Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) It was his first start back and Maholm is coming back soon. Would be a overreaction to bench him at this point, considering the haul Hahn wants for Peavy. Pretty much anything worth having is in AZ now anyway. -

QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) I think Arizona is the destination. Heres to hoping Owings and Davidson are heading our way We've heard the Sox have scouted Delgado and Olney mentioned Skaggs today, but not sure if he was just speculating on that, so you would think a young MLB ready SP would be coming back. After that, not sure they will people able to pull off one of those two, let alone both. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) Just talked to my source, he confirmed that the Sox are engaged in talks with multiple teams about several players, Sox would receive minor leaguers and/or young major leaguers in return, money could also be involved. Deal could be announced in the next half hour or some time tomorrow. Heard it here first. Dont forget that the deal may be announced during tonights game. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) I would actually take on Ian Kennedy and Kubel if it meant a nice package in return. If the Sox received some combo of Owings, Davidson, Holmberg, Delgado, Eaton, I would gladly take those contracts. May be able to dump Kubel in August and if not just play him in the OF for the rest of season. Ian Kennedy is a guy that could definitely get traded in the offseason. Arizona pays Peavy's deal. We pay Kubel and Kennedy and also get 3 nice prospects. Maybe throw in Lindstrom as well. Sounds good to me. Keep Kubel and pickup his $7.5M option for next season to try and see if he can build some value. Its not like we have a ton of options to replace Konerko and Rios in the lineup next year anyway. After next season when he and done are gone you have $22.5M off the books and hopefully a FA pool that looks a lot better than what is coming this offseason when Chase Headley, Panda, Hanley Ramirez and Jed Lowrie are all available. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) That happens at once either a trade is made public, or once the deadline passes and certain players are still on the roster. Truth. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) And how do we know the Sox will throw in money? It seems Rios to Pittsburgh is held up by money. I think the posturing may have just ended, and the teams that want Jake Peavy now realize it's time to be serious. I dont think we do know that. That is why I was speculating that the Sox may have changed their approach. It could be that teams are done with smoke screens, but it seems to be more than that the way the scenario has radically changed. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) How has it changed? Previous reports were Sox were not interested in including any $$ in deals. And all the teams that were out because of $$ issues seem to have jumped back in. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) I don't understand how A's could pull this off unless they could find a team to take on money for them and uh, good luck with that. Maybe Sox are now indicating that they are willing to include some $$ to facilitate a deal. The landscape sure has changed in the last 5 hours. -

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) AZ would never do that. I would be ecstatic if we got Davidson, Owens and Holmberg. Makes no sense to acquire older players. AZ has to shed salary, dumping Kubel and Kennedy would let them take on the money owed Jake, it also gives the Sox some replacement players to keep the spots of who gets dealt. Olney is suggest Skaggs as an option now as well. Would love some combo of Skaggs and Owings or Davidson. All three could step in the lineup tomorrow. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Felix Heredia & Heath Bell? No thanks. Thats a solid righty lefty combo for middle relief.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Let's just say that if the end of the world happens and Hahn gets Skaggs, Davidson, Owens and Taillon for Peavy, Rios and Ramirez, then Hahn has a job for life here. Can't trade Peavy for Skaggs and Taillon. -
rios + cash for Heredia and Bell?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) Olney throwing Tyler Skaggs name into the pot now too. If that meant excluding either Owings or Davidson...no thanks. Sox are going all LHP rotation. Skaggs is a great talent, hasn't put it together on the ML level, but his raw stuff is there. Tremendous talent and would give the Sox a further position of strength to deal from in the rotation. -

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) If the A's are to make a deal for Peavy, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle sees outfielder Michael Choice as the potential centerpiece. Otherwise, they could add a reliever. GM Billy Beane says this is the "lowest trade inventory I've seen in years." Reactions? Agree, thats why player values are so high in trades, because there are quite a few buyers and not many players on the market. Supply and demand benefiting the Sox. Slusser can take Choice and pound sand. -

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) I like Towers as the guy we can get to overpay. He does have some major league ready pieces with not place to play them. Owings and Davidson should be up but are blocked by Hill, Gregorious and Prado for the forseeable future. -

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) I agree. Plus, Kubel and Kennedy are both guys who have shown success in the past, so its not of the question that they both remember how to play good baseball again next year either. I actually really love the idea of Kubel and Kennedy coming back to the Sox as throw ins to balance out cash in the deal (Overall, I think the D-Backs would have to add 4-5 million which is certainly doable). Could turn out to be moves that really help the team next year, and if they suck, it's only one year of Kubel and you can dump Kennedy. I think the D-backs can keep their cash and up the return in prospects. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:26 PM) Exactly. If the sox get kubel it's in lieu of sending money to AZ. Agree, and if he can hit like he did before he got to AZ you can flip him next summer for more pieces. Its a gamble, but rebuilding teams need to make gambles from time to time. -
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) I believe KC is on Rios' no trade list and I can't see us trading Beckham let alone to KC. Not sure what they even have left on the farm that would make a deal for Beckham appealing.

Knobler says Royals are looking at Beckham and Rios.

Danny Knobler @DannyKnoblerCBS 2m Royals still want to upgrade 2B, RF. Have discussed Beckham, Kendrick, but nothing close so far. http://cbsprt.co/19vj2Vw Royals interested in Beckham and possibly Rios.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Peavy and Alexei for Adams, Wong and a lower level guy. I like Piscotty. Maybe a one of the million pitchers the Cardinals have. I would like something like Adams, Jenkins, Kozma and Ramsey.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:49 PM) The guy mentioned they discussed Peavy and Ramirez. But if Kaplan is saying Rios is close, maybe it's all three. But I can't see the Pirates being that bold. I can't see JR signing off on the type of money that would need to go in that deal. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) The good news with a possible Rios trade is we should be able to sign a free agent outfielder to replace him. I think Choo would fill a ton of needs for us and would be a huge upgrade over Rios. We should have the money, I'm just not sure if Hahn would want to commit a long-term contract to him. Choo is a Boras client.
