on that play with Erstad, there was pretty much no running involved. He looked up and the ball was gone.

Buehrle (0-0) vs. Verlander (0-0)- KEEP IT UP!!
BearSox replied to TitoMB345's topic in 2008 Season in Review
it's pure idiotic to have Uribe in there over Quentin. Quentin should be LF, Swisher in CF, and Ramirez at 2B... -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) hes gonna be throwing some important innings at the big league level at some point this season, so im glad hes off to a good start probably in place of Contreras...

hopefully we can somehow ditch Uribe by the time Richar is ready, and let Richar start at 2B for us. Also, I can't remember if I said it in this thread or not, but we should really consider sending Ramirez down to get everyday AB's and playing time at SS and calling up one of Rouse or Bourgeois who would be better suited for bench roles.

Would today be a good day to start Brian Anderson?

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Because it'd be nice to give an aging player who was banged up for much of last year a rest. But I didn't consider Thome's history against Verlander, so perhaps you have a point. Benching JD would be a bad idea now with the way that he's been hitting. Jesus Christ, it's 5 going on 6 games into the season. By the way you are talking, you'd think they haven't had a day off in 20 days. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Konerko has a career line of .150/.150/.150/.300 w/ 7 K, 0 BB and 3 singles vs Verlander. In other words; dreadful. With a contact pitcher in Buehrle on the mound, Konerko's early season struggles to go along with his historical s***iness vs Verlander you could maybe justify the move. One thing's for sure with Quentin in LF and Anderson in center the big boppers for Detroit would have a tough time finding the left centerfield gap. What, in 16 AB's? Wow, what a huge sample size! Paulie might be going through a bit of a funk right now, and hasn't had great success vs. Verlander, but you don't bench your big bopper vs. a team's ace... especially this early into the season. Plus, Verlander has a great fastball and PK is a fastball hitter. This is as bad as people who wanted Thome benched vs. Sabathia because he hasn't gotten a lot of hits vs. him in 11 AB's. Give me a freaking break... you know you can sometimes overmanage, and benching players like Thome and Konerko vs. a pitcher they haven't had great success in 10 some AB's would be a case of that. -

Anderson probably gets his first start tomorrow. -

QUOTE(shipps @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) Steve, I agree with everything except for Swish being above average in center. An above average CF would be able to take their eye off the ball and run to the spot and wait for the ball to get to them,Swish watches the ball the whole way through and that slows him down alot. I said the same thing when I saw Swisher keep his eye on a ball yesterday that was hit out to the warning track in CF. Like you said, a good CF, right after contact, puts their head down and runs to the spot, then looks up to find the ball and then catch it.
-
Swisher leaves a lot to be desired out there in CF, IMO, but he's a hell of a lot better then Owens at playing CF

QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Huh? Who the hell was worried about Buehrle? Obviously I meant Danks.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) Who should lead off if not Swisher? I didn't say he shouldn't lead off. I said I don't love him there... but he is our best option there. Perhaps from a deadline deal we could get a real leadoff hitter.
-
Tough to find anything wrong about today's game. You take Inge out of the Tigers lineup, and Floyd has a shut out. Hell, I feel Floyd was taken out too early, but I guess it's early in the season. Going into this season, most people were worried about Buehrle and Floyd. While I was worried about those two as well, I was mainly worried about Contreras and Buehrle. If Floyd and Danks can develop into a good 1-2 punch, I feel much better about this season... and the future. Jenks low velocity still scares me, but with his variety of pitches and usually good location, he should get by for the most part.

In the article I read on whitesox.com, it says Ozzie has no plan of changing the roster, unless of injury. So, I have some hope. I really like this lineup with Quentin in it as opposed to Anderson. I'd like it even more if Ramirez started at 2B, and if Fields was the 3B. I don't like Swisher as a leadoff hitter, but he has been taking walks like crazy, so that's good. However, if Ozzie and KW are going to stick with Uribe and play Quentin pretty much everyday, I'd rather see Ramirez down at Charlotte getting AB's everyday and working on hitting offspeed pitcher, and one of Bourgeois or Rouse called up to be the utility player.

Gavin "Pretty Boy" Floyd vs. D-Train, Going for three!

QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) Questions like #4 and #12 really get on my nerves. Why ask? What in the hell do you think black values are? What, some kind of radical, racist separatist rhetoric? Hey how bout somebody ask me why we used to sing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" after the national anthem in high school? Actually I think the author does think that which is why he'd ask a question like #10. All 14 of those questions are valid. I see nothing wrong with them. No one knows anything really about Obama. It'd be nice if he actually got some hardball questions instead of the usual crap he gets on shows like the view.

to think evolution did not exist is being stupid... but that takes away nothing from Religion. Most of the stories in the old testament are just that, stories. Stories which are used to convey a bigger message or point. Adam and Eve were likely not the first man and woman on earth. However, these Darwin fish are stupid, and anyone who would actually put these on their cars and what not are probably idiots as well.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 06:01 AM) Which would be Kevin Brown. He was kinda good that's quite the comparison, but I don't see Carmona having the type of career as Brown did. Most pitchers don't.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 06:51 AM) Crede has an OPS of .863 currently. If that's not doing well so far, I don't know what is for him offensively. ooh, a .863 ops in 17 ab's!!! Excuse me if that doesn't impress me.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 02:35 AM) If Fields can't hit minor league pitching ATM BearSox does he deserve to be in the majors? And he didn't almost call it quits, that was blown way out of proportion. Crede has done pretty well for us thus far. It depends on what his problem right now is. For all we know, we f***ed him up mentally by sending him down. Or, he is pissed and trying to crush everything. But I don't know since I can't see the game... But, I think he should have been the starting 3B from day one. Also, I wouldn't say Crede has done well so far either.

QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 02:19 AM) Kind of a Hispanic Jon Garland. except maybe without the Judy Garland break downs.
-
his only real plus pitch is his sinker. Everything else is meh... but if he can keep that sinker down and be able to attack hitters, he should continue to have success.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 12:53 AM) God, I hope we didnt ruin Josh by sending him down. I wouldn't be surprised if we did. This was a guy who wasn't the strongest mentally (he almost called it quits after his first taste of the big leagues). And then after KW says Fields would start and Crede would be traded earlier in the offseason, Kw sends Fields down and has Crede start. Also, Fields had a very good rookie season to build off of, and out preformed Crede in ST, yet he gets sent down.

I am higher on Gavin then most here... I'll say this, he can't do much worse then Contreras today.
