  1. I think the Goff pairing will last another decade. If Matty was given/took the opportunity I wouldnt be so sure. Although I really like Matt and enjoy when he is on I dont get the sense that the majority of listeners do too. It sucks for Matt though, he has paid his dues to at least get a shot even if it fails.
  2. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Would hate to move Moncada to third. He is pretty vocal about strongly preferring second base. Whatever works for the team I am sure he would be OK with though. I would love to get an offensive monster type production out of second base as long as he can be at least average defensively. You move him to 3rd or center it drops his offensive value down a notch in my book.

  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) I totally disagree that this is "putting their eggs all in one basket with Q". The Pirates have so many guys under team control until after 2020 that this is a sensible move if they don't have to give up Bell. Their infield - Bell for 6 years, Kang for 3 years including an option, Mercer for 2 years, Harrison for 4 years including 2 options, has no room for anyone right now other than the occasional "David Freese" type signing. Their Outfield has Polanco under team control for 7 seasons counting two options (Jesus Christ) and Starling Marte under control for 5. Their starting rotation has Taillon, Glasnow, and Kuhl - each with 3 years of control, Ivan Nova for 2 years as a "Searage will fix him guy". Francisco Cervelli is under contract for 3 years. They have major 2 players out of their entire lineup they have to worry about hitting free agency, McCutchen after 2018 and Cole after 2019. Basically, they will have to make a decision on McCutchen next offseason. Honestly, if he had had a normal year for himself, I think they would have actually given him a big money extension this offseason - yes even though it's the Pirates - because that fanbase gets along great with him. That's why they don't want to give up Meadows, but they also don't want to have McCutchen put up a normal year and then not make a playoff run, because they'd be wasting their potential last year with him. Basically, how is going for a pitcher "putting all your eggs in one basket" when so much of your lineup is under control for so long? They have 3 more drafts to rebuild anything they give up in this deal, and you always expect some people to develop unexpectedly and you still have the ability to get something for McCutchen next offseason if that is what you choose to do. That makes sense. Pirates what are you waiting for?
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) Man, we really needed a team like the Mets to overpay for McCutchen. Hahn is definitely not going to get his man in Meadows if they trade Cutch.
  6. QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) thank you, he is a fine 3rd or 4th piece in a deal but not one to headline for Q. Meadows has question marks about his health if the pirates are serious about Q he is going to be in the deal, same with Keller and one of Newman or Hayes; likely Hayes, Bell is likely the sticking point because they want his production the major league roster and if Hahn takes a package of Meadows/Keller/Hayes+ for Q he leaves the buccos with depth in Glasnow and Bell remains at the major league level for them, Keller and Hayes aren't in their immediate plans. Also if Q's contract is a burden on them take back Bastardo as i suggest in the last Q thread throw in a Putnam and upgrade the last piece of the deal a bit. For people posting about how prospects are the lifeblood of that organization, yeah no s*** but if you get Q it gives you at the very least a half season reboot on McCutchen's value if they fall out by the trade deadline and 3.5 years to deal Q to restock. Lastly Marte or Polanco can slot into CF which if they do so would lessen Meadows value to the pirates and opens them up to the FA market for a rebound candidate in the future, a 'tweener' or a platoon for LF. Thats putting their eggs all in one basket with Q then. I get your point and I agree that its a risk they should be taking if they are serious about winning but its not a homerun with no risk for them if they do it either.
  7. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-21-pros...sburgh-pirates/ Pittsburgh Pirates TOP 21 prospects on Fangraphs Looking at that list makes me feel even more than we might not be a good fit in trading. There top 20 is heavy on the pitching, if they trade us the positional players that we need and are asking for they will not have much left themselves. The Pirate life blood is living off of those guys. I really dont anticipate dealing with them.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) In general though I think we are putting way too much stock in what a non-org member is saying re-who is "untouchable". No Boston blogger was saying that Moncada would be available for Sale. That said, every team in on Q to this point accurately believes that no top position player has been offered yet for Q, so why be the first? There are no deadlines so they may as well see if they can wear out the sox. Yeah probably but rum bunter has seemed to have a inside on this lately so they get a little more of a reaction to saying something like that than just the regular fan club.

  10. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Cashman did say Hahn asked for 3 elite prospects. Maybe talks didn't progress past that. Cashman looks tired these days. Cashman looked tired ten years ago.
  11. Damn, are we seriously going to see a draft where the top three guys drafted are QB's in a year that people are saying its a weak draft for QB's top to bottom? That sounds disastrous.
  12. I like Abbattacola a lot. He has some annoying tendencies like every other host but for the most part he has fun which is refreshing plus he gives Bernstein s*** more than anyone else. That would be something that I would welcome to keep a better balance for the show. Terry agreed with way too much of what Bernstein said and there was never a counter argument to Bernstein. I hope Matt gets it.
  13. 10,000 posts. Its taken me over ten years to get here. Less than a 1000 posts a year? I would say quality of quantity but I know that would be a lie.
  14. I dont watch much of any college football because I think it sucks even worse than the NFL product but I do think that accuracy is underrated when teams are drafting the QB position based off of a guy being gifted athletically. From what I understand Watson threw a ton of INT's this past year. We all know what an inaccurate toolsy guy looks like as Bear fans. Not quite what I am looking for. You have to show me both to get drafted in the first or second rounds.
  15. LOL I was sitting here laughing at my desk thinking about, again, how I could never be a GM for many obvious reasons but especially because at this point I would be like f*** YOU to all the other GM's and tell them they arent getting anything from me. No patience from me at all.
  16. I dont think Hahn is going to budge on not getting an elite offensive player in the deal. He seems to be pretty steadfast in his convictions of what he wants out of these deals, which he should be, and is willing to not deal at all if he doesnt get exactly what he wants. Even if it means we never trade Q he is probably willing to keep him and know that he didnt settle for something less. Its possible that none of these teams budge now. There will probably be a new set of teams interested by June however.
  17. Dont teams understand that when a team has the leverage of having a guy like Q that we dont just want the guys that you are willing to part with, you have to give us a guy that you arent willing to part with as well to complete a trade? If you dont do it then we will keep Q until someone does.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) The last time the White Sox ranked top 5 in pitching in the AL was 2005. I would love to see what our offensive rankings during this period (last ten years) were.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) At some point you run into diminishing returns for sure. You only have so many slots in the minors and so much instruction time that you can give out. It also completely ignores that a lack of positional talent is what got us to this point in the first place and we are back to trusting this team to draft and develop position players. I am totally with you on this, the Q trade i obviously a HUGE trade for the Sox here. The last big piece to acquire difference making positional talent to put the org on the right track for the next decade. If they dont and they just get the pitching I am not sure they really understood what held them back all these years. I have no issue with the pitching that they have received in return for Sale and Eaton but if they again go to the pitching well with Q I will be at a total loss with what they are trying to here.
  20. I think its great to have fantastic pitching and all but this trade they really have to make the centerpieces of the deal around some elite positional player talent. We already know that they can build pitching but we have sucked for a long time because we have no difference makers on offense. That is what they need to get and if they can do that AND get a pitching prospect in this deal as well? Great.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) I'm pumped. It's been weeks since any real new rumors came out. I know lol we are all starving for some stuff like this, just messing with ya
  22. One good thing about rumors like this is that a lot of the guys start checking on their sources and give updates on what they are hearing once the ball gets rolling like this. Bad thing is that it freaks mike the f*** out.
  23. Dan HayesVerified account ‏@CSNHayes LT Yes, #WhiteSox 40-man is at 40 now. But, adding Geo Soto later gives them more time/flexibility if there's a need to add players now.
  24. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 2m2 minutes ago @barstoolWSD @JamesFox917 @Dunt1 Or they don't make a move. It's all fluid from hour to hour, let alone day to day.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) OH. MY. GOD!!!!!!!!!! Take it easy. I dont think this is imminent. LOL
