  1. QUOTE(Balance @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) So, all I've been told is that my tickets for the Double Play Plan will be mailed in March. Does anybody know exactly when (or about when) the Sox will put them in the mail? They can put 'em in the mail..... YES! call your rep
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) That's interesting. I would probably say yes now, but in a few years, regret my decision when Indians and Twins were trampling over our corpses. All I know is Sox fans have endured countless year of .500 teams, and I certaintly wasn't content with mediocrity. The stigma of a World Series Championship only lasts for so long. You'd think after winning several titles in the late 90's, 2000, Yankee fans would be content. We all know that wasn't true. Ask hardcore Bulls fans if two seperate three peats make recent struggles bearable. the goal is to win the world series, we did that, thats the goal. I am satisfied.
  3. flash you make good conversation. We are at opposite ends. i could care less about our farm with the exception that others think its good so I can trade these scrap heaps away for proven players. You take a more holistic view of our talent. I am old, and want results now. i could care less about next year. i could be dead. Your points though are well thought out and good conversation
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) For Garcia. It worked out for us, I can't disagree with that. I'm saying at the moment the trade was approved, I don't know many who looked at the package provided for Garcia and were happy. Did Williams know Morse would be average, Reed an Aaron Rowand clone, and Olivo a free-swinging pile of crap? Did he predict a huge shift in the offseason market for pitchers? Trades often are best assessed over a long period, as we've witnessed with the Garcia trade. Williams is a smart general manager, but he's not a genius. Only Beane holds that title. I'm merely suggesting for a trade to occur which gives our club a pitcher of Garcia's caliber, we'll again have to overpay based on our analysis of players at that particular moment. i knew it. I always stated on this site, that reed would be a 280 10 hr hitter. I never liked Olivio ever. Morse was a throw in. so yes, but then again I barely like anyone in our system. Personally I think Broadway was a wasted pick as well. and last years draft sucked.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) What's comical to me is the alledged race for the second lefty reliever role. How do you base anything on 4 or 5 innings of spring training success? I don't think they have anybody vying for this role who would be remotely better in 2006 than Kevin Walker was in 2005. Kw screwed up earlier this year and now he is 2 men short. He needs to come through fast.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) Well, the one nice thing about prospects, and the one reason to consider getting attached to them...is that if you find one of them that works, suddenly you have a starting position filled for $400k a year for 3-4 years, and for just a couple million a year in the few years after that...which lets you do insane things like giving Mark Buehrle the contract he so sorely deserves, etc. this is true, If you find one out of twenty then thats great, otherwise they are trading pawns. On a world series team it may be worse because your not going to bring up prospects to often to fill gaps on a world series team. I realize there are exceptions but that is rare. If your KC or cinci then I understand the need for prospects is greater.
  7. Well this conversation was on the game thread yesterday. I think the sox are in trouble. They do not have the arms internally and they know it despite whats in the press. There will be a trade, and quite frankly I am surpised that KW thought hermy could come back without an injury.
  8. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) RIght here, after just reading articles that said we are going to look heavily at in-house options for awhile, juat like I said we would. They are going to wait it out and see, try to plug in a guy that we have in camp, and see where it goes. And if we don't, they'll get a reliever that has had an ERA in the high 4's or 5s the last few years, just like I said. THx for bringing me up after they are doing what I said. Well I disagree, They will be looking today for a reliever. They are on the phones now.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) Good arguments BTW. I see it like this: The only real guarantee that you are getting a good player, is by trading prospects for them. Prospects pan out barely ever, and they are still overvalued. yes finally you have come over to my side
  10. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:01 AM) We don't have a ton of talent in the farm system but we have enough to net a decent reliever without having to trade Contreras. Remember yesterdays thread?
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) More than likely a trade. Although I think they're gonna look for in-house replacements for the time being. If Kenny can pull off a trade before the season starts that nets us a solid reliever, I'll officially give him the title of best f***in gm on the planet. there will be trade, going back to yesterdays conversation, they are hurting in the pen.
  12. marte in trouble. as usual. Announcers questioning why the lefthander.
  13. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) We've got 5 guys that can consistently get you into the 7th or 8th inning. From that point on, Bmac, Politte, Cotts and Jenks take over. So I think will be alright atleast to start the season. Can you get away with that for a whole season? Not a chance. If Kenny's able to swing a deal in the next week or so, great. I just wouldn't expect it. ok its funny but I think we agree. I do think if hermy is injured then kenny will go to work fast. just my opinion.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) By the way, Vasquez is looking very solid against that awesome Dominican line up. No s***, he looks in mid season form. His breaking ball is unreal.
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) JimH and quickman, I really wish you guys would come around more often. I enjoy your take on things, as it's usually right on the money. We are all from the same baseball era. You me and Jim.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) No need to be a dick. I'm just being realistic. Bullpen help is not easy to find. And I seriously doubt will be able to make a move in the next 3 weeks. I just don't think the season is lost if we're not able to make a move before that time is up. If you do, that's on you. Well I never said the season is a loss, but take the conversation the way you want to. I think we need a pitcher or two by april, I also think our minor league pitching prospects are horrible and will not help. I do think a good solid start is important to win this division. I think our starting pitching is the best in the game and will keep us in games, but the bullpen shut things down last year and that is a question mark NOW. Its really the only question mark. I think its better to address these things early rather than later. I think KW missed this opportunity earlier this year and is now finding out the cost.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Agree. They will land somebody who doesn't fit elsewhere, it will be someone they think can contribute but it may not be the perfect guy. That guy may not be available, he may not have been available in November and he might not be available at the trade deadline. Here's something the White Sox brass learned the hard way up until 2005, you set your team up as best you can on April 1 vs. saying "well we'll see how we do and try to fix our holes later". The games mean a lot in April and May, this division will be tighter than people think, I highly doubt the White Sox rack up another 15 game lead. I have enough trust in Williams and Hahn that they'll land somebody sooner than later. Remember there are a whole bunch of spots open on the 40 man for a reason. Most of these other teams will need to shed a guy or two or three and the Sox are in a perfect position to pick up a valued contributer, possibly at very little cost. Well the hermanson thing has thrown everything off. if he is right we have no problems, but he is not alright. it ripples from there. jenks didn;t have time to think last year, and teams didn't have time to adjust. they will this year.
  18. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Our starters didn't go deep into games in April/May of last year? They most certainly did. And, unlike Koch, Hermanson is not being counted on to close games. We need another arm in the pen. That much we agree on. But it won't be a tragedy if we're not able to trade for one before the season starts. Well I disagree, especially with the amount of innings these guys pitched last year. For the most part starting pitchers do not go deep especially in april and the early part of may, but hey if YOU believe we are ok, then s*** I am convinced. You have completely changed my mind. I say we run with what we have. We can fill in the gaps with our minor leaguers. Jenks will be just fine, closing all year, Hermanson won't be hurt, Politte will have the same year as last year, and cotts will have no problems pitching everyday, not to mention Mcarthy pitching in the pen for the first time. No problem. You are right.
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) My perspective has changed, the Sox brass is absolutely loving what they're seeing from Contreras, I think they'll play that hand out for '06. Nor have I ruled out the Sox signing him to a deal. Sometimes when it's really quiet deals (contracts) get done. There is no denying the need for bullpen help though. Even in the unlikely event Hermanson gets and stays healthy, they need better depth. When your first call up is Sean Tracy I am worried. I'm sure he is a nice guy and all but he has trouble throwing strikes. Ozzie hates guys who can't throw strikes, it is one big reason why Javier Vazquez is now on this team. I have no doubts they will land someone but it may take time. I do believer they'll fill the gap with some guy who doesn't fit from some other org. and see how it goes for April and May. Otherwise as it stands now there are really no other holes to fill on the team, which is a better situation than in years past. true, but I will say games in arpil and May are won by the bullpen because starters do not go as deep into the game. We basically won the division with a quick start last year, the bullpen with teh exception of that damn cleveland game, came through big time. With this group I do not see it happening. Remmber when Koch was throwing 88. Well thats hermanson right now. Its going to get smacked. In april we have games against our own division. its goign to be a good test early. I say we need a bullpen arm sooner rather than later.
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) Well, since as you say, our minor league system sucks. What do we have to give that they would want? Sweeney
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) You said our minor league system sucks. I took that as the ENTIRE system. This is not new to me, I think our draft last year was bad, I think outside of Mcarthy we have no pitchers ready for the MLB. i like sweeney, but thats about it right now. If these guys bring us MLB talent, than I think thats great. otherwise I don't think there is much down there. But maybe your right. I do not get excited about minor league ballplayers, they are a dime a dozen and if we play them it just means we are injured or out of contention.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) He just likes proven talent. I do believe he has said he likes Ryan Sweeney though. this is very true, and yes I do like sweeney, better than anderson. back to the relievers, I would love to get Qualls from the astros. Jim, thiink we can get some players from the rockies and trade them to houston?!!!!
  23. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Does anything not suck to you? oF COURSE, that would be good players, which we have very few in our minor leagues. Which one of these players that I mentioned in this thread does not suck?
