Here's a comparison... how come when Don Imus called that women's basketball team "nappy headed hos", he got pretty much crucified... but when this Jeremiah Wright guy says much more offensive stuff, and whole lot more offensive stuff, people make excuses for him?

QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) you could also say the same for Thome, but I like to think he naturally just filled out his frame. http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/72478428.jp...40A659CEC4C8CB6

Frank Thomas (and Todd Helton) and Joe Kennedy
BearSox replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I always liked Kennedy, and its such a shame to see someone that young with such a great family die due to some illness. It's not like he was the idiot who was on the cardinals who was drunk out of his mind when he crashed his car and killed himself. -
I'm willing to bet the opening day lineup will be: 1. Ozuna, 2B 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Swisher, LF 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Thome, DH 6. Dye, RF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Crede, 3B 9. Ramirez, CF If it's a close ball game late in the game, and the Indians start going to their bullpen, like someone else stated isn't exactly filled with flamethrowers, we should then pull Ramirez and put Anderson out there. Anderson struggles with a lot of offspeed stuff still, but his D makes up for that.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) Well everything I've heard is Ramirez is a major league fastball hitter, but the offspeed stuff is going to kill him. Just look at how Grienke handled him. he definitely needs to work on hitting offspeed stuff, but that comes in time. But as long as he can hit the fastball, he's gotta chance.

Where The Corn Is As High As Greg Walker's Eye...
BearSox replied to knightni's topic in 2008 Season in Review
I could have sworn that I read this game would be aired on mlb.tv... oh well. -
Quentin is probably a better hitter vs. righties, so I like that.
-
From what I've seen of Ramirez, he's one of the better hitters we have, IMO. He has an excellent approach, a nice swing, and just knows how to hit. Anderson and Quentin should both get their playing time, but so should Ramirez. I have no problem with Ramirez playing CF in certain matchups. But you're right, Ramirez shouldn't be the outright starter.
-
I'm not saying 80% were Barry Bonds/Brady Anderson type juicers, but I wouldn't be surprised if about 80% had at one point experimented. That number might be high, but it is more then half.
-
I wouldn't be surprised, but in all reality, probably at least 80%, probably more, of ball players took steroids at one point or another.
-
I still think Fogg and Wells for Ritchie was beyond idiotic.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) Won't happen. He will demand far too much money but more than that too many years. Yeah probably... maybe Ollie Perez, but if he has another good season he might command a whole lot as well. Either way, we need to bring in another starter next year. Who knows, maybe Jon Garland....
-
Well, Ozuna's gotta be in the lineup since he hits C.C., and most lefties in general, well. And I'd rather have Ozuna in 2B then any other position. And there isn't any doubt in my mind that Ramirez is a better hitter then Anderson and maybe even Quentin. So, I'd have no problem with Ramirez in CF on opening day. I'm not saying Ramirez should be ahead of Anderson on the depth chart, but in this matchup vs. C.C., I like his odds better.
-
well, either way, we better make a serious play for Sabathia next offseason...

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:25 PM) I don't know why people say Jenks. Yes, he's the best listed of the bunch, but closers in general don't let you as much as you think. Look at the past 15 offseasons and I don't think you'll see that much of a coup for each closer. Position players usually net you more, but not the most. What nets teams the most is starting pitching. Even crappy starting pitching, as long as the guy could eat up innings, you'll see those players get the most in the trade. With that said, Javier Vazquez will net you the most IMHO. His peripherals are great (even when he does suck) and compared to the market today, he's signed at a very reasonable contract. do some research and look up what the Rangers got for Urbina a few years ago.

I voted Wasserman, but that spot should really go to D.J. Carrasco... from watching this spring, he's better then both of them.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) The Mets got the best pitcher in baseball during his prime, and didn't give up their number 1 prospect. The Twins got robbed. So far, the Bill Smith era has been unimpressive. The Twins won't be impressive for another 2 years at the least. They are in a rebuilding mode, and want to put out the best young team they can in 2010 when their new stadium opens up.
-
probably just a big bruise.
-
Garland pitched 5 solid innings yesterday... Now, was the upgrade of Cabrera over Iguchi/Richar (since Uribe will be starting) worth the downgrade from Garland to Contreras/Danks/Floyd?
-
I am almost positive that I, and other posters here, are better then Oney and are more deserving of a shot in spring training then he is...

QUOTE(Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) Did you see the bomb he hit the other day against the Royals? It was about a 94-96mph fastball on the inside corner at the knees and he killed it over the left field wall. I saw that one, but it wasn't near the inside corner. It was pretty much down the middle, but knee high.
-
I've noticed that Anderson has no clue how to hit the inside fastball.
-
we could get a s*** load for Jenks...

Official How Many Games Will the Sox Win Thread

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Their pitching staff sucks. I've talked about it 100 times, don't want to do it again, and yes, ours is better. For the upcomming season... Vazquez = Verlander Rogers Bonderman > Contrera Willis >= Danks Robertson >= Floyd So, to take into account their rotation is as good or even better then ours, plus they have the best offense in baseball, it's tough to see how they will win only 79, but we somehow win 90. Our only real advantage against them is our pen. Todd Jones is gonna get lit up.
