QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) We were playing for 2 runs. 2 hitters bunt, especially with 2 on and none out. That is the epitome of a bunt situation. Moving two men instead of one into scoring position for your 3, 4, and 5 hitters is absolutely the textbook thing to do. Agree...but some will go to great lengths in not finding certain players culpable even if it means making up crap about Guillen. The bunt was the RIGHT CALL...at the very least we get 1 run, but Dye and Thome blew it...it happens.
-
I liked the bunt...the problem was Dye and Thome couldn't deliver. The table was set for them, they failed. Having runners at 2nd and third with less than 2 out IS ALWAYS a good play when youre already winning by 2 runs with a pitcher that's in pretty good control.
-
I hope that doesnt come back to haunt us...

They didnt throw at CQ relax. No way they were there.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) successful bunt!! Been a theme lately (last nights washout notwithstanding)....

Gavin getting it done since the first.

No minor league talent (or very little) means we go with what we got. Oh well, it's not like we didn't know Crede had a bum back and half the rest of the team was aging (fast). If EVERYTHING went perfectly, the Sox were ok, but it's not going perfectly. I don't know what Massett, Richar + player could have brought us in the way of pitching depth, but I'd rather have had that than slow-footed OF depth.

Quentin has indeed passed Hamilton, but there are still almost 2 months left and Hamilton can get white hot again like earlier in the season. He's hit the dog days of summer, he'll come out of it...I hope Carlos gets it of course, but JH would be a nice story...just so it doesn't go to a Yankee or Red Sox.

3 of 4 wins now....starting to get a little MO maybe? Starting pitching needs to come around ...Danks and Burls are trying to do their part.
-
Ball game...good job guys.
-
1 ooot...it was a long oot, but ooot.

Quentin is big.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) lol, what a bogus statement. I said it before, and I'll say it again, pitch count is the biggest load of garbage used to determine if the pitcher is over-used or tired. Really. Makes you wonder how pitchers used to throw 150 pitches and still get a full career in under their belt. Personally, I hate relief pitchers...they are a necessary evil in modern day baseball, but with a few exceptions they are basically failed starting pitchers.

Dotel is the 2008 version of 2005 Marte ... when that guy would come in you wouldn't breath for 45 minutes. And here we go...a game in total control pissed away by our trillion dollar bullpen. When is Linebrink back?
-
This is GREAT baseball....great starting pitching, a sac fly to score a run, moving runners over, clutch hitting, not relying on the homer...who are these guys and what have you done with the White Sox? Awesome boys...I love this.
-
Way to go Burls...
-
Maybe it's just me, but Danks looks solid tonight. Bought time. We need our arms to take control of this thing.
-
In his first ever start, Gio was exceptional today. a 1.00 WHIP...his control is still a bit of an issue, but it's not like he's old. Even with DLS blowing up his elbow, Oakland has to like their future (at least until they trade it all away again).

Unbelievable. CF is easier health wise than RF or LF? Then why the hell isn't Griffey still there? Or is Kenny the only one with this esteemed information? Whatever, I don't care about it anymore...lets just see what happens with the last two months of the season. The division is so there for the taking and after that anything can happen.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Getting something for nothing isnt necassarily bad. And Griffey offers a little more than just something IMO We got a below average player. that does not solve a need. He won't DH (Thome is already there) and it would be lunacy to suggest he go in RF or LF over arguably our two best players, leaving only CF as a viable option. If Konerko is shutdown for the year I guess Swisher takes his .229 average, 8 homers to 1st base and Griffey will take his .245 NL average and rapidly deteriating body out to CF. Sounds like a grand plan to me, not. As far as the two guys we dealt, calling them nothing is absurd. NO, they aren't superstar stud prospects, but Massett was just being inquired about today by Texas, so they wanted to at least talk about him. Richar is still only 24 years old. I didn't think he was anything special when we got him and when I saw him to be honest, but he's still TBD on just how far he can go at the Major League level. We've gone from getting players heading toward the downside of their careers to players who are clearly on the downside. Instead of trading for guys 2 years too late, now we're trading for them 7 years too late. Sing the happy song all you want, but this trade is just funny to me.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I'll say that morale has nothing to do with the ability to hit a baseball, throw a baseball and catch a baseball. Although that's a general principle, and not related to Griffey. I like this deal. We didn't give up anything. Because we didn't give up 'anything' makes it a good deal?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) My brother heard the Sox are talking to the Marlins, who are interested in Brian Anderson That really makes sense, because the Marlins were in on him last year I think. I could see Tankersley being of interest to the Sox...he is a nasty lefty who hasn't really settled in with Florida yet. He's probably a future closer. Don't know that I'd go BA for him straight up though, because he hasn't really excelled consistently at the major league level yet and I don't know that you could really count on him for this year, which is what any trade Kenny makes would be subject to.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) They're referring to Brian Anderson Why would BA be consider and OH/DH type?
-
Dye is going nowhere...he's one of the few guys in the lineup who has brought it every day of every game. He is not replaceable...Thome, PK, Swisher...deal them if you get the offer. Dye? Hell no.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) i say we sign bonds too, what the hell. As it stands now, our lineup will have 1800+ career Homeruns.....that has to be an mlb record. thome-526 griff- 608 bonds- 762 dye- 288 crede- 125 ocab - 103 swish - 95 2507 career homeruns for the lineup. You forgot one important piece...Mike Schmidt. We are struggling at third base and Schmidtty would fill that void. And what are the rules on signing dead guys?
