  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) It also appears Barry Larkin will retire, there is an article from today or yesterday where he's quoted as saying he's leaning toward retirement big time. Ahh no s*** sherlock...I bring you back to our conversation the other day.
  2. There are several reasons why the sox will not pursue. Crede, is cheap and still has time , at least two years to prove he is capable. The second is Josh Fields whom we drafted first and is on the fast track. If he is any good he should be ready in three years when Crede will start making more money. The Third is the bidding process. We will not pay money just to negotiate, then pay more money to sign. Those are the reasons. Qwerty is right.
  3. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) Giants resigned him. didn't you cover this in other threads, in fact this whole subject has been covered 4 times over in the 24 hours.
  4. thanks for the rah rah...this is a dead end thread.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) Sometimes your bluntness drives me up a wall, but I believe you're entitled this time. I especially like the last three sentences. What will be interesting is where he goes, and what they get for him. I would suspect a lower level team who can live with the eccentricities. My bluntness comes out when I see five threads saying the same bulls***, or when I see some goofy survey asking what someone will bat. Its nuts. We got a better player who is more fundamentally sound and knows how to play the game. Its that simple. I don't see what the problem is. They want certainn players, Willie doesn't fit. End of discussion. Move on people.
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Sigh. Where to start ... 1. It certainly appears many Sox personnel and those associated with the team feel he rubs people the wrong way and is a clubhouse ... problem. 2. He's not a bench player, he really only played well when he got lots of playing time. 3. Iguchi was not brought here to platoon, not at $2.4M per yr. 4. Harris can't play the other IF positions. 5. He has acknowledged trouble bunting. 6. He struggles stealing bases. 7. See #1 My god how many threads is this now. Who cares about Willie Harris? I mean really, how can this be? he is nothing and never will be. Get over it youngsters. He was overrated as a minor leaguer. He is what he is. That's it. he was suppose to be Ray durham junior, but faster. He will never be that good. Furthermore, he is probably not suited for the bench, he will sulk and wine like a cry baby. I have seen all the opinions about his chances, but if OZZIE and KW are in charge this guy won't see time. Maybe he didn't get a shot, but who the hell cares. Willie Harris is not a star, he certianly would not have taken us to the playoffs. He is nothing but a punch and Judy hitter with no gap power. He doesn't know when to steal a base, he can't bunt worth a s***.Sometimes I think people fall in love with players and not the team. KW is probably the most agressive GM this year. He is doign his job.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:19 PM) Who do you bring in next, now that your guy Aurilia is off the board? i truly believe it will be a trade. No free agent, a trade. We have minor leaguers to trade and possibly a reliever in Adkins. personally I think KW is already workign on it, and will probably announce something soon. Hopefully, we won't give away some guy in the minors that everyone on the board has fallin in love with. Wouldn't want to give away our precious resources.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) There IS a God... I am thrilled. What a day!
  9. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) Yeah its incredibly stupid for the Sox to keep a dirt cheap player around, when we can put all of our eggs into the Iguchi basket. I hope Iguchi is outstanding, but to say it would be stupid to have a cheap plan B, I just dont understand. For all the hate for Harris, I wonder why so many people dont hate Crede? Ah well, I hope the Sox do not knee jerk sell Harris at the lowest possible price. SB I hate crede!
  10. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) According to Bruce Levine, the White Sox had no personal contact with Iguchi. They used the MLB service I-Scout, which includes game film, to scout Iguchi. They also discussed Iguchi with Shingo and he had some good words for him. Levine also said that he thinks Willie Harris' tenure with the White Sox may be coming to an end. He thinks Iguchi is out full-time starter at 2B. all he needed was to come to this board for his info.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) That is not a revelation, most minor league pitchers don't make it. But that is not the topic being discussed here, please attempt to stay on topic. Why would you go with an unproven backup when your IF situation is largely unproven? And, you're trying to position the team to make a run at a title? Doesn't make sense. Why are you askign me such a question? because I don't think they will get larkin? Please... Stop this crap. larkin is not coming here. Who will, I don't know. But not larkin,.
  12. QUOTE(gotoh00 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) For a better look at Iguchi go to http://www.tadahito-iguchi.com can he bunt and hit to the rightside? !!!!
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) Way to go out on a limb. here is a limb..I think the bulk (90%) of the sox pitchers in there minor league system, SUCK and will never make it. I think we need better talent evaluators. Take that limb and shove it.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) I do, nyah nyah nuh nyah nyah!!! I don't... iguchi goochi goochi goo.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) In a-rows second year, his avg and OPB was lower than willie's does that mean that A-row was pretty much worthless to this organization??? Well I guess you can say that about alot of players, it appears the sox believed that Arow would improve. It appears the sox don't believe that Willie will improve. i think that wraps it up. By the way I think borchard blows, Crede blows as well. you can write those down as players who will only improve slightly. i beleive the sox know it as well.
  16. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Not that much. Just that Ozzie likes to talk, so you hear a lot of it. The announcers tend to echo Sox management, so I just don't take too much from that (witness the sea change that occurred when Jimenez left -- from 'we don't see that at all' to 'worst teammate in the game'). If you look at the minor league reports, everyone praises his leadership and attitude. That's from both partial and impartial sources. And you didn't hear anything snide after the Sox got him, like you did w/ Jimenez leaving the Padres. So he's confident, why is that at ALL bad? He's never (as far as I've heard) said anything negative about his teammates, only positive things about himself. And he's never gone to the press complaining when he loses time or gets thrown into a different position. So I will continue to see Harris as a model citizen as long as I see nothing solid behind all this talk. Look, not argueing, but can't everyone see that the sox DO NOT like HArris. they have reasons, none of which we will ever know. They don't like him. Its really that simple.
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) You're getting into this debate rather late. There is a huge difference between Rowand and Harris that any educated Sox fan will be sure to point out. With Harris, you have attitude problems and questions of desire. With Rowand, you do not. Harris has fallen out of grace with the Sox organization for a reason...something to chew on. Excellent and factual. All true. Rowand also hits 20 hrs, is great defensively and the fans like him. Harris can't bunt hit a fly ball to the track, and most fans hate him. Biggest difference the sox hate him
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) I wonder if you were calling for the trade of A-row 2 years ago??? Not the same ballplayer nor will he ever be. Rowand would be excellent trade bait.
  19. Harris is gone, we will get a minor leaguer for him, also, I wonder if Willie thinks he will steal 60 bases now. Dumb ass.
  20. I think its great that we have a smart pitcher and one who studies. The Big league is not average though and if he misses the strike zone by a half inch the ball is gone. I will wait to get excited about this guy. lets see how he does in spring training this year.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) The only invasive surgery done in Austria was to repair a minicus tear according to this article, so while Boras my not be forthcoming, he is not lying. And, if true, shows White Sox team doctors missed this tear while repairing the other one, which they missed a few times. The shock treatment was non- invasive. Boras is fully aware no team will sign Magglio without a workout or 2 and a stringent medical exam. Time will tell if the procedure works. Magglio would be in the same boat or worse had he elected not to go to Austria. He actually avoided more surgery by going there, and by best case scenerio wouldn't have been able to go full out until at least March, so the White Sox wouldn't have and couldn't have or shouldn't have offered him arbitration if he elected conventional treatment. One other thing to add to this entire story, a pretty credible poster at WSI, who claims to be a doctor and is quite familiar with Dr. Weil said that Dr. Weil is or at least was a White Sox shareholder. Your post is a good one, but lets remember somethign about WSI they gave us the following: The rumor of Steve Stone possibly taking over for DJ, the rumor of Durham coming to the sox, the rumor of Iguchi signing on the eve of Soxfest. I think they just make up a bunch of s*** over there. But on your post I agree with your assessment. Well thought out.
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) This Castillo rumor is heating up folks. Hearing about it from a couple of 'sources'. Please share your sources.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) You already have a ticket if you need it B. where are you sitting this year.
  24. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) 3 months ago? You were still on the "they'll trade Konerko" bandwagon 3 months ago. All that protein is turning your brain to mush. You are forgetting way too much ... are you truly nuts??? Like I said, anyone can read the MLB FA tracker, which most of us did, oh, in October or so. You've made four left turns and guess what, you're still in the same place. Bottoms up, have a Manhattan. Aurilia can play 3B but not well. He really only played 3B last year with the Padres if I remember correctly (check the MLB FA tracker to double check). He played a little 2B as well but most of his experience is at SS as you know. He is not a better SS than Uribe at this stage of his career IMO. So adding Aurilia does what, exactly? If you want to bounce Uribe around again, it does make sense. Doesn't appear that's what Ozzie wants to do, he wants Uribe as the #1 SS. Unless there's something going on they're not telling you ... Think about it. They don't like the 2B they have, there is not a SS out there better than Uribe (in their opinion), so Uribe is the main guy at SS. OK. They want to do two things: 1. Upgrade at 2B 2. Get a guy in who can capably back up SS, 2B, 3B. Suppose you bring in Iguchi, you and I both think that will still happen, unless the Manhattans are kicking in (try Elijah Craig by the way. I know you get to liking one thing and are impossible to move off the f***ing dime, but I have not steered you wrong yet). They get Iguchi, Harris gets moved. Then they bring in a Graffnino type guy. You get Iguchi, you still need a guy who can play a good 2B. What if Iguchi doesn't cut it? They need depth, and not Wilson Valdez type depth. Veteran depth. That's where a guy like Graff fits in. If you don't get Iguchi, Harris stays. And they bring in a guy who can play all 3 positions capably. Aurilia is not the guy to push Harris at 2B, he has very limited experience there. He played some 3B but not that well. Plus you have the roids issue, he was in SF when he had that big year. Plus they need speed off the bench. Aurilia is slow. At least Graff gives you a heads up baserunner and he can steal a base. This whole infield thing is unsettled, it's up in the air, I don't care what the PR machine says. Whatever is on the FA market right now is not a perfect fit, it just isn't. That's why a trade is likely. Iguchi will be the first domino IMO. Digest all that over a Manhattan ... it's past 12, no? Too much info, I will print and read this when I am taking a s***. Aurilia provides depth at 3rd and SS. Can't have everything, every player lacks something, but he provides that depth. Not saying he will start. I still think we will get a 2baseman. That's it and yes almost three months ago we talked about this on the phone. You didn't like it, I didn't like it, but for the budget he can provide some veteran back up. Also if true it tells me the grafinino thing is bulls***.
