QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) On topic ... several White Sox players like a cold PBR. Off topic ... how hard is it? Don't try, just do it. It's made by Miller, distributed by the same guys. It will differentiate them. Keep pushing them, I will as well. I told them it's on tap at U.S. Cellular and some guys go out of their way to get a PBR on tap. On topic ... I saw Ray Durham having a beer at Tucson Electric Park a few years ago, do not know if it was PBR. LOL on this whole thing, ps Durham is a huge longshot but it shows the sox are looking at trades as well. They have cotts to dangle, adkins and harris as well.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) I don't think the Giants would pony up the $$ to cover that big contract, Sox will not take it all on. Or even the majority. It's a bloated contract. And Durham supposedly was unhappy with the organization when he left, but who knows about that. It does make sense the Giants want out from under the contract, and wouldn't want him in the NL. I'm surprised they couldn't trade Durham to the Yankees, they have always liked Durham. Seems like the Sox have "x" amount of budget for a 2B and that's that. Who went to Peanuts, you and uncle? How was the food? BTW, in the men's room at the Lantern there is a calendar of events, on Tuesday 1/11 it says "Happy 30th B-Day Terri". Same as my dad, 45 yrs. apart though. My dad met her last month, he said he'd remembered her from b-4. Terri was very pregs at the time. My dad said ... "I can see why ... CUTE". Cialis, anyone?? wife and one of my daughters. Food was better this time. Wings are very good there. Liked them. Better experience this time.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) Right near the intersection of 75th and Washington. Good to know if I need to dump some tickets.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) We walked by Peanuts at 7 pm, did not see you. We were at Lantern. split a burger, Cobb salad, and chili, and an order of wings, excellent. You should've emailed you were going to Peanuts, oh well. On topic ... I have no doubt the Sox inquire about a ton of guys. It happens every day in baseball. What's more important to this discussion is it seems like every guy they're inquiring about lately are second basemen. I wonder what they can get for Willie in trade. talked to the owner he said he is trying hard to get pabst on tap.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) Great place. Where do you live in naper?

Left at exactly 6;45, my uncle said they should just give harris to somebody so he doesn't have to look at his face anymore.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) I clipped out certain sections of your post, but there is an underlying fact here. The White Sox have a problem with Willie Harris. If this rumor is true and they're inquiring about Ray Durham, what does that tell us? Simply put, the White Sox are exploring every possible alternative to Harris. Doesn't matter who likes Harris and who doesn't. What matters is what White Sox management thinks. It's becoming more and more obvious that Guillen carries a big stick in terms of personnel decisions. Agreed, i personally think there is not much to the durham thing, although its a nice thought. id the peanuts thing tonight. PS Looks like the tigers are looking at maggs.
-
Let me please add one more thing. I think if they inquired, you can bet on this. Willie harris is not playing second this year. For all of you guys who love Harris, the sox continue to try to find other options at second. Thank god, it is no secret I hate Harris.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Steff reports that according to Ray's brother Chad the Sox have inquired about Ray. How recently they did is unknown, Steff is trying to find out what is going on, but she'll be going out of town, thus she may not find out for awhile. I know and I am sure that His brother knows that the sox inquired. Big deal. They inquire about alot of people. Look, i am just saying this is much different than others. With AJ, we made an offer, it was in the press, all over the internet and radio, same with iguchi. offers were made and all press knew about it. This could merely be, "hey we like Ray, he has a fan base hear, heard you are looking around for a taker, what do you want?" Could be that simple. All along the deal for iguchi is still on the table. I would rather have iguchi for half the price. This just doesn't make sense unless there are some legs to this stuff. Why would the sox not pay 5 million a year for durham three years ago, but are willing to pay 6 million now. I just don't think it can happen without a large portion of salary paid by the giants. Just my opinion. Nice player that is overpaid. Lets wait until it actually hits some mainstream media.
-
Until this hits some media in this part of the country, I am chalking this up to rhetoric from a sports station in SF that wants to get rid of durham and his high salary.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Willie and a prospect would be my guess. I hope not Marte but I think the Giants would ask for him. However, I think it was rather documented that Ozzie was never all that pleased with Marte. But if the Sox deal Marte they better get another reliever. I don't want to see them weaken the bullpen. I do really want Ray Ray here though. Here is a question though, would it be less of a loss if they then picked up someone like Rob Nenn. if true, i do think Willie will go in the trade plus another minor leaguer. Lets hope they want diaz back, but knowing the Giants they know what they got rid of!
-
I know this makes for great fodder but shouldn't we all just relax. One we have no written proof of anything. two, whoever started this rumor just keep folks up to date. I just think until this gets picked up by other media its just nonsense. it seems to be an awlful lot of money for a guy that is 3 or four years older than when he left. I like the idea but, its just the word of a radio station that is 3000 miles away.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Wow ... a little harsh I would say. Stoned or dumbest person on earth? C'mon. IMO he's improved significantly from a rocky first year. When you hear him on Fox game of the week, for some reason he's even better. I've heard some mediocre sidekick announcers in close to 40 yrs. of listening to and watching baseball, DJ is not the greatest but he's far from the worst. He knows a lot about the game and should be given more of an opportunity to impart that knowledge during the broadcasts. Ok, well as long as we are into opinions rather than facts, I don't necessarily care for him and would rather have Stone. What if for whatever reason DJ decided to call it quits, then would Stone be appropriate? Total speculation of course. I personally enjoy stone and I do think Hawk has respect for him. The last person I think Hawk had real and total respect for was drysdale. I think our broadcasts would be much better and more professional.

sometimes its not a matter of the sox just going out and getting someone. maybe cairo just wanted to stay in New York. Who knows, but it is a nice price, for a guy who will no doubt come off the bench for the mets.
-
QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 04:16 AM) Just vurious, does anyone have any info on contract statuses of both DJ and Hawk? Sox just signed DJ to a 5 year deal in the spring of last year.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) Full-partial what's the difference I think that's why though, I think the season ticket holders have to wait for some reason. Ok, its good that you got your tickets. always exciting.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) Nope, not joking. Quick you're a partial season ticket holder right?? I think that probably has something to do with it, I got the 13(well it's actually 14) game package. Like I said I'm very excited, first opening day for me nope I am a full season ticket holder (4 seats ) parking pass and Stadium club. Looks like I have another call to make on monday.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) I'd assume you would be able to get atleast a couple, I got all my tickets in the mail today, very exciting and I'll be going to opening day also What? your kidding? I tlaked to my rep today and he said thye are not even to print until the end of the month.
-
Zero, there are at the most 12,000 season ticket holders, at least that is there goal. Season ticket holders can buy additional tickets. I highly doubt they would buy out the park. So I am certain if you buy early you can get tickets.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) Thats about what Cora will cost, imo. Terrific lets go get him
-
Rotoworld is reporting that the Mets offered Cairo a 900k one year deal. its pending a physical. Pretty good price.
-
Jim H can you please give Rosie a call and find out if there is anything to this?
-
I actually do not doubt he wants to stay in chicago, and I know from what he said that he and JR are friends, but they just signed DJ to a 5 year contract, and they seem to like him. I jsut have a hard time thinking they would replace DJ. By the way I like Stone alot better than DJ but this just doesn't make sense.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) I don't know if this means anything, but I remember back when Stone left the Cubs, Bruce was on Comcast and he predicted Bruce would end up with the Sox in some capacity. bruce?

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 02:01 AM) He also went on Mac, Jurko and Harry the other day. and talked about what? i am sure not the Whitesox.
