Sox vs Atlanta 6-23 game thread 7:05 first pitch, CSN
BearSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2010 Season in Review
After seeing him play baseball for the first 3 innings today, I'm officially in the send Beckham down club. Of course now that I said that, he will wind up going 3-3 in his next AB's with 2 Homers and 6 RBI or something like that. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Adding DeJesus is not going to come cheaply. How much better is he really going to be than Pierre? I think we can expect that Pierre will be pretty decent....considering how poorly he started. And that's where you have that calculus....if Dunn/LaRoche/Scott, etc., aren't going to put us over the top, then DeJesus certainly isn't going to do the trick either. And they're going to ask for Flowers/Hudson or something like that, certainly not justifiable in a season where we've been pretty bad except for this recent 10-1 stretch against inferior competition. Fielder would be a typical KW move, but budgetarily the numbers just don't make any sense going forward. I think this is one of those seasons you have to stick with what you have and hope that Quentin/Beckham can get going and Viciedo can hold his own, with Vizquel spelling him defensively. He's on pace for 22 RBI and 14 doubles, not to mention he's batting a boastful .250 with an OPS below .600 and well below average defense... he better pull off some serious magic if he wants his season to be anywhere remotely near decent. DeJesus is leaps and bounds better.

I really don't see the point in either Dunn or LaRoche. They are both decent stop gaps, but neither puts our offense over the hump. If we can get 1 of them without giving up any of our top guys, fine, sign me up. But the only way such a move makes sense is if we make other moves as well, such as upgrading one of the corner OF spots, and 3B and 2B. From what I've seen, I like Viciedo's swing and the fact he showed some good oppo pop (hit the ball hard 3 times, all to the right of 2B). However, until he learns some plate discipline, and I doubt he's gonna learn it this instant, he won't be what the doctor ordered for 3B. And we already established that Teahen isn't the answer either. Give Beckham 2 more weeks, and go from there. If he can hit the ball half as well as he did last year, he can stick at 2B. And while Quentin is only hitting .210~, he is at least producing runs, so I think we can stick it out with him in the OF for a while longer. If he can get up to .250, with his eye and power, we'd be in good shape. I know the royals are asking a lot for him right now, but I would not be opposed to try and swing a deal for DeJesus. Massive upgrade over Pierre (keep Pierre on the bench as a situational player, a role he thrived in when he was in LA). Maybe we could also try and get Alex Gordon in the deal as well. Gordon would be a huge question mark at 3B, but the potential would be worth the risk. If our pitching staff keeps improving as a whole, I'd be excited if we could some how pull of a mid-season over-haul that turned our lineup into: 1. DeJesus, LF 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Rios, CF 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dunn/LaRoche, DH 6. Quentin, RF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Gordon, 3B 9. Beckham, 2B Unlikely scenario, but its fun to play arm chair GM
-
Lance Berkman wouldn't help that much either, and even if he did get hot and find his old self, he'd still be a 1/2 stop gap. We need someone who is young and an impact bat. Whatever it would take to get and pay Fielder, we should do it.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Amen. The only decent country is old country, Cash, Nelson, Williams Sr.... etc. 'New'counrty is very much like hip hop... in it's pointless bragging. Yep, and you are spot on. It annoys me when people think they know country when they don't know s*** accept for the garbage that plays on 99.5. Its just so annoying. The country music played by the likes of Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, etc., etc., etc... it just blows new country out of the water.

Is Wittles a legit prospect or just a decent player putting together a great season and streak? Also, from the little I've seen, he won't be able to stick at SS. Doesn't seem to have the range.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) No offense ..but, to most men ..ANY female is "do-able" ...so long as she isn't pushing maximum density ..AKA, if she isn't 300lbs ...even then, some men just don't care!! hahaha There are some men who would do anything, but they are definitely not in the majority... And it might not seem like it, but there is a very fine line between "do-able" and just plain old "GOD NO!" However, that line is also expanded depending on how horny said person is. It's a complicated system, but it works. It's a lot better than the female system based on this thing called "personality."

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) I'd hit it. I've seen much worse manly looking women with bodies. She's a definite do-able. Exactly. Not hot, but definitely do-able.

Perhaps you shouldn't scare the s*** out of me...

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) Mountain West more likely. Need a football conference. Mountain West doesn't want Iowa St. because they have no baseball program. Boise St. doesn't have a baseball program either, but they are in a different situation as they might be able to make the MWC an auto-qualifier. -
I'm actually a little bit scared now.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) I'm not saying Football isn't a man sport, because God knows i love a good game of Football .. I love the sound of the clacking of helmet on helmet contact and watching a guy do flips and land on his noggin when he gets hit ..the best is when they get taken down in mid flight ..I LOVE watching a guy get smacked out of the air!! AHHHH ..I need to watch Football now!! HAHA ...Baseball is just more my thing, it's just so American and timeless ya know?! Who doesn't enjoy, hotdogs, nachos, peanuts and beer?!?! (I, myself, would prefer Jagermeister, but that's not a Baseball thing!!) wow, your intensity is off the charts, lol. I agree with you, but i now feel like I am wrong.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) YES ..She is taken!! Recently engaged actually! YAY ME!! ..I was single for a long time before this relationship though ..dated around, but couldn't be with a guy who would insist NASCAR is better than Baseball ..one who insisted men in firefighter uniforms were more attractive than ones in Baseball uniforms ..one that said Football was more of a man sport because it's full contact ...THEN I WENT OFF ..How is baseball not a contact sport? Watch a guy try to steal home and see if he doesn't get smashed on by that catcher ..Baseball requires a little bit of brain power also, which I LOVE!! I believe it takes a real man to stand at the pitchers mound and let a 5oz ball fly at them at speeds of up to 105mph. (depending on the speed of the ball thrown and the strength and accuracy of the batter), furthermore it takes a real man to sit behind a batter and catch balls off the bat at similar speeds from a shorter distance. ..SORRY ..I get carried away ..BREATHE BREN!! lmao They do call the catchers equipment the tools of ignorance. But then again, I play football so I have no room to talk, lol.

Nats likely to take Harper with No. 1 pick

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 01:16 AM) If that is the case then it would be very stupid not to pay for him. I think thats his upside, and considering even the best prospects only have a 10-20% chance of reaching their potential, I don't think its worth the money, especially when you take into account his clear and present ego issues. If I thought his upside was that of Mauer, Morneau, or Votto, yeah, I would pay him. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) The Pac 10 could give two s***s about anyone outside of Texas. They don't add anyone aside from maybe Colorado unless they get Texas. Pac 10 wants their own network and a championship game. Of course they'd want Texas, but Texas would be crazy to leave for the Pac-10 when they already make more money in the Big 12 and practically own the conference with Oklahoma. After looking at it though, Texas Tech does make some sense. Solid football program with a decent basketball program, has a growing fan base, fits better geographically better than any other Texas School (outside of UTEP), and gives the Pac-10 a little slice of the market in Texas. If the Pac-10 takes any teams from the Big XII though, you can kiss goodbye any idea of a split Pac-10/Big XII network. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) Allie's videos look amazing. Bad feeling the Cubs will take him. I'd take Allie over any of the pitchers we're rumored to be interested in. Ain't that the truth. He's got a great arm.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) Harper was ejected from a game at the JUCO world series yesterday for arguing a strike call. Juco rules state that if a player is ejected twice during a season, he's suspended for two games. Since Harper was ejected earlier this year, he sits two games, and his juco career might be over. Thats a gay rule. The ump probably deserved it. -
Nats likely to take Harper with No. 1 pick
BearSox replied to Ozzie Ball's topic in The Diamond Club
If the Nats were smart, they'd draft Harper but have no intention of signing him. His bust factor is ridiculously high, IMO, and with the amount of money he wants, they might be better off waiting till next year, get their pick back (now, would they get the no. 1 or no. 2 pick next year?), and be able to pick the player they want. From what I've seen, heard, and read about Harper, he will become a MLB player, but I doubt he becomes a superstar. I forgot where I read the comparison, but Josh Hamilton is a really good comparison. I envision something similar to Hamilton's 08 for Harper except more K's, more power, less average, and more of a pull hitter. Kind of like if Ryan Howard and Josh Hamilton had a son. -
QUOTE (The Beast @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) Nope, I have sympathy for Joyce. I didn't for West, but Joyce just blew a call at the wrong time. It is the human element of the game that makes me love baseball, unlike football where you can get away with some bulls*** because of a replay. The day they start inserting instant replay in the MLB is the day that I want instant replay in little league, high school, college, and the minor leagues, or I will advocate for a system where there are no human umpires, and just a computer for the manager to beat the s*** out when he's either dead wrong or just being a f***ing son of a b****. Overturn the last out, and give Joyce props for admitting he had done something wrong, unlike that fat f*** West who just sat there and shot fighting words back at Buehrle and Guillen. So to open up a new can of worms, we can't hate the Cubs or their fans? Their stupid fans really have issues with any negative comment that I direct towards them this year, and it is becoming ridiculous. I don't give two s***s about teams other than the White Sox, and I certainly don't think that Joyce should be suspended for this, just because of the high profile nature of this call that he blew at the wrong time. I am the first to say that while I don't love baseball, I am an umpire. An IHSA patched official, and each day, I learn something new about the game. So I suggest that Hawk (screw you Hawk, I can't stand your b****ing during the broadcasts) and the rest of those morons who b**** about balks at the game maybe read what the rules are in baseball or put the pads on and umpire a game yourself. Seriesly. I love baseball and I hate umpires... but then again, 90% of people who have played at any level hate umpires, it's just the way it goes. Seriously, they made a movie about it called "Kill the Umpire." No offense to you, well, only when you put on that navy blue polo, lol.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) It's all about the TV viewership. Bringing the Texas markets, Oklahoma City, and Denver markets brings 20M+ extra potential viewers. It would likely be an East/West set. East: Texas Texas A&M Texas Tech Oklahoma Oklahoma State Colorado Arizona Arizona State West: Oregon Oregon State Washington Washington State California USC UCLA Stanford Yeah, not gonna happen. My guess is they invited the whole big 12 with hopes of at least Colorado accepting. Texas and Texas A&M are tied at the hip, and Texas loves it in the Big 12 so rule them out. I don't see either Okie schools leaving. So that leaves Texas Tech, and who knows, maybe. Its a prefect time if they wanted to switch conferences and it would help them to get out of the shadow of Texas and Texas A&M. -
I'm down with putting it in the record books as long as you mark it with an asterisk or something to clarify the situation.
-
I'd probably be more upset if it wasn't the 3rd perfect game in 3 weeks.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) Baseball is number one ...football follows in a very close second place ..i also just started getting into hockey ..i like watching them smack each other around!! lol ..BUT to sum it up, yes i do love football as well. I definitely spend my Sundays with the guys! I think I'm in love. Haha, but seriously, that's awesome. And the best part is you like the violence the most.
