  1. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) You can't have 12 pitchers and then use that 12th guy once every two weeks and expect him to be sharp. Adkins did good for an inning or so and got that DP grounder with the sacks full, but lost it the next inning. I am just as dissapointed in our 2 aces not pitching for squat. nicely put I agree.
  2. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Bringing up Adkins and going with 12 pitchers was a big mistake. Next thing we knew, Everett pulled up lame. Now Pods is lame. And Adkins gives up 2 big runs tonight in a game that could have made Boston sweat anyway. We can't afford to go with only 12 healthy fielders. Personally, I would have kept Gload and let him play. Everett can play left field, and Iguchi/Rowand can hit 1-2. The Sox don't need to worry about overworking their pitchers as much as keeping a lineup healthy. Vizcaino can use more work. It makes him sharper. And Jenks is a full member out there. I would send Adkins down and have Gload back tomorrow, even if it is a 1 pm game. adkins pitched in a game that appeared and was out of reach. He gave some rest for our other ineffective relievers. I really don't understand this post at this time. Ozzie decided on 12 pitchers. Just go pick another down there that can go 2-3 innings if needed. Thats why he is here. Rosters will expand in two weeks you will have all the hitters you want.
  3. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) I didn't call you stupid. I disagree with you the majority of the time, but I've never called you stupid. Sorry if you took my 'day job' comment that way... Adkins got killed tonight, and the idea to call him up was still a bad one, IMO. He has nothing, and simply isn't all that good. Munoz/Diaz/Baj would all have been better choices. Why hasn't either been traded for? Well, not many times a 27-28 year old will be the main part of a package. I wouldn't have been surprised, however, if the Sox did make a trade, to see Baj as a fill in, sort of like Majewski last year. And that's not a bad thing -- Majewski is having (last time I checked) a darn good season for the Nats. I love certain minor league players. It's tough to make a blanket statement like that. And I reiterate (sp?), that I don't think Bajenaru is a bullpen stud, nor do I think Gload is a starter. I do think Gload can start, but I don't think he's a starter -- if you understand me. What I'm saying, is basically -- if a team has enough fire power at other positions -- say a team like Boston -- then yes, at league minimum, I think Ross Gload is a good option, because he can give you real good defense at first, and league average production. On a team like the White Sox? Not so much. We need power from that spot, he wouldn't be a good fit there. But you can't disagree with me in saying that he should be on the team. He'd EASILY be the best bat off the bench, something that we'll need in the playoffs. In fact, Gload and maybe even Brian Anderson should make our playoff roster -- IMO. Ok first I do not care if you disagree with me. i am cool with that. I did take exception to when you said "That's some real s***ty scouting report, because it's awfully stupid to judge a guy off of eight IP." and "Quick saying that he's just gonna be a #4-#5 is one of the dumbest things I've read on this site in a while." Figured those were meant for me. It doesn't matter, reality is Baj is not here and there is a reason for it. Gload is not here and there is a reason for that. I don't believe our system is that great. I do think there will be call ups and they will get a chance to play in september because we will clinch early. Gload will be here for sure, I do not think Baj will but I maybe wrong. I could care less about adkins. Andersen and or borachrd will come up. I do not know about the playoff roster because I hope and pray we will make a trade because I do not think we are good enough to win this thing. As for my day job I will keep it. I hope you have a good one as well.
  4. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Based on the Sox recent lack of success with pitchers, I understand your pessimism. I'm old enough to remember that drafting pitchers and developing them was the only thing they did right. Hopefully they have been more unlucky than anything. I am going to cling to the hope that he will be more than a #4-5. He is still rail thin and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he adds a few pounds and a couple of miles per hour. Not that velocity is the be all end all. But it would be nice if his repertoire included 95 instead of 92 for a fastball. After that I think he has shown nothing but glimpses of plus major league pitches - curveball and change up. Shouldn't be all that hard for him to add a wrinkle to his fastball - like a cutter. His attitude and poise are pluses. His location and feel for pitching, likewise, seem to belie his age. For now I think #4-5 is shooting too low. Picking those numbers is arbitrarily leaning on the overall lack of success of recent pitching hopefuls. They have nothing to do with Brandon. Ottawa, if your concerned about mcarthy's fastball what do you think about Broadways 90 mile an hour fastball? I hope he actaully gets more giddie up and soon.
  5. t-bay winning 7-1 we are winning the division despite the lousy play.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) That's some real s***ty scouting report, because it's awfully stupid to judge a guy off of eight IP. I'm not saying Bajenaru is the second coming of Gagne, but I think he can be a decent bullpen arm. Which is why he put up a 115 OPS+ (or so) last year? again you call me stupid, again you defend players who either have not made it or are fringe players. I really don't understand. If Gload is so great he would be here or starting for another team. He is a back up and will remain that way. So far again I am right and its been the truth. Baj won't make it, they called up jenks and Adkins despite the great BAJ numbers. He barely pitched in spring training therfore I can only conclude he doesn't have the game for the majors. I know you love the minor league players, but they are just not that good. Lets drop this for now because you and I do not see eye to eye and I am actaully not trying to convince you because I know where I stand and its been that way for some time. I really don't care if others are in agreement with me or not. So far the guys you like have not made it. When they do and if they do on a consistant basis I would love to share some board time with you. there will be call ups in two weeks i hope the players that come will be successfull because I want the sox to win, but september callups mean nothing long term.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Maybe the White Sox should just stick to drafting OF'ers, 'cause it seems like that's the only thing they do well. Carlos Lee and Maggs Ordonez (both minor league FA findings), Aaron Rowand, Jeremy Reed (whose having a decent -- not great -- rookie season), and hopefully Sweeney, Anderson, and Young. Then, after you've completed the draft of 50 OFers, trade the ones that succeed for pitching. actaully not a bad idea!
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) You've been proven right because he hasn't had much of an opportunity to prove himself. He's clearly better than his competition at AAA -- even you can admit that, no? My point with Bradford was that he pitched well in the minors, and they didn't really think all that much of him, either. actually I would like to know why he hasn't been given the chance, is it that the sox don't think he is good. i suspect that is the case. Why is he never mentioned in trade rumors? is it because the scouting reports tell every team he cannot transition his game to the big show. I think that could be it. Getting excited about prospects is a dead end game because most don't make it. Gload is better at triple A as well because he is older and spent alot of time there. He is forever a backup in the Majors because his game will not transition on a consistant level. If it did many teams would have been clamoring for the guy. Its just a fact some guys don't have the goods to be in the mjors, some are fringe players, some contributors and some stars.
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) Yeah -- you saw him for Spring Training, and you saw him for the five-six starts he made up here, and you're making a judgement off of him. I'll go with the larger sample size. Just like you did, BTW, with Bajenaru. I'm sure you're feelings on Chad Bradford was that he was a career minor leaguer too, huh? Baj will never make it, and so far I have been proven right. i cannot recall my opinion on bradford, but I did like the trade. Not sure your point. My point is, our minor league system is not great and I do not think highly of our prospects As for the prospects i do like and have said so from the beginning are: Anderson Sweeney Rogowski, will they make it. Maybe big maybe. But I could care less if they are on the sox. If we can trade them for proven ball players I do it all the time.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Felix Diaz got tossed around by this organization. He pitched on three days rest one day, and ten days rest the next. Then they'd stick him in the bullpen, and have him start again. And he's no where near the pitcher McCarthy has, nor has he had any of the success in the minor leagues that McCarthy has had. Diaz will probably be a swingman type for his career, if he can regain the control that he had last year. I think you are taking exception to my comment about Mcarthy being a 4or 5 or my comments about the system in general? Please let me know. If its Mcarthy, you are free to believe what you want, as am I. You indicated my stupidity about that, and thats fine with me. I do not need your blessing. I don't beleive he will be a stud pitcher but he is the best pitchign pospect this organization has. As for diaz, I don't think he will ever make it at least consistantly. He is done in my book, but your book is open. What about Borchard, what do you think about him?
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) "And in this cornah ... weighing in at 150 pound soaking wet ... from the south suburbs of Chicago ... Keith ... Killer Keith!" "And his opponent ... in the far corner ... wearing plaid shorts, striped shirt, and sandals with white socks ... The Narc of Negativity ... The Dean of Doom ... The High Priest of Hostile ... QUICKMAN !!" there is jim right in the middle with no opinion as usual.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) And has struggled for some time. did you see my email to you tonight, What did I say about pods being hurt?
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) BTW -- McCarthy's line tonight (in a rain shortened game): 7 IP, 7 Ks, 3 Hs, 0 R, 0 BBs. His ERA is down to 4.18. Quick saying that he's just gonna be a #4-#5 is one of the dumbest things I've read on this site in a while. why is that, has he proven anything different? lets wait and see until you call me dumb. He has proven nothing to me except possible trade bait.
  14. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) Why must you mention everyone that isn't work out? Not Young, Sweeney, Anderson, Gio, Haigwood, Owens, BMac, Liotta, Valido, Haeger, Rogo, and Tracey? I am sorry did any of the guys you mentioned make it? How many of them will make it? how many will play for this team? Last year did you think Diaz was going to be a major league pitcher for somebody and have a career in the majors? You see I didn't.
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) Don't quit your day job... thanks for the advice. i will file that where I think it belongs.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) bTW the official site is saying Podsednik to the DL is possible, and management or scouts are telling Guillen that Jerry Owens is ready, but Guillen doesn't think he is. So apparantly they're looking at Owens if Pods is out. We'll see how it goes. Guillen wants a leadoff guy. Jim they should have DL'd him last week when he hurt himself. He has not been the same. THis is why you don't worry about where griffey plays.
  17. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) I find it hard to believe that he hates you. That just made me laugh reading all the people down in the dumps about the team and you start talking about hot moms. TQ, how can you dislike Jim? jims my hero. I wish I knew as much about baseball, women, life, beer, food, cars,(oops not cars) as Jim. PS T-bay winning 5-0.
  18. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) Really? How closely do you follow them, just out curiosity? listen, we could go tit for tat all night, let me know when the great Wes whisler or the great tyler Lumsden makes it. Or how about those terrific catching prospects we got last year. s*** those guys are great, and the great Kris Honel. The last 4 years or so we really don't have much nor do I see stud in the making and I am including Jeremy Reed who everyone thought was the next great thing. No thanks, by the way Mcarthy will be a 4 or 5 not an ace. Come back to me in two years. We will see how everything turns out. The lotto has odds about the same as these guys making it big in the pros. Oh by the way Crede blows too. Remember he was going to be our all star third baseman. The next Bill Melton. I just love how we developed those great shortstops the past 10 years, and the great second baseman, since Durham. You would think by accident we could have found a catcher. But no. and this draft holy s***, this draft really knocked my socks off.We will contin ue this conversation in a couple of years.
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Well, except for Baj ... right? Baj blows and will never make it.
  20. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) It's in the upper half then baseball talent sucks cause our minor league system blows.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) The fact is, we should not be talking about Brian Anderson, unless it's an emergency. If there's an emergency in the next two weeks, it will be Borchard like it or not. They need a dangerous bat, not a 23 yr. old with 100+ K's in AAA. Not to discredit Anderson but they need somebody just a little more dangerous. our minor leaguers are not the answer right now. Not in our system.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) KW is definitely aggressive. The other thing is other organizations may not have a very high opinion of our minor leaguers. neither do I, our minors suck.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Right. Please tell us more stories from the White Sox war room, enquiring minds want to know. Stop yourself and have a donut or something. You would have been better off at the Door, watching the Tigers and pining for a PBR hat. Excuses don't cut it. Get the job done. KW needs to get the job done. You and I both know this team is short on talent. Its his job. Not saying he is not trying, I try hard at work as well, my VP could care less how hard I try, He hired me because he thought I would try hard. Get the job done.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) I'm not worried about 6 years from now, someone leaving for FA when he can possibly be called up and help this team win now! anderson is not the answer
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) I dislike Ozzie's managing, everyone knows that. However, am I the only one who is just dumbfounded by his managing the last month or so? nope I hate Ozzie too , been vocal, but he gets lucky so I am silenced.
