QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) Interesting. Here's the link for those who want to read the article: http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/baseball/13421777.htm "Knowing they have extra outfielders"? It sounds like the Rangers would want to offer us Wilkerson for Garland. Too bad we don't need or want an outfielder, especially not a Boras client on a 1-year contract. I will take mench, and move pods over. Done

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) If Texas isn't willing to include one of their top prospects--pitching or not, they can remain in their perpetual pitching rut. f*** them. I'm not giving up Garland unless a top tier prospect is returned. Blalock's addition in the trade doesn't bother me, since Uribe could always play 3B if no options were found to replace Crede. It's the value of Garland, and what teams such as Texas are offering, which concerns me. No way in hell should Jon Garland only give us a lower level prospect, one year rental or not. I'll repeat this--if Garcia cost us Reed(our top prospect)/Morse/Olivo, MIDSEASON, during a contract year, it's not too unreasonable to ask for one of Texas.' I can't believe Texas would trade for Garland and only use him for one year, considering the crap they have. Or ask yourself this-- If Williams were trading Blalock/prospect for Garland/Crede, who here wouldn't bet the prospect in question would be one of our best? He'd give up the top prospect and we'd tell ourselves, "have to give up something to get something." "Prospects are just that--prospects." "We HAD to overpay so other teams couldn't get him." Personally I don't think reed is that good or olivio. Only people on this board or baseball america thinks they were good. olivio is really a back up catcher and reed will be a 10hr, 280 hitter. Very light hitter, not a perenial 300 hitter. You get what you get. Garcia helped us to the world series, it was worth it. He was considered a stud despite what anyone might think. Garland has NOT proved to be a stud. He had one good year, otherwise the guy was up and down. Eitherway the guy won't be here and you will need to live with what we get.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Never though we would get either... let's get that straight. I think kw will be looking for major league ready talent more so. yep, should be a fun week. Lots more rumors to come.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) Thomas diamond is suppose to be as untouchable as it gets... at least for the rangers. They passed up drew and weaver because they no longer want to deal with boras either. Danks is also not represented by boras from what i remember. I really don't think it will be either of these guys. Lets stop dreaming. It will be a lower level guy. Look I realize everyone here thinks garland is great but his value is lower because he has one year left. it will play out in a week or two. I still think another team will enter in the picture.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) We can lose with Baltimore. If Orioles are demanding Ramirez AND additional prospects it's going to take more than Garland/Uribe to pry Tejada from the East Coast. For once, I'd like for this organization to be in a position to have another team overpay for our players. We don't even need to trade Garland immediately. Wait until Milwood and the remaining Boras client signs with their teams. Then we'll see how desperate Baltimore, Texas, and other clubs are for pitching when divisional teams are improving while they're staying pat. SOMEONE has to overpay. That's my goal with Garland. Even if we receive outfield talent, which obviously isn't necessary, I want Williams to extract the most in return from him. Be greedy instead of fair, for once. At worst, we have a completed rotation with a more than suitable replacement (McCarthy) available. Well like I said the CUBS will overpay. Doesn't mean we will. We won't get into a pissing match with another team. We will offer what we want and if its not good enough we will move on. And if it means we hold on to garland for a few months we will. I am not worried. buy the way I think all our prospects stink and should be used for trades! Just my opinion.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) Cubs fan Sounds like someone from this board. A complete moron. We wait 40 years to spend money and some idiot gets on and says that.
-
If you can get tejada for garland and uribe, that is the trade to do. Better player all around and instant star on the team. thats the trade, though I think Levine is an idiot. I also think the CUBS will step up and put together a good package, most likely overpay to have this guy.
-
Interesting about levine. I don't think he knows what he is talking about, but on the chance he does, I think its interesting what KW is doing. basically he is using Garland as leverage agaisnt both these teams. For tejeda it will be garland that gets traded not Mcarthy. he wants garland out, and the orioles would risk losing Garland after one year where TExas would probably over pay to keep him. KW is very smart and I think either way we can't lose!

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) I believe Wilkerson will be a free agent after 2006 and is also a Boras client. Not gonna happen. There you go
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) Browsing Google for information relaing to those two, both are currently in the Rangers AA affiliate. Unless we're considering moving either to bullpen use, they'd be useless this season. I can imagine either would start the season at AAA. Which is fine, but unfortunately we'd still have two open bullpen positions. Is there even a AAA pitcher on the Rangers that is worthy of being included alongside Blalock in any deal for Garland/Crede? I could imagine if there were a AAA pitcher succeeding Texas would hold onto them. THere will be people non tendered later next week. We will get a bullpen guy.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Isn't there talk about Wilkerson? I'm all for giving Anderson his shot, but Wilkerson would be a good #2 hitter. Yes in the original thread, but as this plays out, I actually think KW would rather have the prospect than Wilkerson. Firstly it gives one of our prospects a chance to play center field. In addition we will need a back up arm in case of injury this year. I like Wilkerson alot, I have no idea what he is owed but if they get blaylock I think they will be able to hide andersen in the lineup. Just some thoughts.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) It would be nice if the Rangers also threw in a pitching prospect but I like the deal. We are going to lose Garland after 2006 anyways and Crede soon after. We would have Blalock on a cheap 3-year deal. Podsednik (lefty) Iguchi (righty) Thome (lefty) Konerko (righty) Blalock (lefty) Dye (righty) Pierzynski (lefty) Uribe (righty) Anderson (righty) That lineup kicks ass. Actually they will throw in a pitching prospect. KW will want to get an arm for triple A. In addition another reason this makes sense is that Texas and Boras get along well. I would think texas would be able to sign Crede long term.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) This deal doesnt need to tell us that, we can look at the way he has been playing. The guy has a cannon but has s*** for footwork, and is not progressing as a 3B as we thought he would. I still think he will end up playing some 1B before its said or done. OK 6 of one half dozen of another. if they move him (1B), it will stay take longer to develop. By the way we are loaded at first base as well. Bye bye to fields...later though.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) I don't care much for prospects, but if that's the only way to even out the deal. Neither do I, but this board is completely enamored with prospects despite the fact that the majority never make it.
-
Furthermore this does tell you that Josh Fields is coming along slower than expected and may take just as long as Joe did to reach the majors. If Blalock does come don't expect fields to hit the majors until he is compeltely out of options or I suspect he will be traded sometime later in the year for a quick pick up on someone.
-
QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) I can't believe Boras holds the cards in this; if anyone does, its Joe. Boras works for Crede, not the other way around. Anyway, I don't want to lose Crede, even for this payoff. Crede can save a WS game with the glove or win a it with the bat. The WS is the level the Sox are at now. What matters is how they can deliver while on that stage. Joe can do it, how do we know Blalock or Wilkerson can? To put it bluntly: Blalock may be able to get a team to the World Series; but we know Crede can win it. SFF Stop it, Joe Crede is not brooks Robinson for the long haul. I simply cannot beleive everyone is so nieve when it comes to Boras people. The SOX WILL NOT DEAL WITH THEM. get over it fast.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) Well that's certainly an issue. But it makes no sense in trading Crede this year unless something great comes along. This deal isn't. It certainly does make sense, because your getting a very good 3b in return who is signed long term. Why keep a guy for another year when you have a replacement sitting right there. I am certain there is more to the trade such as prospects from texas, which by the way would make this site praise with joy. All you people just love prospects. Focus on why they would trade him. (its boras) nothing else. Not about splits or anything.
-
Funny about all these stats, whether its this year or next year Crede will be gone unless he gets another agent. Stats mean nothing, Boras is the issue right now. I am sorry many don't get it. When you get older men have this thing about keeping there word and lying. Boras lied to JR or at least that is what JR thinks. Thats all that matters. Crede will be gone within two years if not sooner.
-
Last year on the Radio in an interview JR was asked why he won't go after Boras clients, he said" I don't work with liars" I think that should sum up the whole Crede issue. BYE BYE, maybe not this year, but next year for sure.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Well they might very well do as you suggest. I think Blalock will be the better ballplayer in 2006 and moving forward and I think it would be a good idea to acquire him, but it's all subjective. There are so many factors we don't know. The biggest factor, (the very biggest) is JR won't deal with Boras. He simply won't. therefore Crede would need to switch agents or he will be dealt. Save this email, it may take another year, the sox will not deal with Boras. If you love Crede send him an email and tell him to get another agent.
-
hasn't this been talked about in another thread. Why would you start a thread with this rubbish.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) Hey, I see quickman is on line. I have a question, is 2006 the year of the Baj? They have a couple openings in the bullpen. hate BAJ, but he may get a mob up role.It would make everyone here happy. s*** throw bullard in there as well. the board would go nuts. I think KW will have a plan. I will wait before I jump off a building.
-
People on this board are worried about prospects and our payroll going up, turning us into the yankees! Whitesox fans are oppressed. We win the world series and are setting up for a repeat, and people are worried about some guy in double A who may be good in 2008. We obviously have been granted more money to spend. We should celebrate, but no we must worry, we must think small. We start thinking big like tejeda and god forbid we give up a prospect. This reminds me of my youth when I fell in love with players and looked at there pictures or baseball cards. Pathetic

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) Jon Garland isn't Tom Seaver. Aaron Rowand isn't Stan Musial. Right? I just want to make sure I haven't missed something. Whoa, is that you? Drugs wear off from this mornings tirade?
