  1. With the uncertainity the talent available at 13, it would be great to go after a guy who slips for signability reasons, and there surely will be at least one. If you sign him, you get a high caliber guy, the more likely scenario is that you get to pick at 13 again next season when the draft is deeper in that area. Rather than taking one of these pitchers that project to being bullpen guys on the ML level, according to Laws/Scouts Inc evals, roll the dice and gamble on getting an impact player as there does not appear to be one available this year.
  2. How is this team going to get any better by trading only the guys with little value? Open for business means that anyone is on the block, the one exception would proabably be Beckham because of his current value in relation to overall potential. This team isn't going to get much better making the same type of salary dump deals KW has made over the last few years, we need to move the big chips to get a big return that will impove this team.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) He is a 1B. He played 3B all through the minors until he reached the majors last year and is playing 3B in AAA again this season. He played 1B because Young had moved the third. If you bring him in to play 1B you are blocking Viciendo with a player that is just as bad as Fields at hitting the baseball. He has no value to this team at 1B.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 17, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) They wouldn't give us Chris Davis straight up for AJ. Why not, becuase they're AAA team really needs him? Because they want a guy who can whiff 200 times a year and bat .210. I dont get the love with Chris Davis, he is like a lot of prospects the Sox have had, big power, terrible contact, shady defense at 3B. Maybe we can just get Fields back. I think KW should aim for a low level pitching prospect, they have a few guys that have a high ceiling but haven't really put it together that we could maybe hit the jackpot on. But to add another inept bat to this team doesn't make any sense.
  5. I like Sandy Alomar as a candidate. Catchers seem to have a little more success because they understand what goes into hitting and also are accustomed to handling pitchers. He has ties to the Sox. Has some coaching experience now with the Mets and Indians. He could be a great asset to have in mentoring younger guys, especially Flowers and Phlegey.
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) If he were, I'd think that he'd have the sense to shut himself down. This isn't some kid from a poverty-stricken family in South America who's playing for a big contract. I didn't get to see the game, but it's nice to hear that he had really good stuff after that first inning. I think it is a mechanics issue, not becuase he is injured now, but because he altered his delivery a little after being injured last season. I think he just needs a little tweaking and he will be fine.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) Yes. The Sox are going to play out this Kotsay/Jones thing for a while, and then look for something much better than Cust in June or July. I agree with that. Cust is a poor mans Adam Dunn, big power, decent at drawing walks, atrocious in the field. I think Kotsay/Jones will be fine in a limited role and can bridge the gap for this season. If that spot is what is holding this team back in June/July, KW will go out and make a deal. Cinci may have a 1B to spare by that point and be looking for some other pieces.
  8. Dye is not the LH bat that this roster needs, neither is Blalock with his low OBP. Much rather take a chance on Delgado at that money as a platoon guy to bat DH against righties and spell Paulie some at 1B. He probably wont be ready til the AS break, but it gives you a chance to see what you have in house til that time.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) IMO, if Mitchell stays this highly ranked next year, the odds are he's going to be gone. Yes, he has really great potential, but there's also a high enough bust potential on him (at least for now since he's still quite raw) that if KW sees he has a top 20 prospect that can be the centerpiece of a deal, he'll use it that way. I would normally agree, but as much trouble as KW has had trying to acquire someone in the mold of Mitchell that he is not going to part ways with him and start over again. I agree with the list, I think that Morels floor is high enough that it moves him up on the list, Viciendo has yet to show that he can put up the offensive numbers to warrant a CI position. Once he does that consistently he will skyrocket up the list.
  10. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Fangraphs absolutely adores Gardner. His defense, speed, and OBP make him quite valuable. Why would the Yankees want a 3b prospect? A Rod is 35 this year and has had prolonged injuries the last two seasons, by the time Morel is ready A-Rod could be a full time DH. I dont get people not wanting to move Rios to RF because they feel he will be overpaid there, he makes the same amount where ever he plays, and if we were to acquire Gardner our best defensive alignment would be to have Gardner in CF, Rios in right, where they are both top end defensively and a platoon of Jones/Kotsay in LF. Offensively Quentin will be in LF, but with our pitching having both CF and RF manned by elite caliber defenders is worth more than making Rios' contract look good.
  11. Would be another LH bat in the lineup capable of being a lead off hitter and came up with the Braves at LF before converting to 2B in the majors. Had a terrible year last season with the injury, but could be a guy to get on the cheap - like Putz - to have a bounce back season.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) I say HELL NO! For AG, I'd deal 3 of the 4 (Hudson is the guy I'd like to keep). I agree....no way. No sense in giving up all of your players with potential for one year of Halladay, which would blow up the budget even more.
  13. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Flowers and Wade Davis are 2 first round caliber players for sure. then id throw in Jayson Nix or CJ Retherford because they dont have a backup infielder and then maybe one more pitching prospect, maybe a Carlos Torres. Im sure they will get more than wade davis from the rays so this deal would make a ton of sense and Im sure KW has thought the same thing. Not sure why Toronto would want Flowers though when they have a similar player in J.P. Arencibia. Viciendo may fit better for them.
  14. Throw in Dionar Navarro to the Sox, who is going to be non-tendered by the Rays anyway. I can't see TB picking up Halladays salary without dumping Burrells though, so if the Sox take him they may be able to increase their rate of return and fill the DH spot for a season.
  15. Or it could be part of a three way deal where we send pieces to Toronto for Halladay and spin him for something to fill the remaining holes on the roster. Maybe part of a trade that lands him in Boston or Anaheim. There really is no conceivable way that this team has Halladay and Peavy on the roster on opening day.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) Doesn't it seem like a huge mistake for them to move him from such a valuable position though rather than trade him? I guess I could understand it more if the Cubs were an AL team, but given that Fox would have to play the field or pinch hit for them, it seems like he would have tremendously more value as a trade piece as opposed to trying to force him to a different postion which his skillset does not support. My guess is that it is their opinion he does not have the skills to be a major league catcher. The Cubs are about the worst team in the majors at handling young players, do not try to figure out why they do some of the ridiculous things they do as it can lead to a brain aneurysm. Fox would be a good bat to have, could play both CI positions, emergency C and possibly DH. He could probably replace PK's production from last season right now, at a lot lower cost - plus he still has some upside to develop.
  17. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) i want carlos delgado Nick Johnson
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) I'm not sure when he was switched, if memory serves me right there was only a two year window when they would have switched him because of Soto because Soto was a magical Iowa Cub who all of a sudden started hitting the crap out of the ball in the minors then his rookie year. However, watching some Cubs games I seem to remember Len and Bob basically saying it would be a stretch for Fox to play catcher at the MLB level consistently and it wasn't because he hadn't played it in awhile, more because he struggles back there. Fox has never been put at any position long enough to get any good at it, other than C, where he will not be able to play on a day to day basis. He could play LF, he seems to have the potential to play at least average at 3B, and could be an athletic 1B. He has a great bat. The Cubs are now without a closer, maybe a Jenks trade would net Fox and a couple other bullpen pieces that would free up some $$ and fill holes on the roster at the same time.
  19. Linebrink has kind of been an every other year player, one year he is not good the next he is, that was disgusied a little playing in Petco. I think he will bounce back a little this year and probably be more than acceptable as a middle reliever. He is paid too much money to use in a mop up role, if that is where he is going to best used, he might as well be DFA'ed to clear the way for someone on the farm to get a shot.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) We should just always draft the way we did in 08. Suck the year before so we get a high pick?
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Arm strength and other reports on his fielding. Fast isn't everything in the field Not everything, but it saves a lot of bases and allows less hits because the guy can get to the ball quicker. I still think that De Aza could hold the spot until June/July when Danks2 is ready, hopefully the Sox can find someone in the Rule V Draft that can contribute.
  22. I think that we could offer arb to Dotel, which will make him expensive, but he is the best of the reliever free agents this year. I would be interested in Bill Bray if he ends up being non-tendered by the Reds. If Dotel does not return Kelvin Escobar would be worth taking a chance on.
  23. I dont think I could stand watching his twitchy batting stance for a whole season. He brings potential lead-off ability and good range in the OF, can bat from both sides if he can remember how to hit. I would rather play De Aza in CF and use the money on Nick Johnson.
  24. I think Jenks is in the top 7 in baseball, and at times can be the best. All baseball players are streaky, this year Bobby had a bad year in terms of his overall performance. If I had to rank closers in terms of trade value: 1. Soria 2. Bell 3. Papelbon 4. Street 5. Broxton 6. Nathan 7. Bell 8. Jenks 9. Capps 10. Bailey By ability: 1. Rivera 2. Soria 3. Papelbon 4. Nathan 5. Street 6. Broxton 7. Hoffman 8. Jenks 9. Bell 10. Capps
