  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) It's good to know Levine knows before KW. actually he said he talked to both williams and hendry and both said they are done for today.Sorry to be so incomplete.
  2. levine just said no more moves will be made by either the cubs or the sox.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) I don't know if Ozzie dislikes Gload. But you are right, this doesn't necessarily mean we've seen the last of Willie. Gload is another guy who might interest a team as a throw in. If any other team's GM read this site the last few months, they can only come to the conclusion that Ross is bound for Cooperstown. lol, so true.
  4. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) I wouldn't be so quick to punch Willie's ticket... It's common knowledge that Ozzie dislikes Gload... If he can play 1B then Gload needs to watch his back... what common knowledge? I never heard that before. I am not disagreeing with you on sending gload down, but I don't think ozzie hates Gload.
  5. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) DISCLAIMER: Kenny Williams will be making a move between now and 3:00 CT. Consequently, there will be a variety of different emotions/backlashes in response to said move. Before melting down, or posting some violent tyraid that no one enjoys reading, please, do yourself--and likewise, all the good folks at Soxtalk--the favor of reading and re-reading this post. Do you remember that Olivo character? That, "can't miss" "five-tool" catcher that General Manager Kenny Williams foolishly traded away to Seattle for the single most coveted starting pitcher on the market in Freddy Garcia? You know Freddy Garcia don't ya...The current 10 game winner with our belov'ed White Sox. Well, after hitting a robust .154 with 5HR and 18RBI with the Mariners in over 50 games, Olivo was sent down to AAA. There, Olivo went on to hit .233 with 3HR and 26RBI. Suprisingly, or not so suprisingly, enough, the Mariners were quick to get rid of Olivo as he was traded to the Padres for C Miguel Ojeda and a minor league pitcher. Couple that with the rumors that no one on the White Sox liked pitching to the young backstop and you may have a deal in which Kenny Williams comes out smelling like a rose. Does that Kenny Willams have a good sense of what he's doing? ...I think he might. your reading too many of my posts.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) I propose the good folks as Soxtalk get together and raise funds to upgrade Willie Harris' ticket to Charlotte from coach to first class. So long Willie!!!!!!! thank god that piece of s*** is gone.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) This should get the traveling secretary on the phone to United Airlines getting Willie Harris a flight to Charlotte, unless this a precursor to another trade. you and Jim must have the same phone lines. Literally Jim said the same thing word for word. Jim got caught cheating in school as well.
  8. Blum is a nice fill for nothing. its a good deal. They gave up nothing.
  9. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) No quickman, this thread is against trading Brandon McCarthy. You can trade Brian, im sure VAfan doesnt mind. What are you talking about. VA doesn't want to trade Mcarthy. I am not following you.
  10. sox traded for blum, its a official.
  11. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Can't you make a post without trying to personally insult me? Stick to the merits. It is a crap shoot. But no one that is against my point has articulated a plan for how we are going to keep our starting pitching at the top of the game over the next 3 years. Yet you would all agree, I bet, that starting pitching is the reason we have the best record in baseball. VA- I don't care about the next three years. I will leave that to KW. Not my problem. As far as attacking you, I will apologize.
  12. this thread blows, I am done with it. Because of this htread I sincerely hope they trade mcarthy just so we can end this bulls***. Mcarthy could turn out to be a bust. Nobody knows, win the pennant and the world series, I really don't care what players we have when we do that, I do not care about next year.
  13. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) Why don't you answer the question of the thread? Would you trade McCarthy for Huff? Would you start Huff ahead of one of the 5 guys I mentioned? yes and yes, what are you 10 years old? How many threads does it take to get points across. In your many years following baseball how qualified are you to provide insight on how good Mcarthy would be? You don't know, its a crap shoot and thats the point. In addition when you build for a contender you build for injuries and matchups in the playoffs.
  14. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Leave Soxtalk. Please. Just Leave. Asking nicely. ...do us all the favor and play MVP baseball from now until 3:00 CT. It's a magical fantasy world in which you can trade for whomever you wish! It's a real Candyland...of the mind, the mind. this whole thread is cracking me up. All over Brian Mcarthy. Unreal. People love the triple A players more than there own team. Addison,Milkman, on behalf of Jim and I thanks for being real. Its actually refreshing.
  15. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) I wonder how the possible acquisition would affect Konerko. He would quickly realize this is his last year as a White Sox. who cares, for he is making 8 million, I think he can get over it.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Are we talking about Laurence Olivio, the actor? I wish we were talking about Tony Olivio.
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) Please don't give me a paragragh of stats. Its useless to me. The Olivio thing is done with the Sox.Time to get over it. oops confused you with Juggernaut. Sorry.
  18. Please don't give me a paragragh of stats. Its useless to me. The Olivio thing is done with the Sox.Time to get over it.
  19. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Maybe the deal will be Blum and Olivo.... Gives us a backup catcher with a better arm then Widger... Maybe they got him at KW's request... You still hooked on olivio? Widger is better. Period.
  20. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) actaully Jim Blum fits the back up role here, but interesting that nobody local picked this up. I have been listening all morning. Who are you? I was responding to JimH. I realize I am not the best poster, but please look before you type.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) Padres official site says the following, after the Miguel Olivo trade announcement: "After announcing the deal for the 27-year-old Olivo, who caught regularly for the White Sox in 2003, Padres general manager Kevin Towers indicated his club could have another deal done by the trade deadline on Sunday afternoon but it would not be a major swap." Certainly lends credence to this rumor. Also remember Blum played in Tampa and they liked him there, is it possible he gets moved twice today, maybe as a piece for Huff? actaully Jim Blum fits the back up role here, but interesting that nobody local picked this up. I have been listening all morning.
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) He was doing pretty good with the Sox until he was traded last year. I dont think our eyes decieved us, I think his overachieving performance decieved us. It decieved the Mariners too. actaully I think he was a 240 -250 hitter burried in a soft ballpark for homeruns and a very potent lineup which he saw better pitches. He is and always will be a backup, but you bring a great point, "we" know very little compared to the GM's and managers of baseball teams. Seattle really wanted Jeremy reed, whom I also think will project out to be a 10HR, 280 AVG and 65 rbi guy. (My lousy opinion only.) I would trade Garcia for that any day.
  23. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) It would kill me to give that good of a prospect to KC. I could see him coming back and kicking our asses in 3 years. even if we got AJ burnett? sounds a bit silly. Why would you worry about three years from now when you have a season like this today? It won't happen anyway but really if you could get AJ for one prospect, go get him.
  24. The best thing that ever happened to mcarthy was this years spring training. If not for the spring, and the ESPN game in the spring, people would not feel BMAC was a top pitching prospect in AAA. He is good but, really does anyone on this board know how good he really is? Is he a 1 or 2 or a 5? I think we banter through days of stats and posts, keep your eyes on the mark(world series) fill the holes, make your run. Mcarthy's arm could be shut down tommorrow just like Honel.
  25. I think people should take a look back to last years trade thread on this subject. I would say 85% of people around here hated the fact that olivio was traded. Many thought he would be a five tool player despite what there eyes were seeing. This proves again that young prospects have a hard time making it in the bigs. Olivio will forever be a back up catcher only because of his arm, otherwise he would be stuffing taco's at Taco Erenderia.
