  1. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) lol, thanx. i look forward to expressing all my sox feelings. like everyone else whos a member of soxtalk.com, i bleed white sox baseball. sox in 05! where gonna kill minnesota! Just like a woman, expressing her feelings!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) If Hermanson fills that role, there's a hole being created in the pen. KW has always wanted to build a pitching staff 15-16 deep. I can name 15 guys who have ML experience and who are vying for a spot on this staff: RH: Garcia, Contreras, Hernandez, Garland, Takatsu, Hermanson, Vizcaino, Politte, Adkins, Bajenaru, Diaz LH: Buehrle, Marte, Cotts, Walker, Munoz There is 16 and I'm sure I'm missing someone. I still don't see depth at starting pitching ... yes, they have five but it is foolhardy to think none of these guys will miss a start or even extended time (example El Duque). They still have spring training to get a few arms in the system but I am surprised they haven't brought a few more arms in via invites. Leave the good prospects at AA and stack Charlotte with some guys who can capably fill in. Maybe one of the young guys will finally step up but then again that's another question mark. Ok so you are agreeing with me that they don't have anyone that can spot start and make a difference? Your like switzerland.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) My POV is that kenny did a good job doing what he wanted to get done, but I'm not sold on that being the best route for this team. For our sakes for the next two plus season, I hope he proves me wrong... He's the one with a front office job in major league baseball, not me... There's a reason for that, (I think ) -- For the record, I still think that picking up Pierzynski is the best move/pick-up for any team this year... Left handed catchers who hit .300 aren't growing on trees, and when you find one they cost more than $2M. I somewhat agree with your assessment. it certianly is an interesting one, I truly think its predicated on everyone actually coming through. We have no room for error, as Jim stated we lack depth. If something goes wrong with 2 of our players it will be a long year. If pods hits 230 for example and Contraras is inconsistant we have a problem. Everything must come together for this to be right because we have nobody that can spot start and make a difference.
  4. QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Yeah, and I'm studying journalism. I just didn't like the article, why is everyone so friggin critical? Relax, sometimes its just in the delivery. Write like a writer not like a teenager. i am not picking on you.
  5. QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) We don't need to listen to some stupid journalist who has no intelligence whatsoever. Seriously, I mean, we don't base our opinions off writers for ESPN or for any media, we should base it off what we want to think. Its all about our mindset on things. Don't you want to be a writer?
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Where does he think Maggs will end up? he actaully never said other than he now said that Detriot did offer a 5 year deal, when over the weekend he said that was bulls***. the guy sucks
  7. Bruce Levine is on ESPN radio in chicago right now. He believes burnitz is the guy the Cubs will get. All speculation again. He said Cubs will not go past a two year deal on Maggs.
  8. QUOTE(AstralSox @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 07:45 AM) Funny, and I thought all the morons posted on the Chisox.com messageboard. I came here to get away from that. I guess it's impossibe to escape. :headshake Well maybe you should go back. I really don't believe I used words like Idiot or moron. I agreed with someone other than yourself. Doesn't make me a moron, just a point of view. There is always Whitesoxinteractive.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) Pearl ... San Antonio. Toured that brewery too, right before they closed. Great beer, that stuff was excellent, it was my refrigerator beer in California. That and Pabst Genuine Draft. And Lucky Lager. 1980's at the ballpark was Old Style, before the Cub yuppies made it a big deal. Old Style was basically what drove Schlitz out of Chicago, after Schiltz tinkered with the recipe and screwed it all up. Drewerys = squatty brown bottles. Balletine, Kingsbury,Rhiengold, Shiner
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) All except Old Timers were way out of my price range back in the day! Old Style was a dog beer, they used to sell that crap on the south side for 5.99 a case, and that when it wasn't on sale. You are missing out on a very good cheap beer of today ... LaCrosse Lager ... yes I know you haven't tried it and therefore it is inconceivable to you. Unbelievable. They used to sell Hamms at the ballpark in the 60's and then it was Falstaff in the 70's, I have a great Falstaff Channel 44 ad hanging in my basement, nothing but the finest. You forgot Pearl, and Rainer Beer
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) Yuengling, I already said Stag, Walters, Sterling, I have a Grain Belt delivery shirt in my closet, don't tell me about Grain Belt I toured the brewery 3 times. Cold Spring, Hudepohl, Pickett's, Rolling Rock in the squatty 7 oz. cans. You forgot Old timers, Lone star, iron city, red dog
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) FINALLY. We agree on something. HiBrau = Huber = Rhinelander = Braumeister. Same beer, same brewery, different label. Ahhh, marketing. Schlitz, Schaffer. Stop this I am the king of cheap beer. See Grain Belt, Stag, schmidts
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) Are you talking about the nose picking guy? Yikes. I have a picture of the old Drewery's brewery from 18th and Damen hanging in my basement and an old Drewery's bottle opener hanging behind my bar in a place of honor, it was my dad's and oh my did it open a lot of cheap beer ... Schell's, Rhinelander, PBR, Stroh's, Huber, Leinenkugels back in the day, Dubuque Star, Old Chicago, Blatz, Red White and Blue. No the cute girl. you forgot black label, buck horn and Hi Brau.
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) I see nothing wrong with it. Explain please. unless its you I just don't get it. Girls are way more attractive. I don't get this guy.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) Actually to be honest, you've had much better avatars. You had one with a hot chick for example. Much better. This one is on a par with the basketball player picking his nose, not good. I vote that all avatars should be of hot chicks, unless you're an older guy like quickman, in which case it should be a picture of cheap beer like Huber or Hamm's or Falstaff. i told Qwerty the same thing. i wouldn't let this guy walk within 500 feet of my house, but Qwerty's last avatar would be let into the house in a hurray!... to babysit of course. As far as the beer goes, I personally like drewery's, Blatz, or olympia.
  16. I totally agree, and on top of that, Gload does not scare me when he bats and I am certain he doesn't scare anyone else. Everett although in a decline, still can scare pitchers, especially if he gets off to a good start. This won't happen folks, but since we don't have anything else to talk about I guess we can play GM
  17. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Interpretation: Roots for the Cubs on the side or when the Sox are eliminated. (See 2003 season.) Further interpretation: Cannot be classified as a Sox fan. Absolutely agree!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well said
  18. Ok here is the latest on the Mets Entering the fray. Don't shoot the messenger. Ny media (660 the fan- Mets baseball host Ed Coleman) has just announced that Mets GM Omar Minaya has his eyes set on Magglio and will outbid any team to get him. He (coleman) feels that Magglio's relationship with ex Whitesox manager, Manuel, whom he had an excellent relationship with will help in the recruiting. The Fan is saying that the Mets are now the heavy favorties to land Magglio Ordonez Coleman said that the Mets GM has had his eyes set on Ordonez since he got the job. Mets GM is going to see the workout this week with teams doctors. Coleman also said that the Mets have the money to outbid Detroit. He also said that the Cubs and Rangers were not going to be serious players for Maggs. Last thing he stated was that Mets GM said to him that he would be willing to go 12 mil a year gauranteed with incentives that could take the contract to as high as 14-15 mil a year but will only be willing to go 5 years max.
  19. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) You are comparing apples to oranges. First off, there are very few (unscalped) Cub tickets available. They will be sold out none the less. OTOH, there are always tons of Sox tickets available. Secondly, Sosa is far more idolized by kids than Maggs was. Folks who never got to take their kids to watch Sosa due to sell outs at Wrigley will come to Cell to show Sosa to their kids. Ok lets say your right, which I am not, but if so describe "tons" thousands? hundreds? or just a few.
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) This could be Boras stirring the pot as well. Crede and Weaver are both Boras clients. Let's also remember the White Sox originally drafted Weaver and they did not get him signed, negotiations were acrimonious. Lastly, I have a hard time envisioning the White Sox going out of their way to trade for a Boras client. Trading for a bOras client and negotiating with one are two different thigns. Eitherway it makes no sense as I have posted. I think TJ needs to simmer down. i crack myself up
  21. I don't believe any of it except that the Dodgers are looking for a 3b. Big deal. I don't even know who TJ whats his name is, but this makes very little sense, maybe two years from now when Fields is ready but not now. In addition, the sox would have to add payroll which KW had to ask JR to increase twice to get Iguchi. Some of these radio guys are just stupid. Even if the dodgers picked up half the 9 million, KW would need to get 4 million more approved for this year then find a 3b to boot. Lets be smart about this, would the sox be willing to go to 80 million for jeff Weaver? makes no sense other than the dodgers like crede. So what, so do other teams and in two years the Sox will trade him.
  22. Tons, I doubt it, some yes. If your theory holds true then would you say there will be a "ton" of sox fans going to wrigley if Maggs plays for the cubs? I suspect not.
  23. I think the other thing people forget is Maggs is hurt and will not be the same player he once was....ever. We got his best years, at a nice price. Cubs will only get him if he accepts a 1 or at most a 2 year deal. He should stay in the A - league so he can DH. 162 games in the field on a beat up leg could be tough.
  24. Listening to WMVP this morning, Bruce Levine who is wrong 90% of the time said the detriot contract was a sham. He said Boras floated that out there and that only two years of the contract are guarenteed which we all knew. Anyway, Bruce also said that the Cubs are looking at maggs workout this week and if good will be prepared to offer a 1 or 2 year deal at the most. anyway this was the big update from levine.
  25. This is a silly subject until the end of the season. Lots can change. I know its slow this time of year, but lets wait to see how the season plays itself out. Thomas could be injured all year and it will be a moot point. konerko could revert back to 230 and 22 HR's. They both could get hurt or they both could excel. Payroll is higher this year than last, it will probably go up marginally next year as well. If we win the damn division we will have money. We hav enot even played a game this year and we are worried about next year. As we found out the last two years, we are extremely active in the offseason. Lots can happen. Don't let Phil Rogers impress you. He sits in a chair and speculates just like we do. Difference is he gets paid for it.
