  1. Because I believe he has more trade value than Lopez as things currently stand.
  2. Musgrove has 1 year less control than Lopez. Suddenly, everyone is a huge fan of Lopez? Lol. Had me fooled. Musgrove is so mediocre that he has the same fWAR as Manny Machado this year. What does that make Machado?
  3. And Lopez has dominated the AL? I thought people here love peripherals? Musgrove has a career FIP of 4.01 and xFIP of 4.13.
  4. Would you be upset with Bumgarner and Nova signings and then a trade for a guy like Musgrove (Lopez + Walker)? That’s what I’d like to see. Giolito, Bumgarner, Musgrove, Cease, Nova, and eventually Kopech/Rodon/Dunning.
  5. And that’s why I believe 1 year ~$6M likely gets it done. That’s cheap for an innings eater with a 4.50 - 4.80 ERA.
  6. They have 3 spots locked down, 4 if you count Kopech. They need two more starters at least. And that’s if you believe in Lopez as a starter (I do but I know many don’t). If they splurge on a starter from the Tier 2 group, which are the top guys after Cole, I’d be fine with Nova as the other veteran signing if they use the remaining saved money to upgrade the bullpen and RF.
  7. Oh come on. You don’t want to see more Covey, Banuelos, Santiago, Detweiler, despaigne and any other AAA garbage out there next year?
  8. Won’t the Sox be best served with 6 starting pitchers next year if Kopech is in the rotation (which I am assuming he will be at some point before Memorial Day)? Won’t Kopech and Cease both be on innings limits for the season?
  9. Yep and this is exactly what the pro Nova fans were saying. No one was saying rush and lock this guy up to an extension because he’s some sort of great pitcher. But at the right price, he’s a solid #5/#6 starter next year and that’s exactly what this team needs - starting pitching depth.
  10. They really need to break camp with at least 5 capable starting pitchers, excluding Kopech and Rodon. If those guys make it back healthy and provide more than 100 innings next season consider it a bonus. So right now only 3 guys are really penciled in. I’d welcome bringing Nova back as a reliable #5 and then sign one of the premier FA starting pitchers. Ideally, then I’d also love to see them package Lopez and Steele Walker for someone like Joe Musgrove.
  11. 160+ innings with an ERA below 5 is definitely worth something in today’s game. And for those thinking it should be easy to plug anyone into the #5 spot (AAA filler, DFA candidates, or similar) and expect this type of production, well I guess they haven’t watched much White Sox baseball the last few years.
  12. He’s 8-9 for a team 13 games below .500 so technically he can win. As a #5/#6 type starter, he’d be fine imo since he’s thrown 160+ innings in each of the last 4 seasons and seems capable of posting an ERA below 5 (which has been difficult for many Sox pitchers in recent years).
  13. I hope but even Kopech is a question mark coming off surgery. Can’t really pencil a guy in for 150+ innings in his first year back from TJS.
  14. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/08/white-sox-rumors-ivan-nova-return.html if he’d be willing to take a 1 year deal at $6M or $7M, I say why not. Going to need at least 6 capable starting pitchers next year and the only locks at this time are Giolito, Lopez, and Cease.
  15. Yea, this article sums it up pretty well. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/ny-sports-dodgers-fbi-investigation-machado-madden-20181020-story.html%3foutputType=amp “This is a guy who’s playing for a $300 million contract in free agency this winter. Knowing this, knowing this blatant disrespect for the game and the disdain with which so many other players in the game have for him, you have to ask yourself: “What owner in their right mind would make that kind of longterm financial commitment to Machado? If this is the way he acts before he gets the money, what’s he going to be like after he gets his lifetime security? Good luck. And yet someone will still be blinded by his abilities – just like the Seattle Mariners in 2013 when they gave Robinson Cano (who also had a propensity for not running out ground balls) 10 years/$240 million. How’s that working out? Yankee fans can only hope it won’t be Hal Steinbrenner forgetting the lesson of Alex Rodriguez. Let the buyer beware.”
  16. It’s more than his paltry performance this season. The guy has always seemed off and easily raged. It’s not normal. Combine that with sharing a locker with his Orioles teammates, busted cheaters like Davis and Castillo, career year last season heading into free agency, and I’ve been skeptical for over a year now. Like I said, the next 9 seasons will tell the story. What explanation will you have if he’s a 110 wRC+ or worse hitter next season? After all, I’ve been told he’s in his prime seasons, ages 26-28, the first two years of his 10 year contract.
  17. Ok and how old are Scherzer, Lynn, Morton, DeGrom, Verlander, Ryu, and Grienke? Those are 7 of the top 10 by fWAR this season (Strasburg is #11).
  18. Who gives a shit if they’re 30? Take a look at the top 10 pitchers by fWAR this season. How many are 30+ years old?
  19. Sorry I haven’t personally collected Manny’s piss and tested it. And just because he hasn’t been caught by the league doesn’t mean he was clean either. Plenty of ways to hide it. How many “superstars” have actually received PED suspensions during the prime of their careers? My evidence is his offensive performance this season and what I expect to come over the next 9 seasons. I mean he’s in his “prime” as a hitter yet he’s on pace for a career high strikeout rate? 14.7% last season to 20% this season. How often does that happen for a hitter entering their age 26/27 season?
  20. I’m not. But if the question is what is a better use of resources for this team as currently constructed - $300M for Machado or $250M for Strasburg and Bumgarner, I’m taking the second option and it’s not even close.
  21. Do you even know what you’re arguing? I’m on record in saying that they should have signed Harper. And to answer your question, I’d rather have two starting pitchers (say Strasburg and Bumgarner) for the price of one $300M Manny Machado.
  22. Him and Beef Wellington were tight no? Like I said, I’m convinced more than half that Orioles team was dirty - Davis, Castillo, Machado, Schoop, Cruz, etc.
  23. Machado has been pretty ordinary all season except for a hot stretch in June. Not sure how anyone could argue he’s had a good season. His drop off in offensive performance from his career year last season was completely predictable.
