  1. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:37 PM) Bottom Line: He knows Sox fans want Rios out. He also knows he has to get a prospect people can get at least somewhat excited about. To do that, he's going to have to help Pittsburgh cover a chunk of that 2014 salary. Sounds good to me, I don't see that money going to good use here anyway with the crap that is about to hit free agency. Send money, and pocket any amount you dont send and consider that money ahead of where you would be if you kept him. The potential return is the most important aspect, not salary, with what is coming off the books and the additional revenue coming in.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) The question is, if the Sox wait until the offseason, will Peavy's value go down even more? Yes.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) Question for discussion: If Peavy is traded, which do you expect? a-more impressive return than expected b-less impressive return than expected Less than expected at this point. I think Rick had overplayed his hand in asking for the moon. Hope I am wrong.
  4. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) I really hope that Rick Hahn doesn't trade Peavy if the right value isn't presented in return. If the Sox do not receive the offer that they like, why not just wait until the off-season to trade him? There is a real limited pool of available pitchers now which drives up Peavy's value. The market will be different in the offseason when there are many more guys available in a trade and free agent possibilities.
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) Sure does....today would be good timing. Getting Cruz suspended may make Texas move. Sounds like there may be some posturing going on around Arod and that is holding up the announcement. Seems like MLB is going out of its way to provide the Yankees a way to void his contract, which is coming at the expense of the teams that may be impacted.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) They don't have the bullets, this is a non-starter. Agree. They have a few top end guys, but I can't see them moving Machado and without him involved, a deal is impossible.
  7. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Does anyone think Boston would actually trade Bogaerts? I think they definitely would in the right deal, though not to us for what we would send back. If it were a deal for Sale, then yes, I think Bogaerts could be had.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) Then you are doubling the risk. Not only is it possible that Bundy may have been a bust without surgery, then you have to be certain that he comes back 100% from the surgery which is not a guarantee either. Just don't see it as the smartest move given Peavy's value right now. You are doubling the risk factors, not necessarily the total amount of risk. However the risk of him busting is pretty low as he already has made it to the majors. It is a legit top 10 prospect, top of the rotation type of guy that if you have a chance to get you have to take it. His floor now is back end of the bullpen and he could fall anywhere between there and the moon. It is pretty moot anyway as I dont think there is anyway that the Orioles would give him up for Peavy.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) It is still relatively common for a pitcher to never be right again after TJS. Maybe 1 out of 20. It's not a no-risk endeavor Sure, and prospects bust all the time as well. There is definitely risk involved, but that is the case whenever you are making deals for prospects.
  10. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) That's what I'm saying, reports are that they don't want to give up the prospects it would take to get Rios. So making a trade centered around Rios and Nathan and we bring in a 3rd team to turn Nathan around to for prospects. I agree I think Texas ends up with Rios I just don't see them giving up any decent prospects for him, this could be a work through. Det may not have that bat TX wants but they have prospects we are interested in and no doubt the would want Nathan. I just think that the third team thing is an act of desperation and they are not going to be able to make it happen. I think making the move for Garza means they have to commit to this season and will have to pay what it takes to put the team in a position to make the playoffs. The third team thing could work, or they send Nathan to the Tigers for prospects and flip those prospects to the Sox, but with a limited amount of time left until the deadline it will be very difficult to work out all the details of such a deal while also trying to deal Peavy.
  11. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:54 AM) if Rick is able to land Xander, Bundy, Russel, or any two of (Martinez, Wong, Wacha, Adams from the Cards). i think everyone on this board would be ecstatic I still think the most likely top prospect he will acquire is Profar. Texas is desperate and a package of Rios, Dunn, and cash goes a long way to settling that teams offense. Profars star has faded as a bench/utility player.
  12. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) Put me in the group that does not like to speculate much unless something happens then we can talk about it, but... I made a quick search on twitter for the word Peavy last night and what I found was bunch of upset A's fans saying that if Hahn wants prospects Gray and Russell A's better be getting Sale in return and not Peavy. Can anyone chime in on Gray and Russell for those who don't follow prospects? Realistically that seems pretty high. One of the two as a centerpiece would make sense, along with some lower tiered players. Something like Russell, Ynoa, and Alcantara would seem reasonable given the price that the Rangers paid for Garza. The issue with that group is none of them are ready to step on the ML roster and each are 1-2 years away. Gray is pitching in the majors now out of the bullpen. But has a solid track record as a starter in the minors.
  13. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 01:25 AM) I know that Texas is said to be dangling Nathan in order to attain their bat, however does any one else think we could work a 3-team trade out where Texas gets Rios, a 3rd team gets Nathan (Detroit, Boston, Atlanta, Pitt, Cards), and we get a package of prospects. That could really make things interesting if for instance we build a package for STL (Peavy, Nathan, Lexi) or Boston (Peavy, Nathan) Pitt (Alexi, Nathan, De Aza), ETc. Probably no chance of happening but it could def work and fill needs for all teams involved. I still just get the feeling Rios ends up in Arlington, ever since AJ came out a month or so and stated they wanted Rios. The reason that they are dangling Nathan is because they don't want to meet the price for Rios, so a deal of that nature seems unlikely. 'The Rangers appear to be trying every other avenue to avoid meeting the Sox price, calling other teams to pry away OF's and now putting Nathan out there to try and bring back a hitter. Obviously the team that could use Nathan the most is the Tigers, but I dont believe that they have the bat to give up to help out the Rangers, so they will need to come back to Rios.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) 2844409[/url]'] I would figure KW would be scouting Russell too. Giants system is really discouraging. I would take Ynoa as a throw in, but his stock has really fallen. Russell is really the only guy worth trading for not on the MLB roster.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) I can't believe the Sox haven't made any moves besides Thornton. You think the money issue is a holdup? If I were Jerry I wouldn't want to pay teams money for taking Rios/Dunn/Peavy/Lexi off our hands. It's bad business just to give away money with players. Hahn is really going to get blasted if he doesn't make some good trades. You have already spent the money, so if you can save some of the money you committed and improve the long term viability of the franchise, it is good business. Its bad business to hold on to assets when they have surpassed their usefulness.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) I don't think he's getting dealt this season, but there's little chance he doesn't get traded eventually. The Marlins can try to extend him, but he's been so publicly against staying with them long term that he would likely refuse any reasonable deal -- and there's no way the MLB would force the Marlins to hold him until he walks. No they wont force them to give him up for no return, but the roster turnstile they have had down there is affecting the value of the franchise. Hes not a free agent for 4 more years though, and from what I have read, the Marlins feel they can be competitive really soon with the current roster. They need upgrades at 2B and 3B (depending how long Moran takes), other than that their roster is pretty stacked with young talent. It will probably take them a couple seasons before they are clicking on all cylinders, but they will be a competitve before Stanton hits FA. If they do move him, it will probably be for an elite LHSP to anchor their rotation (Baumgarner or Sale type) with Fernandez, not a package of prospects.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) My opinion, no chance. They're saving him for Stanton. I dont think Stanton is getting dealt. I am not sure that MLB wouldn't stop such a move given the condition of that franchise.
  18. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) like smoak/davis/olt before him Smoaks value was still really high when he was dealt. He was the centerpiece of the Cliff Lee deal, since then he obviously has come to earth.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Any shot we can get Profar in a deal? Maybe thats why we haven't made the deal. Could be we are holding out for him and Texas is making calls to try and deal him for someone they like more than Rios. It's definitely a long shot, but the Rangers are in "all-in" mode.
  20. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) I don't know if we could do that well with Pittsburgh/Rios but I like the ideas anyways. Wouldn't Pederson stay in CF with De Aza moving to LF though? Outfield: De Aza-Pederson-Viciedo/FA Infield: Cecchini-Alexei-Beckham-Dunn/FA Rotation: Sale, Quintana, Danks, Santiago, Johnson We would need to pick up a couple relievers and maybe a 1B/DH/RF bat but I would love the potential moving forward. Probably to good to be true. I think Pederson is a year away from being major league ready though and Cecchini definitely is. If you can make those deals, I think your lineup is: 2014: 1B Viciedo 2B Beckham SS Ramirez 3B Gillespie/Morel LF De Aza CF Danks RF Hart DH Dunn 2015: 1B Wilkins/Viciedo 2B Beckham SS Ramirez 3B Cecchini LF De Aza CF Pederson RF Thompson DH Viciedo/FA
  21. Its possible he could be added to a Peavy deal with Boston as PTBNL and Boston sends back a PTBNL based on his health when he returns, otherwise the two teams substitute lesser players in those spots.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/07/stark-on.html Thats too bad, cause Alex Wood is the only player they have I would have much interest in.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) I read it first as Beckham too but I have had a detached retina procedure so by habit I looked again. Berkmans the switch hitting DH has knee and hip problems . I was hoping the Biogenesis suspensions would be handed out by the All-Star break but no such luck on anyone but Braun because RF Nelson Cruz is a prime candidate and Rangers must take that into consideration also. That's why the Rangers are thinking big right now. I also think they are looking to unload Profar and trying to get appropriate value back. The longer that Profar is a utility player for them the lower his value is in a deal. He isn't getting consistent enough at bats to get a read on, and he hasn't really set the world on fire as Machado has.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) That's dumb. Not saying you are necessarily wrong, but if you are turning down good, solid talent because you don't have a replacement ready on a team that isn't going to win a damn thing, then you are making a critical mistake I would imagine he isnt turning anything down, probably just slow playing. I imagine he just doesn't want to give another team leverage if it looks like we have a black hole at SS.
  25. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Can't AZ not take on anymore salary? Towers has said no. Not sure if that is gamesmanship or not.
