  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) How many of those prospects have become above-average ML players? What does that tell you about our amateur talent acquisition? That all falls on the GM to employ the right scouts and draft and sign the right players then make sure they are developed. If that is not happening, which it isnt, that is the GM's fault.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) I dunno if the Reds are going to be looking to spend on that kind of starting pitcher this year. Worth noting is that the Reds have reinforcements for their rotation already available in Aroldis Chapman, and possibly Edison Volquez late in the year. You could be right, but Chapman is struggling to get through 5 innings on a consistent basis in AAA because of high pitch counts, so his control is in question especially when he will be facing more patient ML hitters. Volquez is the wildcard if he will be able to get back into form and if the Reds will still be in contention if they need to wait for him. Harang will likely be a FA at the end of the year as will Arroyo. B There are other teams that would love to have Danks, I just mentioned the Reds because they have the talent in the minors that best matches our needs.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) I hesitate to endorse any idea of dismantiling our starting pitching. Pitcing is what wins and followed by good defense and offense. But, if you do trade one I guess you go with the one with the most value. Is that Mark Buerhle? Maybe. I think it's between him and Floyd. Floyd's contract makes him more palatable to a team with limited finances, but MB has the history of two no-hitters, etc, etc. I am thinking the staff will get it turned around though. Question remains if it's to late for this year though The SP with the most value is Danks. One of the top LHP in the AL, young and under team control, and inexpensive. I think he would be a good match with a team like the Reds maybe in a package with Jenks or Putz.
  4. Really they both need to go. Ozzie has lost the team, his coaching staff has been ineffective in getting the struggling players on the roster to turn it around, and his perception around the league hurts the Sox when trying to bring in players. KW is responsible for the dearth of talent in the organization, having really no impact players in the farm, overpaying for vets that will cause the Sox not to be able to get fair value in return, and his unwillingness/inability to rebuild a team. The reloading or shuffling the deck only works if you are bringing in talent and KW really doesnt get the better end of deals very often.
  5. If AJ is traded now is Flowers even the guy who is brought up? Sounds like they liked Lucy enough while he was here, might as well platoon Lucy and Castro until FLowers figures it out. No need to bring a prospect up who is struggling and set him up for failure. I say give the other two time behind the plate until Flowers comes around and gets on a roll again. I will be very interested to see what the return for AJP will be, I am not enamored with a Catcher who cant throw the ball back to the pitcher, not sure how he would fit anywhere else on the diamond, but probably would be an upgrade on our DH production.
  6. The correct answer is both. Ozzie has never been a strong strategy guy and most of his effectiveness came from keeping players focused and motivated, his act has worn thin and he has lost the team. KW has not been afraid to make a big move, but his moves so rarely payoff. He has overpaid for production, the farm system is devoid of impact talent to help turn this team around. Time for KW and Ozzie to go and get someone like a team of Abe Flores and Sandy Alomar Jr to run the show.
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) We all know the Sox operate on a given budget and this won't change. The dilemma is that if you add money to the draft budget you need to take it fom elsewhere. Do you take 6 million off the MLB salary budget? Personally I would but then you will hear the complaints about not spending money on the MLB team. I think it is time to do exactly that. Take AJ's salary when it comes off the books and roll it into the development budget. Especially if we are picking closer to the top as I think we all expect to be next season. Those people that complain then turn around and complain about the lack of talent in the farm and lack of winning on the ML level, sometimes you have to tear things down to build them back up and you are not going to keep everyone happy.
  8. Austin Wilson finally goes, Cards will try to build a relationship and re-draft in 3 years.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) Sox pick Crayton Lee. SS College position player Another IF. Sox must be sold enough on their OF depth. I think it is more likely that this draft isnt really all that deep at the corner OF or the CI spots.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) So when do we get Wilson and Ozney? I'm amazed Wilson is still available for this long, thought some team would take a flyer. Oney is a douche. Anyone think that the fact they havent drafted Ozney is an ominous sign? Or is it just that he is more likely to go to college at this point?
  11. Anyone know what ever happened to former Sox pick Kyle Long?
  12. Going hard after MI guys it appers at this stage.

  14. Sounds like a real "grinder" MLB scouting report Summary: Wilson is the type of gritty college middle infielder who'll get plaudits for being a real "ballplayer." He knows how to play the game the right way and, despite some deficiencies in his game, always finds a way to get the job done. The type who plays above his tools, he wasn't performing with the bat the way he had previously in his Alabama career. That might hurt him come Draft time some, though there are always teams interested in advanced infielders who have the kind of attitude Wilson has.

  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Dodgers take another LSU player. Jesus. In order to save money they only sent scouts to LA this year.
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) Tigers taking Patrick Leyland, Jim's son. We should have scooped him up! Son or grandson?

  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) Isn't Austin Wilson basically Brian Goodwin now? The guy the Sox took last year in like the 17th round, but he went to UNC. I think so.
  21. If the Sox use the money they save playing it safe on Petricka to sign Grimes it makes both picks a lot better.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) Sox select Matt Grimes. High schooler. I love the Brewers pick in Morris. Jeff you know alittle more about him than I do. Grimes looks pretty good in his video looks to sit 88-92.
  23. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) They could easily afford both of them, just like the Sox could easily afford any draft pick they take as well.. it all comes down to if they actually will pay them or not.. The money has to come from somewhere, its not like there is an infinite supply of money for these teams.
