QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) Lol...I thought that's what Grody said in his update, but I missed the actual interview and didn't want to post that. Anyone familiar with the Braves system? Alex Wood please.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) Let's be honest, trading Santiago makes no sense. Your best hope is a prospect turns out as good as him and he's far from peaked. The problem is, the organization is deep with pitching prospects and has no real offensive prospects. The organization has a done a pretty good job of identifying pitchers and developing them. If you can get some offense back, he is a valuable chip to the right team. Quintana isn't as valuable in a deal as he doesn't have the stuff, but is plenty valuable to the White Sox. Sale is most likely going nowhere, and with Danks you would be moving him at his lowest possible value. In order to get some more balance in the rotation, one should go and Santiago makes the most sense from the return it would net.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) With Grilli out for the season, does a trade with the Pirates make more sense tha ever, given that we can package a reliever along with Rios and fill two holes for them? We can have them and the Red Sox bid against each other for a package of Rios and Reed. Boston is looking to replace Nava in the OF.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:05 AM) If the Sox are going to deal a 3-4 WAR lefty (who is, what, 25 years old?), then they need to get monstrous value in return. We are talking, at minimum, Davidson and Owings, and probably another low level prospect on top (and I've heard that Holmberg kid is good) I think the Sox could walk away with Owings or Davidson, probably not both. A deal with one of them plus Holmberg, Trahan, and Drury would seem about right. It seems the Sox would be wise to clear one of the leftys from the rotation, and Santiago makes the most sense from a value perspective.

I am getting the feeling that the stage is being set for a blockbuster with the Red Sox. The teams match up really well as pretty much all of our players on the market are fits for the holes they have on that roster. Not sure if the Red Sox are willing to gut the farm to the extent that it would take to make that happen, but it seems like a possibility.

I would guess that two guys that everyone thinks are going to get traded, wont be (probably Ramirez and Lindstrom). And two guys that people aren't talking about will be (Reed and Santiago for example).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) While 1b appears to be a more pressing need than an OF, they already have a lot of LHB. Cano, Ichiro, Gardner, Granderson will come back. Also Hafner/Overbay. That's like 5 lefty bats. With A-Rod's return on the fritz, Tex & Jeter hurt, I would think a right-handed hitter might be needed in that lineup. Just a guess. Hafner is likely DFA'ed to make room for Soriano, he will probably be their new DH. Hafner has been horrible for them.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) YeahSomeonuld totally see them defying logic and trading Santiago for an underwhelming package. Theyve misused him before so it may as well end like this. Rios and Ramirez I don't see gone since they aren't FAs and I doubt we get much anything back for them. There's no rush to trade them. I think a Peavy deal got more likely today but I still believe this FO has every intention of contending next year. Someone is going to really have to impress us to take someone who will be a key piece into next year. And who knows, maybe it's not a bad thing. He will still have a ton of value one year from today. There will always be teams desperate for a starter as the Rangers proved today. I don't think he loses as much of his value as some are making it out to be. Santiago makes a ton of sense for Arizona. Young, controllable, left handed and cheap. With the Diamondbacks seemingly tapped out financially, he is a guy they can slide in until Skaggs is ready, which they are trying to find out if he is now. The Giants could also make a lot of sense with Zito and Lincecum gone after the season and not having enough prospects to give up for Peavy.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) You mean like spending more than almost anyone else in international signings. Theos way has always been to spend more money on prospects than anyone else. He used to over spend in the draft. Since the new rules won't allow it, he needs to outspend other teams elsewhere. He was referencing the Yanks shedding payroll trying to avoid the luxury tax, I assume.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

I also want no part of Middlebrooks. If we are trading with Texas the package should be built around Sardinas. With the Red Sox my top target would be Cecchini with Vincio also included. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 09:11 AM) Chris Sale sez hey. How is his batting average?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:27 PM) Buddy Bell joined Rongey on White Sox weekly today. Rongey asked about Hawkins and I will try to paraphrase what Bell said. Buddy emphasized the shoulder injury a lot. Said he's still coming back from it and mentioned that he has 16 HR's and 47 RBI while missing 1 month of the season. He stated that Hawkins would have over 20 homers and 60 RBi's if he had stayed healthy. He took a shot at people that have said he should be in Kannapolis and mentioned Keith Law by name saying he has no idea what he is talking about. Bell alluded to something that many of us had mentioned. He basically said that Hawkins would learn nothing by heading back down and dominating Kannapolis. He said that part of the plan is to force Hawkins to make the necessary adjustments at Winston Salem because he could continue his bad habits and still dominate a lower level. Seeing how the Sox have developed hitters, it is just as likely that Buddy Bell has no idea what he is talking about.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) 2840288[/url]'] It's early in this dance with Texas. I will say Peavy should command more than they would send for Garza. Thats if Sardinas was actually included in the deal, most reports I have seen show the rest of the package minus Sardinas. Guessing that it was leaked by the Cubs that he was included to drive up the perceived value of Garza. I would take the deal with Sardinas if they included Odor or Williams. So many guys in that deal are so far away you have to get quite a few to increase the chances one actually succeeds. -

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) Rangers want Garza in time to start tomorrow. Talking about moving on to Bud Norris if they can't get a deal done soon. Rangers and Garza may be falling through "mystery NL team" involved. Probably either the Dodgers or Giants, but the chance for Peavy to the Rangers still lives. I like their farm system as much as anyones. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) Nick Cafardo @nickcafardo 29m The Red Sox have scouted both Alex Rios and Michael Young in the past week. Will be watching Jake Peavy closely in his next couple of starts lol

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) That would be obscene price gouging. So they'd charge 60 bucks for a halfway decent seat with a 20 million payroll? And 10 bucks for beer and 5 for a hot dog? Nice. Yes. Just as the Marlins do. The money would just go to the ownership group instead of payroll.
-
QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) No, it says they have value but if the sox expect to get premium talent they're going to have to kick in some $$ Which I think everyone understands.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) That article said they both combined are worth $4 million. That's scary bad in this economy. That's Francouer-like. I don't mind having Alexei on the Sox. I'd dump Rios for whatever we can get and force the future to begin in right field. There is no future to begin in right field. So in that case dumping him makes no sense. He is fairly compensated for his production over the past two seasons and is still relatively young. So if there is no deal to be made, Rios is the future. The article is also written by a Pirates homer who wants to hold on to all their decent prospects.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) Saw him Reno last night. The speed and power were legit. He should be hitting in the .360 range Only reason I could see for Dbacks not calling him up is to shop him Or not having a spot for him? Gregorious has been good for them and he is not displacing Aaron Hill.

Good LH positional talent with strong hit tools.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) Owings is my top target. Idgaf what happens as long as he joins us. A SS with an 11:2 K:BB ratio scares me in this system. Too much swing in miss as an organization now.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) I love Peavy. But hopefully he pitches well and if the right deal is there, you trade him. Agree. But I feel that way about everyone that is currently on the roster. If you are willing to overpay you can have anyone. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) Then they just get Schierholtz for way less and platoon him with the recently hot Tabata. Polanco is a top 25 prospect in the league, we'll be very lucky if we get him for Rios. They just aren't that desperate because they have other options. If they want to fill both holes, there aren't many options. The Cubs will require a lot more for a Castro/Schieholtz deal, so I dont think they would be ahead in any way. I understand Polanco has had a good season and that has given him a lot of helium in the rankings, so the Sox would probably be buying high on him at this point.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:55 AM) Polanco is projected to be a much better player than Barnes or Bell. He can replace Rios when that contract is up. Unless they don't get Rios because they wont give him up. The system is desperate for LH bats and Rick needs to start holding out for some. Hanson is intriguing, but with Beckham holding down 2B for the forseeable future, he is a pretty big risk. If Texas and Pittsburgh are the two teams in it for Alex, which ever team gives up either Sardinas or Polanco first wins.
