QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) Nevermind the fact that he's hit the ball hard twice. you seem like an apologist for the team. and before you say I am negative, let me state I am truthful. Spot the tendencies, see the holes. I am too old to fall in love with players and be a fan like a kid. I want a winner. You can't wish for winners, they actually need to be made.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Well, I would have agreed had I known we would play s***ty D tonight. I didn't know we would play s***ty D, and yet I knew this team was going to get shelled. I don't know if our D is will be good tommorrow but we will get shelled. I have followed this team since 1968, everyday, every game, you begin to know there tendencies. two aces got shelled two days in a row. The tendency is not good. They need a shot in the arm.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Last time I checked, we were the team 31 games over .500 with the best record in the AL. Who are the indians? the indians are the team about to crawl up our ass. Nice pitching and a whole lot of hitting.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) wow, is everyone going to start posting their suicide notes soon? There are nights like this, the game is not over, we have come back in games like this before. earth to the rock

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Exactly. we need them to start playing better, not try to go find replacements for them. didn't I say buerhle would give up 6 or 7 before leaving. that was in the first inning. PS Mcarthy get shelled. 6 runs.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Maybe they don't want to give up Vizquel. Maybe they want to keep him around for next year because they know they will need to make a run as it will probabaly be Bonds last year there and everyone is gettting old. maybe , maybe maybe, look GM's get paid for this stuff. Not one team wanted to trade? I don't think so, we just didn't want to pay. Overpay if your serious about the world series, otherwise, don't get excited when the sox blow it. Look I hope andersen is a great player but he will not be griffey, I hope BMAC is good but he will not be a cy young winner. I hope The baj works out, but that is against all odds. I do know we are 8 games up and have not been in this position with this good of pitching in a long time. Most people look for pitching, we are looking for hitting. Lots of hitters out there.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) Remember when everyone got bent out of shape when Varitek said that our offense doesnt scare anyone, that our lineup has a bunch of guys that are easily pitched to. this board gets nuts when our people say that about our team. I don't understnad why people don't like the truth

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) Who on this thread honesty thinks the White Sox as they are constructed right now are serious WS contenders? not me, and I am a season ticket holder of 6 seats, love my team, but they are not going anywhere without help.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) We could only put a average player at one position. It would take an above average player at pretty much everywhere else except SS and Uribe is our SS for his D. Todd Walker would come off the bench. So would Lawton. and a bunch of others i've seen named. Ibanez is comparable to Everett at DH. Well lets go one step farther, they could have overpaid for visquel, had Uribe be the supersub then keep trying for griffey. My point is its KW's job to search and think and find a way to make the club better for the world series. The beginning of the year is to put a team in place to get to the playoffs, mid year its to put a team inplace to get to the world series. He gets an A for part one, and a D for part 2. So far he gets a C plus, which doesn't win you the world series. remember MONEY IS NO OBJECT. JR on record. every other year Money was an object and the one year when its not he doesn't do s***.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Quickman, I agree with that. But I fear that one bat (sans Griffey) won't help us. well if he got here tommorrow: a) the fans would go nuts B) We instantly become the talk of the playoff teams nationwide C) He instantly puts power in our lineup. D) We sell more tickets. E) He makes our lineup better. Good press, good power, superstar, left handed hitter, all makes for a whirlwind of confidence this team would get a huge shot in the arm. that is why KW is tryign so hard to get him. He is a difference maker.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) True. But it does seem like every rumour that kept cropping up was a pretty dang good prospect (Anderson, BMac, etc.). We don't want to lose these guys - they have too much potential. Those guys aren't overvalued. I remember when everyone b****ed about Reed and Olivo. Anyone b****ing now? I think our organization knows when to let go of players (except Borchard, but no one wants him). i didn't like reed or olivio, and I am not big on anderson. BMAC is not ready, he needs another year in the minors.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) Oh sorry. Didn't realize I was talking to a GM, who knows what both teams offered. i don't think thats what he meant. Everyone gets so personal around here. its silly. The facts are simple, our hitting isn't good, especially from 3b and SS. Our pitching is good but we do have holes in that as well. We need to solidify the lineup a bit, get stronger there to make it T HROUGH the playoffs. We are a nice team, I would like to be a great team. Griffey changes the dynamics of the lineup. other teams will fear him, pitch around him and will make other players better just by his presence, alot like thomas used to do. he is a superstar. other players would fill the gaps. Randa would be nice now that crede is not around, hell even if crede was around!
-
Well I do think you everything to win this year. Lookat the teams who win these things, they are stacked with pitching and hitting. Not one or the other. we are in serious trouble, KW has one more day to help this team, if he doesn't forget about the world series. Just my opinion.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) *sigh* So we were supposed to give up EVERYTHING we have... based on Tampa holding us hostage, or the Reds telling us no? No one moved, because the market wasn't conducive to making a move. actaully no, but the GM needs to find ways, other ways to improve. Again overpay, do what you need. What if* we do lose the division, the fans will take years to forgive this. Years! it will make the white flag look silly. THe GM's job is to get us in the best position. They have failed to fill the gaps to win a championship. I wonder if we were just 2 games up at the deadline if that would have jump started his ass. I bet it would have.

whats interesting is the Tigers got 5 in the first tonight and the Tribe didn't even blink. Came back and got 6 in the first, both of those teams can hit better than us. We are good against bad teams fortunatly there are alot of those. We will need to matchup against the Angels, Yanks, redsox, oakland, even cleveland. All can outhit us any night.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Because KW doesn't want to mess with the team's "chemistry" and actually give his team a chance at a world title hell why piss off an average team with a big heart. We can win on Ozzies spirit alone.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) I don't know that you are wrong persay, but considering that Burly didn't give up a run in his last start against them, that was just kind of surprising to hear. Well he will give up 6 tonight. Maybe 7 before he departs.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Buehlre has pitched well against Texas in his career. No excuse for these weak changeups Buehlre is floating up there. Anytime he wants to pitch like an ace is fine by me. He should shut them down from this point on. I don't care how formidable their lineup is--good pitching beats good hitting. Recently Buehrle has been getting hit. Although I have no stats, I think he has allowed alot of hits in the last 5 starts. Now, if your doing that against crappy lineups its ok, but against big hitting lineups like texas, redsox, yanks, and so on, it catches up to you.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) Any reason for that thought? Just cause BUerhle gave up 2 in the first? Well thats a good start, but I will go further and say that texas hits us well especailly at there home ballpark. They hit the tar out of the ball. We don't. In addition we have a habit of making new pitchers who we don't see alot into cy young winners. You think I am wrong?
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) We don't. Pods is back. His bunt attempts and infield hits are worth at least 2 runs a game. exactly and as Ozzie says we can win with the team we have! Wouldn't want to piss off all those players with all those Hall of Fame votes and MVP votes and Cy young votes, and ROlaids votes, and well you get the point.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) You mean today's game will get out of hand? yes todays game will get out of hand, and Mcarthy will get shelled. sorry for the confusion.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) it was a joke
-
but we don't need anymore offensive players. Look we don't match up well with these guys. mcarthy will get his ass handed to him tommorrow. its unfortunate. This game will get out of hand in a hurry. Look on the brightside, we will get to see the great baj!

Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox
quickman replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Yes, that part I get, but is he saying he does or doesn't think Griffey will do that? Seems to me if Levine is saying he thinks the deal will get done b-4 Wed., he feels Griffey will go to Reds mgmt. and ask for the trade. Did he speculate at all on that? jim I did hear what he had to say, first he did not say we will get him. He said the Sox are only interested in a high profile player like Griffey. he said that Griffey needs to come out and say he wants to move to the american league and DH half the time to extend his career and the whitesox right now are the team best to do that. If he doesn't he won't be moved. Also remember he has right of refusal, therefore, if he doesn't say this it doesn't matter what the reds want. Net net, Bruce never talked about the sox getting griffey or if the deal is on or off or if players were agreed too. He did say the sox sweetened the money taken on. A whole lot of nothing.
