  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Stop yourself. Anyone can read the MLB free agent tracker, I was reading it the same time we were talking about it. What is it with this goofy "I have to be the 1st one to mention it" thing you've got going on, I mean, are you totally whacked out or what? Will you please eat some carbs, it is affecting you worse than ever, I'm serious, and you know what I'm sayin'. On topic ... Aurilia ... if they get him, he would be one of two guys they get. Which is what I've been saying all along, you know what I'm sayin'. Now, go eat some carbs, you're nuts, please. So you knock me for being the first to mention this three months ago, and you back up your argument with "I have been saying this all along" I wish others understood your flambouyant awareness of the obvious. It appears your back to drinking during the daytime hours. Back on the subject: Aurilla makes sense because he can play multiple positions. I agree this would be in addition to getting another player to play second.Still holding out for a trade or iguchi. You can forget the Durham thing. Won't happen, and the dude on the other web site needs to update his rumor.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Aurilia has been talked about on and off for a while here. It's interesting to note he's played a lot of 3B as well. I'd imagine the White Sox will be linked with just about every available veteran middle infielder until they settle on someone. Who was the first guy you heard this from this offseason? You have one guess.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Don't tell Quickman that about Munoz. The Sox can go three ways at the moment, by either signing Iguchi, trading for a Castillo or Durham, or standing pat with Willie Harris and Wilson Valdez. KW needs to ask himself what will be more important to the team, a second baseman who can bat 2nd in the order, hit for a high average with a good OBP and get some steals, or one of the best lefty relievers in the game who could get back to his 2002-2003 form and post a sub 2.00 ERA. I'd be for signing Iguchi and keeping Marte, and I would have even signed Cairo instead if he was still available, but we may yet see Marte dealt. But I don't think Munoz or Cotts will step up in 2005 and post great numbers that can replace Marte's output, not this season anyway. By the way I wasn't arguing with you earlier. Beck seems to be all over this thing. Its almost like he is negotiating for all the teams
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Where did I say the Sox got Cora? I'm saying that you were one who wanted to go after him. And yes, Iguchi is an upgrade over Harris. I don't know what the hell we're even arguing, other than the point that you think he's horse s***, while I think he's alright -- nothing great, just alright. if I gave you the impression that I am argueing with you, I apologize. I am not argueing with you. This is a complete disagreement on willie harris. I think jsut being alright is not good enough. I do think Cora would be better, but that is actually beside the point. I think alot of players would be better.
  5. sounds like the lead socks are hte Red Sox, anyway even through translation, I ahve no clue whats happening here. I think it said he is coming here for four days. The white sox were interested but the Japanese side cut off negotiations. Looks like he is coming to see the red sox. is that what you got out of it?
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Nice stats, good analysis. But like any analysis using stats, there are holes. What about defense, for one? Castillo is an all star caliber 2B, another thing to consider is, how many of the hitters you mention walk more than they strike out like Castillo does? Your points are well taken but they are certainly not the entire equation, just as any stat based argument. BTW I like Marte a lot and would not like to see him traded. But there is a fair exchange for every player. In addition Ozzie loves him lots of other teams like him. He probably gets along with his teamates, listens to coaches and works really hard. The sox hit alot of HR's last year, so what. Big deal. We are re-tooling. We need winners, gamers.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Good info, thank your friend for us. My guess? The Chicago White Sox. Reinsdorf wouldn't have said 50/50 unless he felt it would happen. Reinsdorf in the hospital today ... angioplasty. no s***, where did you here that.
  8. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) I have a good friend who is japaneese read Tadahito website for me. He says in the news section that Tadahito and his agent will be coming to the United States to talk contract to a certain team the site doesnt mention what team it will be visiting for a few days.. Please provide the link. i know someone that can read jap. I would like to understnad it better.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) As the crow flies? Easy lightning, put down the caffiene. Uribe at SS, and Valdez backing him up, all while going for a pennant? Doesn't compute. There will still be a shakeup with this infield, lots of time b/4 spring training starts. BTW, 72 and sunny in Tucson today. Jim there is no doubt in my mind we will either pick up a SS or second baseman. We will go nowhere with this infield.
  10. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) You only have one full season worth of months to select from. It's hard to reach a certain level of consistency when you're thrust into a role you're not ready for, and then the coaching staff gives up on you. Everyone complains about his cockiness, but that leaves with maturity. Let the kid get a chance to mature, let the kid get a chance to play in a role where he doesn't have as much pressure on him. He has loads of potential, and he's going to put up good numbers this year. There's going to be alot of eating crow after this season is over. Then the crows will need to be changing cities, because this guy will not finish the year as the Sox second baseman. No way.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) No, people don't think he's gonna be an all-star. But when you bring up a name like Alex Cora (yeah, I know he's signed), who does the exact same thing as Harris, only Harris is younger, I/we feel that Harris is a better option because a.), he's cheaper, and b.), I/we feel he'll improve upon his .343 OBP/19 steals, which isn't terrible to begin with... Yes, Iguchi is an upgrade. But don't tell me that Cora would have been, because that's totally untrue... I don't think the Sox got Cora. Right? right. The sox continue to try to find a 2nd baseman despite all the willie Harris fans around here. He is obviously not wanted on this team. We may end up being stuck with him, but sox brass appears to not like him. i will take there word over any stats you can produce. I will tkae my own eyes watching every game, over the fantasy of teenagers who think he is great. There is something that is not right with this guy. If he were to have a huge upside I don't think the sox would be looking at all ends of the earth to replace him. Nuff said
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) Unbelievable. I had heard he quit, I thought maybe from Steff, not certain. Yup ... it's a lot easier to run with all that smoke in your lungs, huh Willie? (Doing my best quickman impersonation), Is he nuts, or what?!? Anytime you want to check your email
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Bag Willie all you want about his stealing ability and rightfully so, but he shouldn't be criticized for his On Base Percentage, especially compared to others on this team. Harris - .343 OBP Podsednik - .313 OBP Perez (just for Gene) - .285 OBP The conversation is about his dumb comment of stealing 65 bases. There are very few except the people on this board who like this guy. This board falls in love with players. He is a second rate player who everyone here seems to think he will be some sort of allstar. The Sox continue to try to find replacements and make comments as if he should be replaced. Harris needs to be humble and do what the coaches say. He is not a leader, he is not even a full time major leaguer and he is making statements like he will lead the league in Stolen bases. Its nuts. He should shut his piehole and learn to play ball.
  14. QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Im confused. What did Willie say that makes him a dumbass. He said hed steal 65 bases that doesnt make him a dumbass. Well, I would just say he is in no postion to make absolute comments like this. I guess We would all be guilty of being dumb if we actaully believed he is capable of stealing 65 bases on this team or any other in major league baseball. Its nice and pleasant that he has set some extremely high goals for himself. Maybe he should set a goal for actually getting on base. Maybe Willie needs to stick to making the team and having his manager on his side before he sets his sites on leading the league in stolen bases. I assume if you steal that many bases your at the top of the crowd.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) I didn't catch that, but did have a little fun on Sunday when they replayed the Reinsdorf interview from Friday nite. One particular "Notice Me! Notice Me!" individual who likes to hear himself talk commented how "lots of Sox fans think the Lee trade was a salary dump" and "how do you (Reinsdorf) feel that lots of fans think that way?". Levine, despite having a bad week last week, promptly b****slapped this guy by saying, "how about just saying what YOU think instead of trying to speak for other people?". LOL, a classic. My guess is this individual has tried to speak for "lots of Sox fans" before and those taking the questions are a bit tired of his ranting. jim if I am not mistaken, that guy that asked that question is from this board.
  16. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) hmm i just might have been a slip by Ozzie. And then when the question arose to Kenny about Iguchi he said he will like to stay quiet and remain at a low profile. He wouldn't say that if he wasn't still interested. Iguchi would be an upgrade. But when i talked to Willie Harris he told me he would steal 65 bases. Willie seems pumped this year, I think Willie needs a lot of playing time to flourish, kind of like how Rowand did. Willie is an idiot. What a stupid thing to say. Its one thing to get pumped and another to be a complete dumbass.
  17. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) I was kiddin, but I was wearing a name tag...don't diss the nametag, yo! Ross, do yourself another favor, don't wear a name tag.
  18. folks, we all love graffinino. LEts remember he is hurt and had surgery on his shoulder and labrum. I would like to see if the guy can throw first, wouldn't you?
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) I've been back for a few days, thought you were skiing ... ? As for your questions, they can never have enough depth, you know that. Look at their starting five, it's naive to suggest none of them will miss a start. They need more than Grilli waiting in the wings. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the non roster invites is Roberto Hernandez, you know Guillen is familiar with him and they may want to see if Roberto has anything left. That builds depth for the closer role, which they are clearly concerned about. Graffanino ... if healthy, big "if". Rotator cuff and labrum surgery, ouch. Pretty hard to throw from SS or 3B if he's not 100%. The info out of KC says he'll be ready for Spring training and they're counting on him to be the regular at 2B, they think Gotay needs more time. I'm sure the Sox would be interested but they are wary of trading with KC. On the other issue, I have no idea if the clubhouse fits Graffanino's personal expectations, nor do I care. If you're traded to the Chicago White Sox ... get over it and fit in. Period. My comments were based on things I'd read in the media, that he was comforable under Manuel but possibly not Guillen. Guillen is far more salty than Manuel, no doubt. Big party at Peanuts Friday nite ... a group from Philly, a 60th b-day party. Wild scene, lots of fun. We ended up in a line dance. I had the Philly chicken sandwich, very good. BTW $1 drafts of Rolling Rock on Saturdays at the Brick. Nikki got sick thursday night. Puked all over. needless to say we cancelled sking. Going next weekend though.
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) It'd be very smart for them to bring in a few pitchers on minor league deals for depth purposes. Graffanino is also a good idea but I have concerns whether or not he's healthy. He was really banged up last year, I recall he had a leg injury as well. The other factor to consider here is the White Sox and Kansas City haven't made a trade since the late 1980's if I'm not mistaken. They rarely if ever deal with each other. Well apparently your back. it was peaceful there for a while. Are you saying that the whitesox don't have enough pitching depth in there great minor league system? i think it would have been better if graf never left. He would be a good pick up if healthy, and I am certain KC wants as much payroll cut to rebuild. Do you think the whitesox locker room is more christian today than last year? Hell with everyone pointing to the sky after a hit and everyone signing the cross when they cross the plate you would think the team is religous enough for the guy. They need to add a few pitchers to minor league contracts not just one. grilli and Diaz does nothing for me.
  21. Nope just going back to the last two days and then Wills today. Don't these guys read the papers? Websites? Wires? Its crazy. Does Wills completely check out of baseball life in the winter? These guys are suppose to know at least as much as contirbutors to a bulliten board. Why doesn't Wills know that Colbert signed on with a japanese team? I am tired of this. i want to be able to hear things from insiders that I don't already know. "I don't know who else the Whitesox are targeting right now" is a s*** hole answer from Wills.
  22. I am beginning to figure this oput, there are just as many whitesox fans who are stupid as cub fans. These questions suck. In addition, I will get on my bandwagon again about these so called Experts. Wills obviously does not pay attention to who's pick up and who isn't. between he and levine, ESPN insiders Blow chunks.
  23. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) The sox are fine in the power dept. They have more than enough guys to hit over 20 hrs--Uribe, Rowand, Crede, dye, Frank PK, Everett. An experienced middle IFer is more important. Rather than a power guy, a tablesetter/ #2 hitter would be far more valuable for 2b/ SS. Esp in case Pods doesn't come close to his 2003 yr. Agreed, we have enough power.
  24. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) He is no longer getting paid i believe. So his signing no longer affects us. It doesn't effect us now, but this just makes the sox manaagment gun shy about signing young players to big payouts. He will not be here after this year.
  25. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Didn't this guy ask JR what was the best and worst move THIS YEAR? Not ever.... I guess I heard it that way anyways... He did but the old man didn't listen
