  1. From what I've seen of Torres, he seems like he could be a real solid bullpen guy and spot starter... kinda similar to Carrasco. Nothing special, but has decent stuff and can get the job done.
  2. Can't be any worse than Greg Walker or Gary Ward.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) I said most sorry, so out of Elin, Tiger, and the kids, the only ones with a shred of sympathy from me are the kids. ok, that makes sense.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) While she has every right to get that $750M, it makes me think less of her. Yes, the cheating was horrible for Tiger to do, but how much better a person is she to have chased him with a club and try to get as much as possible? I feel most sorry for the kids in this instance. Lots of kids grow up with f***ed up families... but not a lot of kids grow up with all the money they will have. I don't feel sorry one bit.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) I don't think we'll ever sign a $100 million player, let alone $250. Looks like we won't ever have a premium, impact bat then, cause thats the going rate these days.
  6. Yes, the future is bright. But it is silly to pencil Trout in as a future superstar already. Top prospect, and loaded with potential? Definitely... but things could be looking a whole lot different come next year, thats how baseball is.
  7. I'd only trade Beckham for an impact bat like Fielder or Gonzalez (back when the Padres wanted to get rid of him), and we were committed to signing said player to a 250 million dollar contract.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) I actually gotta disagree with this...there were times when he'd completely overhauled it coming into ST, better balance, more bent knees, etc., but he'd get sent down or benched or injured and by the time he'd be back, all the old habits would be there. Beckham flashes a good swing every few at bats but just hasn't had any consistency with it this year. Anderson was a ST hero... other than that, he sucked. Him, and Josh Fields, are easily two of the dumbest hitters that have ever put on a White Sox uniform. Good athletes who sucked at baseball. Unfortunately, thus far into the season, Beckham could be falling into the same category... however, his natural talent far exceeds both Anderson and Fields, and it has only been half a season of suckage. He does still have time to turn it around. Its up to him though and how he handles what has likely been the most adversity he has ever had on a baseball field. If he continues to be a dummy at bat, well, we got one of the biggest busts in our history. However, if he realizes his approach and swing need altercation, puts in the work, and gets smarter, he's got a chance.
  9. jesus christ, superstardom already? Yeah, Trout has been tearing s*** up, but not a single one of us have seen him play at all, and his season is only half over. His stats are incredible, in fact, too good to sustain. I too would have preferred Trout and think he has the potential to become a really good player, but I'm not giving him credit for anything more than having an insanely good first half.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:00 AM) beckham's swing, IMO, is far better than Anderson's ever was, IMO that would be way too much for a 3 month rental and with the other bat's likely to get traded I highly doubt the Nat's get anywhere near that level of player/prospect for Dunn, but doesn't hurt to ask. Beckham hasn't had a good swing in about 10 months now... Anderson never had a good swing.
  11. Beckham has been a bonehead at the plate. He's all discombobulated and its very sad to watch as we don't have a single coach in this organization who can get through to him and help him correct his swing and approach. Either that, or Beckham is just that dumb and stubborn. And if thats the case, he'll never amount to anything.
  12. for the white sox top 25, are you just gonna throw all the s*** to the wall and see who sticks where? Our farm system took a step up last year, but has taken a huge step back this year.
  13. How the hell do you have 94 strikeouts in 280 AB's at AAA? Looks like Jordan doesn't want to play in the majors with his big bro because that is pitiful.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) I think you are being pretty naive. In addition, the minimum salary isn't 60K. It is anywhere from 2 to 3K a month (for the period you are playing) to what the minor league free agents get or guys who have already played at the major league level get. And it is those guys that are minor league free agents (typically those guys are AAAA type players who might make a decent living). Still, it takes a pretty rare player to earn 60K a year in AAA. And it ain't easy to go find some other random job to make a decent living. These guys have it pretty rough. Believe me, I love baseball enough to rough it out.
  15. Mitchell wasn't really a safe pick, he was a high risk pick and the org. was and still is hoping he could become our Carl Crawford. I for one would have preferred Trout, but Mitchell was beasting it up in ST before his injury.
  16. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) http://www.sbnation.com/2010/6/28/1542477/...ow-tigers-twins That's terrifying. You can't really see anything in those gifs besides him obviously in tons of pain.
  17. 150 pitches was the norm back in the day. Pitchers were conditioned to throw that many pitches, on shorter rest. Pitchers are now conditioned to throw less, and I am one of the believers that this actually weakens the arm.
  18. Pitch count is a big deal now, because pitchers are conditioned to it as soon as they get into pro-ball. But the old school thought is that the pitch count is hurting the pitchers and leading to more injuries than preventing. The idea is that pitchers aren't throwing as much which means they aren't strengthening their arms as much as they could. 150 pitches is a lot today, but it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. Bob Feller probably averaged 150 pitches per game, and he never had a single arm injury and one of the greatest fastballs the game has ever seen.
  19. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) They don't get paid that much! You would barely survive if that was your only income. I realize that, and I have no problem making at least around $50,000-$60,000 (I believe the minimum in AAA is $60,000) for playing baseball half of my year, and spend the other half doing real work.
  20. Chris Davis wouldn't be the answer for anything unless we desperately want a .200 hitter who strikes out about once every 3 AB's, and the only positive he would bring is the fact you have a decent chance of getting a BP home run ball from him if you sit in the RF bleachers.
  21. I see no point in arguing, everyone has different tastes... but if someone says that they wouldn't smash all the women ranked if given the chance, than said person is a liar or isn't into women.
  22. yawn... I would play 25 years in the minor leagues if I got paid to play baseball.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) At this point, we've suddenly made the season exciting and at least partially vindicated KW's plan by putting us realistically in the race. How does that not take his job out of jeopardy? So a great month vs. the NL should vindicate the whole season, even if the team reverts back to s***ty form? I'm excited to, but as fast as we seemingly turned this season around, it can all go away just as fast. This team is still clearly flawed on offense, and if we fall out of the race and revert to the suck we saw in the first 1/3 of the season, that would be letting a golden opportunity go, because this team does have the pitching staff to compete now, but needs more help on offense. I really don't see how a 2 week hot streak should vindicate everything. We need to build off of it and try and solidify our spot in the race, not stay put and see which team shows up for the next 2 weeks.
