He’s not a “bad” player. My opinion is he’s overrated, McCann is at least a league average catcher (and cheap!), and the resources would have been better spent on starting pitching.

Barnes had a 1.1 WAR season in 2018.

Honest question, if Grandal is as elite as everyone says, why was he benched in favor of Barnes during the playoffs?

I always wanted two arms from the Tier 2 group of starting pitchers. Keuchel and Ryu could have really solidified the rotation until the young arms developed.

Not impressed by Grandal’s defense, sorry. It was a major red flag when a smart organization like the Dodgers was starting Austin freakin Barnes over Grandal in the postseason. That’s all I needed to know.

It is when you blow your load at a position already occupied by a good player (that now resides on the bench 70% of the time) when you clearly have a major weakness in another department (starting pitching).

And yet they already had an all star catcher. I didn’t realize they had a starting rotation filled with all stars.

Was one of the few on here that criticized the Grandal signing. Got roasted for it. I know it’s unfair but I’m already over him.

I’m fascinated that the Royals didn’t do the same with game 2 starter Brady Singer. That guy could be their future ace and they’re going nowhere this season or next.

This isn’t a question of Madrigal vs Garcia right now. It’s a question of Madrigal vs Nicky Delmonico (the guy Ricky plays every day and bats ahead of Lubo). Because if Madrigal were starting at 2b, Garcia would presumably be starting in RF in lieu of Nicky.

Eloy out of the starting lineup tonight. Just hoping it’s only a couple game absence versus trip to the IL. My guess is they’re still deciding. Goins buys them some versatility until then.

Tells me they wanted someone with more versatility and 2b in particular to free up Garcia for the OF again. Also, Goins can play a little OF himself in a pinch, Cuthbert cannot.

Exactly but 24 games right? If they go 15-9 in those 24 games, they simply need to go 16-20 against everyone else to make the playoffs. Seems feasible to me.
