  1. Really it comes down to the Phills and Braves, the only other team that could really jump in and make a splash is the Rangers. The Rays could if they were in contention but they seem to be leaning toward selling. The Rangers have the prospects to get a deal done and could top whatever the NL teams are offering, but seem more focused on pitching. The Pirates dont want to five up any prospects, the starting price would either be Alvarez or Tabata +, and the Pirates dont want to eat away at their core they are building. The Red Sox cleaned out most of their upper level prospects in the deal for AGon. They would have to include a lot of prospects to make a deal work. The Phillies and Braves are doubly incentivized to get CQ because not only do they get to add the bat to their lineup, they block him from going to their divisional rival. If DoM Brown is in play that will make the Braves up the ante, sounds now like Teheran and Vizcaino are the only two untouchables. I expect there to be a lot of back and forth until one team cries uncle and stops bidding. Really great time to be KW.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) I agree with this. They know his value will be a lot higher in February than in July and if he doesn't agree to an extension then he won't later. They'd be foolish not to trade him if that were the case. Danks value will be lower in February, as it stands the team who gets him has 1.5 years of control, a February trade makes him a one season rental add to that the other pitchers that will be on the market/free agents this winter and Danks' value now is as high as it will ever be.
  3. I love Danks....but I'd trade him in a heartbeat for the right package of players. Something like Gardner, Banuelos, Romine and another mid level spect, no mid level spect if they take Rios back (though we would still be on the hook for most of his $$). You then have two of your OF spots with young cheap guys in Viciedo and Gardner, you have your true lead off man in Gardner, and you have Banuelos who is probably ready for the rotation in 2013. Romine would be your C of the future and would also likely be ready in 13. This team could be remade into a bunch of young guys surrounding a couple vets (Dunn and PK) by 2013
  4. By his comments earlier in the week that there were a lot of teams rooting for the Tigers this week, it seems he has a lot his deals already lined up in case this team still didn't show any signs of life. With the reports that teams are sweetening their deals now, you wonder if KW is struggling to hold this together when the returns keep increasing. If Philly were to offer Brown and Biddle for instance, could you really keep Quentin? If the Yanks would give up Banuelos and Romine for Danks? That would be difficult for me to say no to in either case.
  5. Not sure where Gamel would play, he is best suited for 1B/DH. Has a tremendous amount of LH power but is a little too much like Josh Fields in the contact department. Dunn would probably as good of an option in LF as Gamel would be.
  6. Jim Salisbury from CSN Philly "The Phils have been aggressive in pursuing Pence and there are indications that they would be willing to include outfielder Domonic Brown in a package for him." The operative word there being package. This means that Brown is not off the table in any CQ trade, and package of CQ and Crain could really bring back a lot of talent.
  7. San Francisco just gave up Wheeler for a pure rental of Beltran, his contract states he cannot be offered arbitration. Seems like the price is going up. With Philly and ATL being the two teams most in need of a RH bat, and being divisional rivals, I think you could play that up to a pretty nice return for your All Star.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Dom Brown and a pitching prospect. You don't give up Quentin and Thornton without getting back a MLB ready part and a top 100 prospect Stark says the Phillies offered up Cosart, Singleton, and another mid level spect for Pence, so at least that if Thornton is going too. Maybe throw Biddle in the mix.
  9. Jayson Stark is saying that the Phillies offered up Jared Cosart, Jonathan Singleton, and another mid tier pitching prospect for Hunter Pence. Quentin is cheaper and has been more productive this year than Pence, but is worse defensively, but I would think a similar package could be had for CQ. Giving the Sox a solid bat in the system to replace PK and a starter for 2013.
  10. Rios is not untradeable, KW could have him gone in five minutes if he called up the Angels and offered to swap him for his former teammate. The question is what bad contract are you willing to take back in exchange for Rios? I still think Michael Young would be a possibility given that the Rangers want a CF so they can avoid the wear and tear on Hamilton, especially if you would send them some pitching as well. Young and Rios both had $40MM left on their deals, though Young's deal is a year shorter. That may be less of a possibility now with Beltre hurt but the Rangers have moved Chris Davis back to third so there is a chance.
  11. So who gets moved for Miller? That would put us at 26 on the 25 right?
  12. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Quick question would you do John Danks for Ivan Nova and Austin Romine? Maybe even toss in Laird, not sure of your 1B/3B position I do like Romine, but for Danks would need a SP with a higher ceiling.
  13. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) Ozzie says he will find a way to get Rios and De Aza in the linup....wow Ozzie just needs to go away Probably a DH Platoon with CQ and Dunn with Rios playing RF vs LHP.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Indians are hard after Beltran. Beltran won't accept a trade to the Indians per Gammons "Never mind that the Indians did offer to pick up all of Carlos Beltran's remaining Mets contract and give up a good player in return. The deal Scott Boras negotiated with the Mets for Beltran includes a no-trade clause, which Boras refers to as a "ring clause," meaning that if things ground to an end in New York, Beltran had the right to choose where best to go get a ring before entering the free-agent market, and Cleveland did not fit. 15. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) I see these guys moved before the deadline: Thornton Quentin Floyd Ohman Unless there is some super secret extension in place you can add Danks to that list.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) Not everybody likes Stewart nearly that much. And he's still a soon to be 25 year old in AA. Really, now that we're not all mad, this isn't a terrible trade though, although I still think it's bad. Hes already pitched in the majors this season and did quite well in his lone start. He was brought up to replace Drabek when he got moved back down. I would not read too much into the fact that he is in AA given the pitchers that TOR has at AAA coupled with the park that they play in.
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) Also KW says the Payroll is now such that we could do some creative things Creative things like picking up some salary to move Rios......I hope.
  18. Law has him #44 overall, good return for a salary dump. The industry remains split on whether Stewart is a starter or a power sinker/slider reliever, but I still don't see a good reason to remove him from the future rotation, as he's a four-pitch guy who can miss bats and get groundballs. Stewart will pitch in the low 90 mph range but touches 96, and his fastball has both sink and tail to it. His slider is his best offspeed pitch, tight at 83-87 with good tilt, and he commands the pitch well, throwing it to both sides of the plate. His changeup improved substantially as the year went on, 81-85, straight, but with excellent arm speed. His curve has good depth but he doesn't command it well and it's not as tight as the slider. He stays over the rubber before driving forward with a long stride, although his arm action is a little long in the back and he pronates relatively late in the delivery. His fastball movement has limited his control, and he'll have to work on cutting down on free passes, but there's No. 2 starter potential here, No. 3 at worst, as long as he can throw enough strikes.
  19. I'll take that deal. Stewart can slide in the rotation next season. He was ranked as the Jays #4 prospect by Sickels over the winter. 4) Zach Stewart, RHP, Grade B+: His stock has dropped a little, but I still like him. If he can't cut it as a starter he can close. Coop can fix him?
  20. So from the USA today story, we are not getting a prospect from TOR, StL is, we get Frasor and $10MM in salary relief. Sox must be getting all of Frasor paid for.
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Yeah thats great but they actually do some good believe it or not. Having a playing that just wings it because he doesnt give a damn is not what we need right now. Hes not just winging it, he uses an outside hitting coach, like a former White Sox great used to.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Didnt TLR come out yesterday and say Rasmus refuses to listen to coaches? Why on Earth would you want a player like that on your team? We already have something similar to that playing in CF. Because Greg Walker is out hitting coach.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) Brett Lawrie is the only name that would make me less than dissatisfied. They have a whole lot that would make me feel better. Wojciechowski, D'Arnaud, Gose, Jenkins, Alvarez, would all be good returns.
  24. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:40 AM) fwiw, Frasor's contract has a 2012 club option at $3.75M That is where the value is in this trade. You get a pretty lights out bullpen through the end of next season and dump money in the mean time. The minor leaguer will probably be pretty midding but the Sox needed to move payroll with attendance down and you move two excess pieces that you wont really miss down the stretch. This is not the blow up the team move that people were expecting, that will likely not happen until Sunday, if at all, depending on how the standings look at that point.
