  1. I think they’ll roll with McCann and Collins next year at catcher. I think his bat has potential but I really don’t want to see Collins spending much time at 1b or DH next season. Again, we don’t know when Vaughn will be ready. Presumably, it will be sometime in 2021 but you never know with injuries, performance, etc. It doesn’t hurt to have a little depth for once and Abreu will serve as a relatively cheap insurance policy in that regard (I’m assuming he gets ~$12M/yr). Even if Vaughn is up in 2021, you’re only talking about a logjam for a few months of the season. I don’t see it as a huge problem when JDM can play some outfield and Abreu and Vaughn can share 1b duties. Can’t remember the last time this team had too many hitters but it would be a nice problem to have.
  2. JDM will DH and play a little OF. Abreu will DH and play some 1b. Vaughn will play 1b but you could theoretically get all three in the lineup at the same time. Also, there’s no guarantee Vaughn will be ready by April/May 2021 so the second year on Abreu is a cheap insurance policy in case Vaughn isn’t ready.
  3. Nah, two years for Abreu would still work. He’d play 1b until Vaughn is ready sometime in 2021.
  4. And I’ll surely take Betts off their hands if they’d like too ?
  5. Still hoping the White Sox sign JDM. He’d be an ideal fit even if they bring Abreu back for another two years. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/red-sox-could-lose-mookie-betts-or-j-d-martinez-this-offseason-in-order-to-get-under-luxury-tax-report-says/amp/
  6. It never started.
  7. Should see the K% continue to improve as well, which will help offset BABIP regression.
  8. TA is great but I don’t see a path for him to become a top 3 player at shortstop any time soon. His defense would have to improve dramatically.
  9. Before the rebuild, the Sox had four “stars” - Sale, Quintana, Eaton, Abreu. I’d take the current foursome of Moncada, Giolito, Robert, Jimenez over the before-mentioned group. These four have a legitimate chance to be top 3 players in MLB at their respective positions as early as next year. That’s incredible.
  10. My proposal was Lopez and Steele Walker for Musgrove.
  11. And people thought I was nuts for suggesting a Lopez for Musgrove swap...Musgrove isn’t great but he’s more reliable than Lopez at this point in their careers and if they plan to compete next year they need more reliable arms.
  12. Yolmer is trash but has been a better value (by far) this year than Machado ($4M per fWAR vs $12M per fWAR). What does that make Machado then? Because it’s definitely not a “star”.
  13. Yolmer Sanchez: 255/324/326 - 1.2 fWAR Manny Machado: 251/330/453 - 2.5 fWAR This season, Yolmer is Manny minus the homers.
  14. Well, it certainly earned guys like Heyward and Machado a ton of money.
  15. Mookie Betts aligns with the Sox anticipated contention window much better than Harper or Machado ever did.
  16. I’m not sure why you’re so focused on improving 2b/3b. Quite frankly, that’s the least of this team’s concerns and the infield overall is its biggest strength. Address the pitching, RF, and DH and then we can talk about 2b/3b.
  17. Would he still be the pinnacle of our team if his defense was substandard at 2b? He was awful there last year and has been rock solid at 3b. Maybe he would have taken a big leap at 2b as well but we don’t know that. What we do know is that he’s been great at 3b and is likely a better all around 3b than Machado moving forward. Nick Madrigal doesn’t need to “slug” if he’s getting on base at a 350+ clip with terrific defense and baserunning.
  18. Moncada has been great at 3b. Even @greg775’s old eye test will tell you that. Why people are still wanting (theoretically) to move Moncada back to 2b or OF is beyond me.
  19. Wouldn’t be the first and won’t be the last.
  20. This season, Machado has been Yolmer Sanchez with homers. Scary thought.
  21. Even if Yoan posted a 900 OPS at 2b, if his defense still sucked as much as it did during his first 1.5 seasons, he wouldn’t be worth more than what he’s doing at 3b this season.
  22. Yoan sucked defensively at 2b but has been a stud at 3b this year. Why does everyone assume he would be more valuable at 2b?
  23. 106 wRC+, 2.6 fWAR with 10 games to go. I’m sure the Padres hope he’s much better next season...
  24. He’s showing signs of settling in. He has a 1.171 OPS over his last 4 games. Trending in the right direction.
