That is what speed, aggressiveness on the base paths and a good hitter gives you. -
QUOTE (son of a rude @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) He is already 28 though. I don't think he will get much better than he is now. I find Aaron Poreda somewhat expendable too, considering Dan Hudson and Dexter Carter are looking like studs. The only person I am hesitant on giving up is Clayton. He has good stuff and has pitched pretty well the past couple games, but we would be getting Doc frickin Halladay. I would be all for this trade. Precisely why this trade wont happen. The Jays are asking for the MOON, the stars and everything in between...unless Beckham is involved we won't get Halladay. People in here are funny...Perado is expendable, Fields is...so we're going to package them for Halladay? LMAO...Halladay isn't coming for expendable players.

White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Can anyone tell me who has he ever been successful with as far as young players go? I can't think of many. What exactly do you think major league hitting coaches can do? The reason we don't have good hitters is because we don't have good hitters. It's called lack of talent. The good hitters like Jermaine Dye, AJ, Konerko who routinely bat at or around .300 are NOT the result of Walker? Or should Dye be hitting .350 with a better hitting coach? Does Walker get any credit for how brilliant Beckham has gone from automatic out to .300 major league hitter only 2 months into his major league career? And Scotty pods hitting near .300? What hitter has left the White Sox and Walker's terrible tutelage and gone on to great things? Players like Brian Anderson will be for their new team what they were for us...subpar ML hitters. I am not saying there isn't value in good hitting coaches, there is, but this notion that Walker is the source of all our hitting problems is laughable. These are big league hitters, THEY SHOULD ALREADY KNOW how to hit, they should understand the game by now. The hitting coach essentially is the hitters 'eyes from afar', nothing more than another viewpoint on a hitter's swing. If a player is having trouble with inside pitches, does he need a freaking coach to tell him, "why don't you try to open your stance slightly?" ... "Wow coach, I never thought of that." Some people (not you necessarily) are so out to lunch they actually believe Walker tells the hitters, 'now guys...let the pitches down the middle go by and swing at those that are in the dirt." What will make Greg Walker look like a good hitting coach is good hitters on the White Sox. -

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) That's my point! Wise and Anderson have the same number of SBs, and Wise missed about 8 weeks with the shoulder injury. The team needs some speed, and Wise was a better option than Anderson given that need. Anderson is the better overall player, but when you're looking at the 23rd or 24th guy on your roster, you sometimes have to take the guy that fills a need instead of the better overall talent. What good is Wise's speed if he CAN'T GET ON BASE? Ever. The team NEEDS speed that is actually LINEUP credible. If Wise was a viable CF option that could take 4 at bats per game and get on base AT LEAST ONCE, then sure he's the guy to stay. But ... he is horrid and the fact he could potentially be a better pinch runner than Anderson is negated by the fact Anderson could be a better late inning defensive replacement. Keeping Wise over Anderson makes absolutely no sense and the tin foil circus in here that suggest Ozzie and Kenny just hate Anderson looks a bit more understandable when you see a player with a .186/.235 line getting routine starts in center field. -

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Why was it a terrible decision? Brian, as the 4th OF, can't steal a base like Wise can (occasionally) and that's what was needed at the time a decision had to be made. Brian is a AAAA player; I for one am not going to lose sleep because he's not here. Anderson has the same amount of stolen bases as does Wise and despite his bad average, bad ops, bad slugging %, and bad OBP, he IS STILL BETTER than Wise. Anderson also has much bettter defensive skills. This was the dumbeset of moves. No it's not going to make or break the Sox, but I see no logic in keeping Wise over Anderson. None. Wise may be the games current worst player. -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Isn't he pretty much another Jerry Owens?? He has far more potential than that. He was clearly a victim of the Cub (over)hype machine and has done little in Baltimore to excite, but his ceiling is far greater than Owens, in nearly every facet of the game. I'd rather take a shot at Pie for Fields than another aging, slow-footed, limited dimensional player who is beyond his prime. -
Here we go bullpen shopping YET again. Wash-rinse-repeat. I thought we had this issue solved? How many of our prospects will we need to shop to finally fix this overpaid bullpen? And if we give up one of our best prospects for yet another in the long line of bullpen saviors, it still won't help us get the key hit to win games or make quality plays in the field, etc. The only thing I want to trade for is someone capable of hitting the baseball and running down the first base line without pulling up lame, while having the added bonus of being able to catch a baseball that is rolling at him.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) IF we take 3 of 4 from NYY, that changes a lot of things for the better. Then I would expect us to get swept the next week versus LAA. This team is NOT good enough or consistent enough for the long haul. While it's good enough (at least the starting pitching) to go on small streaks and maybe even win a series against a very good team (such as we did v. Tampa Bay), this team is just so mediocre that success will be fleeting. We followed up a 3 of 4 over Tampa Bay and a perfect game by losing 6 of our next 7 against two teams (Det, Minny) that are nearly as mediocre as we are, but seemingly less so in retrospect. Sox can only win the AL Central if the rest of the division wins no more than 81 games.

good, quick inning for him.

QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) Last season I gave up on this team in September, and they proved myself and everyone else wrong. I can't and won't give up on them, even if we lose tonight. Giving up would be shutting it off and not even watching. Though many of us are surely complaining, we're still here. There is absolutely no condition on 'giving up' unless you actually quit caring. No one here I wager has quit caring.
-
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Hey look a solo home run. The most logical method for this team to score. It helps, but you can't build much with just one dimension.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) I want him to trade guys like Contreras and Dotel, as I'm not so sure we wouldn't be just as good of a team without them. I'd throw in a couple other guys, but don't want to raise the ire of some fellow-posters. But we can start with those two (assuming Count has much value).
-
2-0 after 2...against a nothing pitcher. Most teams should be fine, but it would not shock me to see this clod deal up 1 run ball for 6 or 7 innings before we meltdown against their pen.
-
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) panic sox fans. panic You honestly think this team is a championship caliber team? We have old guys who are injured, guys who shouldn't even be on a major league roster, players who can't field their positions, a bullpen that's over rated crap, slow guys all around the lineup. Starting pitching IS good (tonight notwithstanding), but the rest of this team is BELOW average stock.
-
QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) No. That's ridiculous. We'll be 3 games back, I understand people are frustrated, but this division is there for the taking. The Sox can do it, the question is can Ozzie motivate these lifeless pieces of crap. Sure it's there for the taking, but this aint the team to take it.
-
SELL Kenny. SELL.
-
Unbelievable...walk a .211 hitter and then a .167 hitter nearly takes you yard. Get the pen up, Jose is terrible tonight.
-
Geezus...Jose is back to nibbling. Treating Punto like he's Hank Aaron.
-
Just as I type that Jose gets rid of Cuddyear on a heater. Throw the hard stuff 52.
-
Count throwing a lot of breaking stuff early. Are the Twinkies that good of a fastball hitting team?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) Nice range Jermaine...yuck Jermaine is like the big slow kid in little league as long as you don't hit it right to him it's a hit. Loved JD's bat, but he's barely adequate in RF anymore. We have to upgrade our defense in the off-sesaon.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) maybe wise just stands out more because he seems to be in the lineup EVERYDAY Good point.
