QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) Quickman- are you referring to the guy on mlb.com (think it was Mayo) saying that if Poreda developed secondary stuff he could be as good as the guys at the top of the draft? All I did was read the quote somebody else posted. After It said Poreda said he was as good as the other pitchers drafted ahead of him. thats what a poster quoted. Therefore I jsut made a reference to him having an ego. thats it. Plain and simple. I did not know another perosn said it, not Poreda himself. therfore its a moot point. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Players get b****ed at for not having enough attitude, and now him saying this makes him have an ego? I'm glad to see you hate him before he pitches his first game. now How does this mean I hate him? Just because you do not care for my comments doesn't mean you cna stick words in my mouth. If he said what another poster wrote, I think he has a large ego for a guy with one pitch. Doesn't mean he is good, bad or I hate him.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) The question is, how does trading Haeger, Floyd, Phillips, McCullough or Broadway net us even a MLB quality starter in the OF, SS, 2B or catcher? We won't even be able to trade any of these picks for at least a year...if we wanted to, and we can't really go out and trade Gio, Russell, Masset and De Los Santos, so what's left to trade? actaully we can trade everyone you named because they are all about the same.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) If we have an infield problem right now, what makes you think some prospects are going to change it for next year? How about we build up our farm with the best possible players, and use them as trading pieces to fill our holes? Pitching prospects tend to be worth more in the trading market, so I understand where the Sox are coming from. I somewhat agree and knowing we do not sign them for more than 3 years we will need alot of them, but still there are all kinds of holes in the system.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) Joe Crede has a career .259 batting average, .305 on base, .446 slugging, and .750 OPS. Those are all significantly below average for a major league 3rd basement, and i can promise you Josh Fields won't have a damn .305 on base or .750 OPS, yet some fans will rip him since he's not "clutch" like Crede and strikes out too much. Figures. You don't even know if he will make it. Lets let him play a few years before you annoint him better than crede. Look at the great Brian andersen now. Hope he is saving his money because there will be no big payday.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) We are going to have to go on a Steinbrenner esque spending spree for position players if we are going to be. Our system has pitching, but is as bad as any in baseball for position players, but at least we adressed it today in the draft. where is the pitching in the system? QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) I never thought I'd see the day where I wish Pods was back. Yes, Jerry Owens is that pathetic. wasn't he on the projection board with andersen and sweeney?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) Please define "darn good" in terms of third basemen. You do realize there are a lot of great players who play third base, correct? this is no pissing match, just my opinion. You are entitled to yours. i am not here to convince you but I beleive you will miss him if you have to tolerate our farm system playing in front of 12,ooo fans .

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) I'm resigned to the fate we are better off falling way out of it and doing a firesale. Our present is bad either way, at least let's try to help the future. its not a fire sale when your ten games out. Its reality and smart thinking, only if you can get more than Gavin floyd in return.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) With the exception of 2006, Joe Crede has been in the bottom-third rank of the regular thir basemen in the MLB. i know you guys love stats and thats fine but Joe crede is a darn good 3baseman and he will be missed as we watch fields strike out a whole bunch. Now I am not saying take a huge chance on crede with his back, but he may go the way Maggs went, big injury and a big comeback with another team. My worry is that the sox really do not judge there farm well. Therefore people on KW 's so called projection board will lead us to low places in this division.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Can you imagine any possible way this team can be competitive over the next 3 seasons? they will compete with KC. But here is the deal, they will have alot of money to play with next year, it depends on what they do with it. If they use it they can compete, if they pocket it and go young then they won't compete for 5 years. KW is jerry krause, I don't think I trust him to rebuild a wood shed. So, no thye won't compete and we have no up and coming stars to mesh in with this team.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) I think Fields will eventually put up Crede numbers...but of course, Crede isn't an all-star. Alex Cintron really needs to be DFA'd. Hey Flash....where's our Rich Hill? Crede had a nice year last year and I rate him as one of the better 3bman in all of baseball. Doesn't mean he is great, just tha the is in the top percentage. Still our org blows.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Look at the team we have on the field tonight, combined with who's in our bullpen. What a disgrace. This team won't even finish .500. The lack of depth in our system is killing us with all these injuries. fathom I have kept telling these kids on this board that we have no system. we don't its simple, but people fall in love with these goofballs. There is not one star to be in our system. I still hold out for fields but our system blows.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) So, from watching Molina, Owens, Sweeney, and Fields so far.....do we teach our prospects to ground out every at-bat? i thought they were all going to be stars? !
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) Nope...we have more pitching depth in the minors than offense, yet we don't draft a single offensive player? The first 3 pitchers we took were fine....the last two were horrible picks. Meanwhile, the Tigers gave themselves a great chance to have an incredible rotation in a few seasons. Of course, this is the same crap every year. As I mentioned in another thread who is going to play the field. I suspect we do not like to pay our scouts. We drafted just a ton of pitchers. this whole thing is coming apart in every aspect of the organization. Its amazing at how fast its happening. KW will make a move very soon even though he claims he won't trade just to trade. he will in fact do that to shake things up. This is a nighmare.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:22 PM) Shaping up to be another terrible baseball day. Sox lose, Cubs win, Tigers/Indians win....combine that with an average draft, and I'm looking for a positive today. You don't like the way we drafted?
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) Or he could never make it out of the minors. Poreda sounds like he has some excitement in his voice and he wants to get pitching... Will Poreda sign? "Yes, definitley." What are you talking about? The analysts at the draft specifically mentioned poreda saying that he could be as good as any of the pitchers at the top of the draft. This tells me he thinks he is as good as any other pitcher in the draft. Therefore I think he has a large ego considering other pitchers picked far ahead of him have much better stuff. Get it now?
-
QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) first - Andy Sisco? We're calling him Andy now? second - The analysts at the draft specifically mentioned poreda saying that he could be as good as any of the pitchers at the top of the draft. always good to have an ego. Apparently he just needs some pitches to go along with that.
-
I would love to know who will play the field as we draft all these wonderful pitching projects. Do we not have other needs? When we need to bring up a ss or 2bman or even a catcher will there be one to be found?

QUOTE(spiderman @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) Regarding Our Top Prospects - whether it be Gio Gonzalez, Lance Broadway, Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, Josh Fields, or others - does our organization overrate them ? I'm thinking specifically about the OF's right now as a lot of our pitching prospects still haven't made its way to the majors, but is Ryan Sweeney going to be a complementary OF or a difference maker. Same for Brian Anderson. You kidding me?

Joe Crede to 15 day DL, Josh Fields called up from AAA.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) It's strange that you feel the need to interject your feelings about him in random conversations. Did anyone here say that he'd be an all-star one day? And he hasn't been a number one prospect in a few years. yes but he was our number 1 prospect and the love for him was immense. still don't know why you are paying attention. I am not breaking any rules, just ignore. The reason for his name in this thread was to remind folks that our high prospects fail all the time. it could happen to Fields, lets hope it doesn't. known players are always the best players. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) TQ, He's not even close to that this year. In fact, offensively he is in the bottom 3rd, defensively, he is still up in the top five. As far as his clutch-ness, check out how many guys he has been leaving on base. He is flat out hurting the team right now, and its at least nice to have a guy who may actually bring some healthy at bats onto the field. I personally think Josh could put up the same numbers offensively as Crede right now. I thought our number 1 prospect was Danks, then Gior? i am stating anderson was once a number 1 he was drafted in the top 15. he should have been better. Danks caem from another org, and GIO's jury is deliberating. My point to this whole amtter is you young people love to fall in love with these scrubs. they ahve about a 10% chance. have not been wrong yet. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) This is actually a good point. I personally think Fields is overhyped, and don't think he'll be much of a major leaguer. But he only has to hit .216 to be giving you 2007 Joe Crede production, and he's probably capable of that. Its not saying much but Crede's been garbage this year. he has been hurt no doubt. but I understand your point. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) Why do you feel the need to mention Anderson at every opportunity? Did he refuse to give you an autograph or something? I just like to mention him because everyone here thought he was a god. they all identified with his tremendous ability and attitude. I just want to remind everyone that our number 1 prospect actually sucks, therefore not getting the hopes to high for our other soon to be failures. By the way why does it bother you so much. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 04:59 PM) I'll be disapointed if Fields doesn't turn into a better overall hitter than Crede within 4 years. For as clutch as Crede was at the end of the season in 2005 and the beginning of 2006, he sure did seem to fail a lot in clutch situations the last 100 games or so of his Sox career. pain has a tendency to do that to you. anyway, we are running out of prospects to parade around. The very best hting that could happen is fields does well, and when crede gets better we trade him, anything short of that would be dissapointing for all involved. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) I was never calling for Fields like a lot of others were. In fact, I laugh(ed) at all the people that believe Fields is going to make our offense that much better. I'm saying, you're giving him way too much credit for his offensive abilities. He's a great defensive 3rd baseman, and he is clutch when he is healthy, but he hurts our team overall much more when he is hurt than he helps. actaully I said he was an allstar caliber 3baseman who was a clutch hitter. i never said he was a great hitter, i never actauly said he is great period. But i do believe he is one of the premier 3baseman in baseball and if not hurt he would be recognized for that. as for Fields, i hope he does well because he is all we have down there. if he does what the great Brian "surfer dude" andersen did then we completely blow. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) Crede's not all-star caliber. Not even healthy. The reason some people are so excited about Fields is they're tired of Crede popping up softly to the right side. One person told me so explicitly, and I know that others agree. I suppose I disagree. But hey maybe fields can be in 10 years. we have that to look forward to! I better get down to the store and get my jersey changed. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) Sure, let's just ignore the fact that his back hasn't been 100% since 2005 and that he hasn't been very good at all at the plate this season. Which is why you would be excited? Not sure the logic -

quickman replied to marsh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
wow, you guys must really think fields is going to be great, with all this excitement around here You would think we just got chavez to take crede's place. Crede is an allstar caliber 3b who is a clutch hitter. Fields is nowhere near crede, I am surprised that people would be excited to see our runner up gold glove 3rd baseman go down. Why don't we just call up all our farm boys, everyone here loves those guys better than the pro guys anyway. All these guys come up and have a good game or two and then the scouts file their reports and they can't hit or pitch worth a damn. Everytime we call these guys up we are at risk of not getting value when we trade them because teams know they are either not ready or they never will be ready.
