validated a state law that forced abortion protestors to stay at least 8 feet away from the entrance of an abortion clinic because of the rights of the clinics patients from being harassed. I remember another case too about protestors at a hospital where the Court essentially said there's a sound policy reason for keeping those people away from patients because of their need for peace and quiet to recover. They've essentially set up a balancing test between the rights to be left alone and the importance of letting the speech continue. EDIT: I would argue that a cemetery is like that of a clinic or hospital - what happens "inside" is private. I gotta believe that Maryland, like most other states, has enacted some sort of law against this - so long as its narrowly tailored and compelling (can't do it at or near a cemetery during a funeral would seem to be narrow enough) I think any court would uphold it. The amount on the other hand will probably be dropped - a lot. I read an article somewhere that said the church's assets are well under a million. I want to know how they afford their legal fees - from a small lexis search this church has had a lot of cases the past decade or so. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Its going to be really hard for an appeal court to uphold this decision. I dont know what happened, but 11mil in compensatory damages would be insane, so did they some how get punitive? With out the exact facts, it is really hard to comment, but I am some what perplexed by the decision. In public you have almost no right to privacy, so as long as these people were protesting in public, there is really nothing legally they may have done wrong. Sure it is sick behavior, but Im not sure what theory of law you could really say they broke. If your in public, how can your privacy be invaded? If the funeral service was in their home, and the protesters snuck in, then sure they have a great case. But if you are out in the open, its really hard. Its clear they were not on private property, because once your on private land you no longer can use the first amendment as a shield, because first amendment only prevents govt action, not private action. Therefore it had to be public land otherwise they would have just been thrown out and arrested when they did it. My guess is over turned at the appellate level. I haven't read any opinion either - maybe a state law was in play? -
lol, that was great. I liked how he "flew in" to meet all the hippies protesting the nuking of our imagination. "wwsshhhhhhhh"

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) I stopped reading right there. I would have an intelligent debate about this but obviously you are incapable of doing so. I find it funny that I need to past my love of IU yet you bring such objective terms as Samscum and frivolous "dirty for years" accusations. At this point, I don't feel the need to comment further, whether intelligent debates or not. Let's the games begin!! To each his own I suppose. Samscum might have been over the top, but "dirty for years" is entirely accurate. -
IMO, commenting on her clothing (being professional v unprofessional) and simply saying "you like nice today" is not enough. Had he followed it up with "and I'd hit that" or something, then yeah.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 11:53 PM) nope, not the same thing.......... stretch it how you want, but Sampson's actions were not NCAA rules violations. All other coaches are allowed to do what he did. He violated personal sanctions placed on him. There is a difference. If you don't get it ask the lawyers who did the investigation and the school why they had to do two separate reports to turn over to the NCAA. It's because they aren't the same. Try and keep up, will ya? No offense man, but you need to look through your love of IU and see what this is. Samscum is dirty - he's been dirty for years. You can call this a "secondary violation" if you want, but the fact is Samscum broke a "secondary violation" twice... in two years. How can you stick up for a guy who specifically says things like "I will never make impermissible calls again...this is the last time...no more" and then watch him as he lies his way out of BREAKING THE SAME RULE. They were trying to get around the technical rules of making calls. So Samscum can't call recruits - ok, have an asst call a recruit and then call Samscum on a 3-way. TECHNICALLY Samscum didn't dial the phone number, so its fine. But not only is this arguable (that he didn't make calls), it also totally skirts the purpose of the rule. How can you stick up for an institution that implements a "zero-tolerance" policy without coming down hard on him? And don't give me crap about their self-imposed sanctions - they don't hurt anyone, including Samscum or the program. I agree its a minimal infraction, but taken in context, when the guy has already been caught for it, he's essentially spitting the NCAA's face with this. They won't do anything because Brand has the balls of a chipmunk, but I hope Samscum gets raped in the press for getting away with it. Coaches are supposed to be role models - what kind of role model teaches that purposefully breaking rules is ok? -

two of the last three osi-ill games were really close. Last year it was a primetime national evening game. I don't think its a primer for osu-mich, I think it has enough of a draw on its own. And as for the Big Ten production value - can you honestly say that Comcast is better? I can't stand the ACC and PAC-10 games they produce - it looks very amateurish. I've been pretty impressed with BTN so far. considering they're working on what, their 12th week on the job? Take away Di Retardo from the expert desk and they'd be even better. -
I think the pink was a combination of part of the blue and part of the green, but they are now using the north-south tracks right by the united center, tracks that haven't been used in a while. So there's the added upkeep of that new X miles of track plus the additional costs in running the routes. In the grand scheme of things the loss (if there is one) on that section of the track surely didn't put them in the situation they are in now. One thing that could be effecting their bottom line is the two major overhauls of the brown and red lines and their stations - whether that was necessary (for safety) or whether it was a beautification project is up for debate. But yeah, I agree. I'm a chicago resident but I don't think joe blow down in southern illinois should be paying for a system that I use daily and they may use once in their lives, if that. I think we need to set up a zone map so that riders in the far away stations pay more. That wont solve the problem, but it'll help stop the bleeding.

I do think there's a failure in the process when a deal can't be worked out to fix a non-negotiable issue like massive public transit in the third biggest city in America. That being said though, CTA is to blame just as much as the state or the city. Even their new guy, who they try to paint as a perfect manager who inherited a problem, has made some BS mistakes. Why couldn't the CTA forecast this gigantic budget problem? It's not like they were 5 or 10 million off. Yet they decide to roll out an entire new transit line? Why now? We've lived without it for how long? I don't know the numbers, but I can't imagine that branch of the L is actually making money - not enough people use it. And really I don't think cuts are all that bad. I primarily ride the train, so I can't speak to the bus service, but there's no reason to run trains every 7 min in the middle of the day. Send one every 15 (except for rush hour)and cut half the costs.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) I really wish the election cycle was so short that stuff like this and Thompson not knowing some B level person quit, would not be news. When it drags on for a couple years, little stuff like this actually has time to be news. No way. It's important to know that Barrack Obama doens't wear a flag pin. That made my decision right there!

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:34 AM) Beat GH3 on Medium, I enjoyed it. Its catching A LOT of flak because I guess people hate change, but the Battle modes to me are real fun. You could really hear the Rage/Audioslave sound in the Morello battle. As for The Devil Went Down to Georgia.....wow.....I thought my hand was going to fall off after playing that, AND Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce right after it. Yeah I agree on the online battles - very cool idea. It took me like 10 tries to get it to work (kept getting "failed to connect") but eventually I battled a guy through 7 songs - good time. What "change" are people talking about? Besides from a few graphical changes the game is the same, if not better in some ways. The pull off/hammers seem to be a lot smoother/easier in this version.

If this guy ever becomes president I'll move out of the country: http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dl...TPAGE/710260384 Seriously, this guy is on so much crack its not even funny. Why not promise the world to everyone? Why make anyone in the country work when they can get everything for free? Why promote individual autonomy and responsibility when big brother will help you along the path of life? If this guy became president and passed the sort of cocaine-induced legislation he wants to pass, I honestly believe he'll run the country into the ground. Say what you want about the screw ups of the Bush Admn, and there's a long list, but at least the country is still standing. And did anyone see Edwards on Bill Maher the other night? For a guy whose whole schtick in the entertainment world is to be anti-modern media and against the soft-ball crap they throw, he sure ripped edwards a new one - not. He lofted up soft question after soft question. All Maher does is complain and b**** about the media not being tough enough, and here he has a candidate he likes in front of him and he can't even ask him follow up questions asking for specifics. I like Maher and his show, but he really dropped the ball on that interview.

I hadn't heard of this case before: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8...;show_article=1 Honestly, I hate these laws. I really do. Every state has them, some better than others. How can the state leg not differentiate between someone who's 20-25+ having some sort of sexual interaction with an underage person and someone who is a year, maybe two years older. I can't believe they'd actually punish someone for consentual sex like in this case. But this kid got a TEN YEAR prison sentence for it. "Luckily" the kid only served two years, hardly worth the 5 min bj he got. Anyone who wants to run against the states attorney should tally up the complete waste of tax dollars used to prosecute this kid.
